I would recommend you look up the troubles/conflict in northern Ireland. It makes up a huge part of this show. You wont be able to understand a lot of what this show is about otherwise

this episode showed a lot of contrasts and contradictions? I mean, first, the job of a journalist, or the bad things about journalists (just publish something, doesn't matter if it's true or not or how can we affect the other). 2nd how Erin's posture about Lesbian. She showed at 1st like she was really worried, but in fact she didn't care about the lesbian, but the story and the "fame" she might get for being the 1st one who step up for a minority. Meanwhile we see the students' pov, where they are having fun, but there was something horrible happening in their country. Joe and Gerry relationship. in those harsh moments, they stand together, even though they usually don't have a great relationship. It is said that the song Orla was dancing/ doing steps was "Like a prayer" from Madonna. That song was banned in its beginning (Catholicism), here was changed due to copyright? i think so. Erin's reaction is kinda harsh but you need to understand those times, the religion in Ireland and the little/none visibility of lesbians and gays. Also, we need to add how the media showed this minority. You can see that Erin showed this typical behaviour of reject. First it's hard to believe to Erin, then she assumes that Clare is telling her secret as a confession and then she showed how discusting is for her. James' reaction is understandable cause at 1st he was accused of being gay, so he "kinda understand" how Clare feels. Also, UK has another religion and, if im not wrong, they legalized equal marriage in the 90's. Even now we need to understand that not all the people support LBGTQPA+ but, at the same time, those who disagree with it, need to tolerate and let the other enjoy their rights as human beings. You can disagree but that doesn't mean you have to attack the minority or not let them live their Lifes as they want. to the older generation is a bit hard to understand, but we can't cancel them, we need to talk with them to show them that society changes and all human beings need to enjoy their rights. Even to some Y gen is hard or had a time where they reflect about their posture (they got more info), because in their fam didn't talk about that. Now Gen Z is more informed, so that's a good thing.
