Good video. I trailered my XL down to farmer's field twixt Bampton & South Molton. Visited Dunkeswell and Eaglescot plus flying over my beloved Exmoor. I wish we had GoPros then.
I have very close to the same thing but mine was a luggage trailer for tour buses so, a solid metal box. This is my hanger/shed for the trike at home or away. When at fly-ins it has been suggested I make it a camping trailer too, I'm undecided about that.
It's really, really important to have trailer suspension properly designed for high volume low weight combo that is a trike. I've seen a brand new tr Ike killed by the buyer using a hire trailer that effectively offered no suspension to such a light load. Totally wrecked!
A good set up 👍 I built my 1st open trailer from scratch but I did not like having to neatly package up the wing to transport so I got a fully enclosed trailer. This will let me me fold the wing back but not have to roll it and bag it for transport. This is important to save time when you dont have a Hanger. I am hoping to rent a spot at the field this season and just keep the trailer there. Good luck on the test.
I'm guessing it was a really lone trailer? The big issue with leaving the wing connected is the stress on the trike. Theses wings do pack down really quickly.
Nice! A very well thought out system! We can move our 'full fat' flexwings around too - but a bit more faff - and the wings have to be packed away SO carefully - one wrong bit of padding/protection and voila, a hole worn into the wing, no flying, full wing strip, official repair, and several months of no flying! Likely why they are rarely moved around by road now other than through necessity! Also - the P&M trike must be transported with the pylon UP or the bouncing on the road can cause the receiving area to be pinched/pushed in by the rear wheel suspension - and then you have problems only a hydraulic ram can fix!!
I can fully understand, ask me again why I don't fly a bigger trike ;). There are pros and cons to both but the joy of the smaller machines is the simplicity and ease of moving.
@@GolfFoxtrot22I’m looking at 8 ‘ x 4’ flatbed trailer that I will build a box onto. Would 8’x5’ be better in your opinion? They are only 100 dollars more for me so if you think having that extra foot of width on yours (which I believe you said was 8’x5’) is worth it, I will go 8’ x 5’ on my purchase.
I think Paul would disagree on who is who...haha. Having the space to move around inside is fundamental to easy moving. The purpose-made one, that I had constructed, although it looked great, was a real pain to use.

Normally really like your videos Giles, but why have you not covered loading and unloading etc. This is really just a video showing a trailer and some promo stuff at the end. Don't like negative comments so please just take this as 'I'd like to see more detail' than it being negative. Really love your channel fella. But I'm used to your usual higher standards. I note you've been busy, but better to wait for good content than throw this out just to meet artificial deadlines. Hope the feedback helps not hinders. Still love the channel.
Hi Sherwood Ranger, when you say loading and unloading, what are you referring to? It did cross my mind but putting a trike inside a trailer and a wing on a ladder for the few seconds in video wouldn't really add anything. The joy of RU-vid is you still have to play the game and videos need to be greater than 8 minutes to gain certain levels of traction. I have more flying videos in the pipeline. Good timing for me, Giles. Great to see another vid from you. Just a quick question - did Phoenix supply the waterproof cover with the trailer, or was this a separate fitment/purchase?
Hi David, no, I just drop it down and put a little support in place of the front strut; about 3ft of 22mm conduit tubing with the same pins. The front strut has to be removed to fit the wing so it doesn't make that much difference if it's fitted or not. Just from my experience anyway. I hope it's given some ideas for you.
