They are learning from publicly available content that anyone can see, but since an AI is doing it, and not a human, it's somehow stealing now. People have a deranged sense of property entitlement regarding content. They think they own it like they own their toothbrush, but they don't. It's a granted, temporary, exclusive right to DISTRIBUTION. If you post it in plain sight for all to see, you don't have any reasonable expectation for people not to retain a copy of it. Rich people don't need AI to enslave(indentured servitude & criminalizing being poor) people, they are already doing it. Its the fundamental flaw of greed based systems. If greed is the driving force and rewards further greed than all other things will not be considered and you end up with greedy overlords controlling an enslaved public as the world as we know it is destroyed. The only thing technology does is speed the process it does not cause the process. The end result is the same even without technology. Only by changing to a non greed based system can the end result change.

It is very true. AI is only one problem amongst an unfathomable amount. The worst part is problems don't get solved and the consequences of things never get reversed. We've only patched things with solutions that sit on top of the damage already caused, we all just learn to live with it. The issue isn't whether AI / robots are able to do what nurses do. The issue is whether tech bros can get it _close enough_ that hospitals *think* it could do what nurses do. I'd bet most admin running hospitals don't know or have forgotten how much nurses have to be able to handle, and are even less likely to understand how AI is trained and its limitations.

AI has fixed my car multiple times. Correctly diagnosed the problem and gave me the directions to DIY the problem myself. Saved me a whole lot of money. ...and you do realize that AI have diagnosed some rare conditions accurately already that doctors could not figure out in specific patients. Their diagnosis was obviously run by those same doctors trying to solve the patients problem and they agreed with the AI diagnosis and helped the patient. 🤷🏿‍♂

I’ve seen people in computer science communities making the argument that “It’ll make more jobs!”. But a quick look back into history, technological advancements almost always creates less jobs. A simple example is cashiers at grocery stores. There are even restaurants testing out completely automated fast food joints - you don’t have to give a robot sick leave or paternity leave. ALSO, the amount of AI art that’s permeating the internet is just sorta sad.

That's not really just a theory anymore. I mean, half the videos pretending to cover the Ukraine war are AI-generated drivel, and anyone posting a video on TikTok instantly get 500 fake views and a bunch of fake comments to convince them to keep playing the game. And here in the YT comment section, a bot determines what humans can and can't say. Half of my comments are deleted. Not by a human, but by a bot. We're literally enslaved by the bots already.

No, it's a materialist, post-humanist reckoning with the fact that we don't have a magical soul creating thoughts or actions from nothing. We are rather just complex material processes which recognize patterns, combine them and mutate them. We are literally just a bunch of atoms obeying the laws of physics, yet we *feel* as if we are "making decisions", as if we are "coming up" with ideas.

Secondly, it doesn't even matter. The question is whether there is such a thing as true originality: Something from nothing. There isn't. Everything humans create is also just remixed recognized patterns.

AI has had 70 years at absolute maximum, and was created for the sole purpose of making mashed-up slop that could barely be considered art. Short answer, people don't run on binary. Yeah, we don't run on binary, and insect wings aren't made of metal, and yet, planes fly. Except, we do kind of "run on binary", if you subscribe to quantum field theory. Neurons are just nodes that are connected to other nodes and have a certain likelihood of firing upon getting a signal from a certain connection. That's exactly how "AI" neural networks work, and they can even account for fractional probabilities through the magic of floating point numbers! Even if an artificial neural network is non-sentient, the fact that it transforms its inputs in fundamentally the same way as a human brain does, makes it not outlandish to consider its output transformative, i.e. not plain "stolen". You could say sentience is a precondition for transformativity, though.
