This is actually a really awesome video that could lead to having a form of Game Makers/Icons on this channel. I would spend all summer watching that show and learning the history of the video game industry and the iconic people that shaped and created the landscape we have now. PLEASE BRING THAT SHOW OR SOMETHING LIKE IT BACK!

Excellent coverage of this long running series. Its legacy shaped the way games grew, evolved, and shifted within each generation. The original, even though limited, contained so much exploration. Getting lost is a given. But to find key items, new places to explore, and go beyond what any other platformer has done before. From its graphics, visual design, atmosphere, music, controls, and experience. Paved the way for more experimental titles. What a ride, then, and now. Hope Adam is doing okay. +Vibes to rest and recovery

Jirard nailed this segment. No brainer fill in for Sessler when he's not around or the subject isn't his style. Also can we get more game history segments for big anniversaries? I'm sure each of you has a game they could do 15 minutes on.

RIP Yokoi. Had no idea he played such a large role in Metroid's development. I just played Super Metroid for the first time a couple of weeks ago on SNES online and it immediately became my favorite game of that generation. I really hope Dread helps put not just Metroid, but this entire subgenre back in the foreground of gaming culture. Thanks Jirard!

@@knightofvirtue613 I did ultimately end up using a guide to finish the game before Dread came out, but for the first couple of days, I was wandering around and really felt that sense of dread and could only imagine what it would have been like if I had actually played it as a kid. Regardless of how people feel about the Metvania genre, it's unquestionably ahead of its time for creating a cinematic atmosphere in a video game.

Releasing an actual mainline sequel is still way more than Zelda gets for its 35th. Dread beats a Game & Watch and a remaster. Plus, I'd be afraid to see a bigger 35th celebration anyway, after the limited release approach the likes of Mario 35 and 3D All Stars took.

I remember picking up the original Metroid up on my B-Day. I was 7 at the time and didn't really understand the game play. Me and my bro kept at it and once we figured it out we were in awe of what Nintendo created. The game doesn't come with a map so we had to create our own on graph paper. This game was a truly ahead of its time.

Metroid Fusion has the biggest place in my heart. As my very first Metroid, I was enamored by the commercials for it and was stoked to finally figure out some backstory for my favorite smash character. The haunting sounds of that game paired with the pulse pounding terror of the SA-X makes it an experience I won't soon forget. I am so excited to play Metroid Dread, as it seems like a return to the pulse pounding terror that made me fall in love with the series.

This is a solid perspective. You aren't lying about Adam working hard either. I think G4 is ultimately the ideal seed to revolutionize gaming content creation. Don't be afraid to mix and marry ideas. Social media is great for keeping the conversation open, but ultimately by building bridges to seemingly unrelated niches you are building content. Adam knows on some level that the variety of people is fertility for that, but the uniting of ideas is how you sequence the unity required to reach that revolution. G4 has been really good about branching out so far and that speaks to tremendous strength in the entire team. Find your strengths and weaknesses from your own perspectives first while you keep searching for the consistency you desire. Be open and kind to each other while you weigh in on how to bridge those gold nugget ideas.

It may not be Nintendo's favored series, but it will *always* hold a special place in my heart. It was one of my first games, and the first me and my dad beat. We have a yellow sheet of notebook paper with our passwords on it. And as much as I loved Super Metroid, Fusion is my favorite. The tense atmosphere during the SA-X segments were some of my favorites, and the Fusion Suit was so cool to me. If they keep doing remakes, I hope they keep the team that did Samus Returns and Dread for Fusion. They seem like they were meant to be the ones to give Metroid the chance it was always destined to have.

Metroid might not be the fan favorite hit series like Mario and Zelda, but it’s legacy as one of Nintendo’s prestige franchises is evident by how much care goes into its games. Definitely hope Dread can break the mold and put Samus in the spotlight and ensure we avoid another decade of no new games.
