The spectacled bear, the most mysterious plantigrade on the planet, lives on the high plateaus of the Andes.
For the first time, a team of Ecuadorian researchers is attempting to understand South Americans last remaining bear species. Following the trail of two females and their cubs, the biologists uncovered the astonishing behaviour of a bear that does not inhibit, and whose agility allows it to evolve in the trees. Threatened, their range is shrinking due to the expansion of cultivation, while conflicts with farmers are becoming ever more frequent. To protect the spectacled bear, Andres Laguna and his assistant Danilo Vasquez are going to encourage the protection of the species by creating corridors and ecological areas, raising awareness among mountain populations and translocating animals that are too adventurous.
