The sound of the keyboard at the beginning of the video reminded me of Gino Vannelli's "Powerful People" album. He hails from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I believe you might enjoy it.

I bought a Rhodes in 1995 and then sold it to a saxophone player shortly thereafter. I regretted it after I started listening to Funk Jazz over the next few years. I looked for one for years to no avail. I finally prayed that God would let me find one! One day in 1999, I was driving from Arkansas to New Jersey and the traffic came to a sudden standstill in front of me. I decided to take a break, backed up a few hundred feet and got off the exit ramp to get fuel and eat. I stopped in a tiny music store and they had a pristine Rhodes from 1978 that still had the manual with it! I paid $500.00 for it, crammed it into my Toyota and drove away happy as the traffic was clearing up.

I’ve had a Fender Rhodes piano in my basement for many years that belonged to my late brother who died in a fire in 1983. Amazingly it survived the fire. It also survived Hurricane Sandy when my basement flooded. I had it recovered back in tihe 90s by a musician named James “Chops” Jones. I believe it’s 88 keys. I see that some museums have these pianos and my plan is to donate it to The Newark Museum.

Man, Ben Bove is a national treasure, I'm truly impressed by his knowledge, especially towards the end talking about the "E" model Rhodes, that's probably my favourite iteration of the Rhodes, such a creamy sound, but all the Rhodes in that living room are top notch, super wonderful. I can now graduate as a Rhodes scholar! 😄

Amazing! I only have 1 but what a Rhodes it is - I bought it from Eric Stewart of 10cc and was used on I'm Not in Love and was played by Stevie and Macca during the Tug of War sessions. I dreamt of playing it when I was a kid so cant quite believe I have it now. But this guy's collection - my God.

The fact that Anthony has given you praise through the series, taking you to all these great places to meeting great musicians, playing on some history enriched sexy keys, speaks volumes for the work you have put in and continue to. I can only imagine how you must feel. HUGE shout out to Anthony for being such a great and cool host and making your trip an amazing and memorable one !! Shout out to Ben for taking us into his Batcave !! Jeff Lober? Enough said 🙌🎹 Claudio, thank you for taking us on this crazy L.A. trip with you !! Inspired, Let's Go !! 🤙👊🙏

Thank you guys (yes, even Jeff) so much for this visit. It almost brought me to tears, mainly because my Mark II is sitting in storage because I don’t have enough space to keep it at home. But, seeing as how Anthony has proven that eating dinner at an actual table isn’t really all that necessary, I may have just been inspired to reconsider my decor. Enjoyed the info and stories very much, fellas. The monster chops were a nice extra.

I've got 2, 1969 Princeton Oxford 12"s out of a 69" Fender Rhodes. One of my childhood friends, hooked me up with them for practically free (he knew their worth but also, he knew that I would use them). Lovely speakers, great tone...I've got them wired up, as an ext cab for my guitar amp and in a way, that limits their output...can't be blowing $500 worth of speakers lol. I've never played a Rhodes piano though, I can only imagine that they are awesome!

Superb video into the history of the Rhodes. As a drummer of 52 years experience I've always liked the sound of these instruments - strangely always wanted to own one yet i can't play keys for toffee! No matter what the techno keys players say, you can never replicate the Rhodes sound exactly (or the Hammond through a Leslie for that matter) - it's mechanical sound of hammers hitting tines that's just amplified.

there is a fascinating connection between the Lincoln Continental and the Rhodes piano, specifically involving the Fender Rhodes electric piano. This connection revolves around the use of a key material: felt. Felt hammers are a crucial component in the mechanism of the Rhodes piano, used to strike the metal tines and produce its distinctive sound. The story goes that during the early production days of the Fender Rhodes pianos, Harold Rhodes needed a reliable and high-quality felt for the piano hammers. He found that the felt used in the trunk lining of the Lincoln Continental cars was of superior quality and perfectly suited for his pianos. As a result, this same type of felt was repurposed and used in the construction of Fender Rhodes piano hammers.
