The Pikmin being naturally inclined towards humming and singing makes me think that maybe they respond to whistles because they're just musical creatures. Like ants in the real world communicate with pheremones, the Pikmin communicate with singing. Olimar tried whistling and just happened to stumble into their method of communication
What I find interesting is Oachi and Moss' innate ability to whistle. I dont know if they where bread to have this ability or if they naturally have it for leading pikmin, but I would bet that the ancient sirehound lacks this ability. One thing I also find interesting is the way that in the pikmin universe space suits are just outfitted with whistles in general, have you ever wondered why? Like nobody knew about pikmin before coming to the planet, but there they are with whistles. It makes sense for the rescue corps, because they might need to guide oatchi, but why olimar, the copetites, and all the castaways etc?
@@Yipper64 Maybe it's how they communicate with each other as well? As a way to give commands and signals Or maybe it's something to not think too much about idk
fun fact: in pikmin 2 its learned that olimar has a very elegant and sophisticated taste in music (ballet, orchestras, ect.) and that in his spare time he teaches pikmin a synchronized dance and song.
I love that they sing while riding on Oatchi. Like they're riding the bus to work, or sailors on a ship enjoying their downtime before work. Very cute.
There's something really sad about losing aya no uta in the switch port. That was one of the first video game easter eggs I read about as a kid, & it was so cool to replicate.
Can confirm. It was while I was randomly walking around the 4th area where they started singing that and I thought to myself, "Huh, guess ol' Water Wraith stuck with'em harder than I thought."
I’m not sure the reproduction conditions but me and a friend both got the Pikmin to sing the Water Wraith song inside dungeons in Pikmin 4. I was in the giant yellow wollywog boss stage when it happened for me.
[Possible Spoilers] I had just finished grinding a 100 Purple Pikmin in Pikmin 4 by going back and forth through the last sublevel of a... specific cave with Mr. You-know-who, and ran around with them until the day ended since I had 100% the area. Imagine my shock when I heard an entire army of Purple Pikmin singing *that* song!
Same! But for years! Ever since my brother played this game on GC when it first came out, I've had this song pop up randomly in my head lol. I actually hum it sometimes, without thinking about it, even at work lol
2:03 for some reason this detail specifically is the one i feel the warmest towards. that area’s theme has always been my favorite pikmin song and hearing it come back like that just makes me so happy :)
also, when you stun the Groovy Long Legs, there seems to be a chance that the Pikmin will sing what I think is a segment of its boss music in celebration. I've only ever gotten it to happen once, so I could be wrong or it could be something else
To be honest, in Pikmin 4 they should have had the Pikmin sing either The Forest Navel or Forest of Hope from the first game, two very iconic tracks in my opinion
this is an extremely out there guess, but the last song might honestly be "Soil 3" from pikmin 2. there's little beeps throughout the song that match the first eight notes basically perfectly, and the ending chant kind of vaguely sounds like a different formation of beeps that appear later on in "Soil 3". it does kind of sound like a stretch but the first eight notes being almost identical is really making me think that's what it is
What a missed opportunity not to include the Totaka's Song easter egg. It actually was in Pikmin 2, which is the only one he worked on, but the Pikmin didn't sing it in that game either. It's like the perfect little tune for them!
They do infact sing a Dandori Battle theme The Dandori Battle song is often called "Leafy Showdown" by the community, which is also the name of the map that the song plays on. But the theme only plays during a Danori Battle that is very pivotal to the story.
There’s also one more for pikmin 4, there’s a chance the pikmin can him the water wraith chase music, I don’t know what the odds are but they do sing it rarely
Didn't know Pikmin could sing, and I'm glad I happened upon that easter egg on my own while playing Pikmin 4. They really cheered me up after I accidentally lost a few to a random enemy, as if saying it's gonna be alright
I could have sworn they sang the Luigi's mansion theme in 2, but no no, thats def the leitmotif. This Pikmin 4 release is really bringing back nostalgia. gunna have to get dolphin booted up one of these days.
The final song is from the latest Japanese Pikmin 4 ad on Twitter, RU-vid, etc! Perhaps it will be a part of some kind of DLC we shall see in the future…
I always liked the chants the pikmin sang in Pikmin 2's multiplayer. When one player is close to winning, their pikmin will start chanting and the chant is even different for each player.
The weird thing about the ice pikmin is that they have a higher pitched voice, yet when they sing it sounds like they are signing it in a normal pikmin voice
Since you are limited to 3 types in Pikmin 4, it would've been cool if the combination of 3 would determine which song they sing. i.e. Red Yellow Blue = Impact Site i.e. Yellow White Purple = Awakening Wood i.e. Blue Rock Winged = Garden of Hope i.e. Blue Purple White = Submerged Castle
1:49 What? I’ve had Pikmin singing without riding Oatchi before. I’ve also heard them singing a song other than the ones you mentioned. It’s a song from the Pikmin 4 OST that I remember hearing in-game but I don’t remember where. It sounds like a chase theme because it’s very frantic but it might’ve been from a certain boss, I don’t remember. (For reference, it sounds vaguely similar to the Smash Bros. “How to Play” theme but in a different key) SPOILERS FOR A CERTAIN CAVE IN THE BEACH AREA I’m pretty sure it’s the Water Wraith chase theme. (You hear it when you wait too long in the Engulfed Castle and the Water Wraith drops down.)
There's another hidden song in pikmin 4! if you have a squad of 100 white pikmin and ride oatchi for 10 uninterrupted seconds, they will sing the water wraith's chase theme from pikmin 2.
I believe the dandori battle song is specifically the theme of the last battle against Olimar, but I need to re-check! EDIT: hypothesis confirmed, it is 'leafy showdown', the last dandori battle against leafling Olimar!
That little 3 note song makes me laugh. When I watched my brothers play (I was too young to understand how to play) we always said it's them going "we're pikmin!" Over and over again
I saw a post somewhere on the internet. It was in the serene beach area of pikmin four and the pikmin were singing the water wraith theme! Not sure of the conditions though, pretty fitting since it’s in that area.
MINOR FINAL BOSS SPOILERS: I believe that the final song shown might be the jingle that plays when the final boss is vulnerable? it isn't a perfect match, but it does seem to follow a similar melody, especially the final phase vulnerability jingle.
I think the last song is meant to be a militaristic theme-like the Pikmin see themselves as marching to battle and are hyping themselves up, but I’m not sure.
the 5th song sounds like a part of the final trial to me i might be wrong, but it sounds like an instrument that comes in at around 30 seconds of the final trial song
There's another hidden song i found while in pikmin 4 idk what the conditions were put i had a group of wings in the first area after beating the game and all of a sudden they were singing the water wraith chase theme
I remmeber being told that if you had 70 red Pikmin in 2, they would sing the Luigi's Mansion theme. I waited for an entire in game day just to learn that it was fake and I still feel lied to
Until an actual source is found for that last song, I am choosing to believe it's the Rescue Corps jingle and the Pikmin picked it up from the player character
Something i realized, is when I was trying this out in pikmin 4, but in the engulfed castle, and they started singing the theme that played when the water wraith was chasing you.
When i first heard that fifth song in game i thought it was the final trial theme from the first game but going back to relisten it sounded different so not sure
I don’t have a clip of it, but when I was playing last night, I swear the Pikmin I had were singing the Submerged/Engulfed Castle theme. Not sure if anyone can corroborate with this, but it’d be good to know that I’m not crazy
cant we just take the unidentified pikmin song as "the song make for pikmin 4 and only pikmin 4" nintendo published a video a couple days after or before a Christmas short for the game: Humming with the pikmin. a great song btw
my pikmin started singing the water wreath song after i finished that dungeon. has anyone else had that happen? they were all blue pikmin and i was just running around after finishing that section
