Growing up in the 80s and 90s the side odf an irish coin with the animal was the head, and the side with the harp was tails. 5p had a pig, 10p had a salmon 20p had a horse and 50p had a bird. Irish pounds were called punts

Yes punts used to be the currency of the Republic of Ireland (before they switched to the Euro), whilst the North of Ireland used pounds as they're in the UK and that's why they have to worry about which currency they use as they cross the border. Whilst Ive never lived in Ireland, my family on my dad's side is Irish and all my siblings were born there so we still have a few punts because my mum kept a few when they moved back to England. (I'm basically James the skinny curly haired English guy with Irish family 😅)
