A quick update regarding the final part of the video - the lynel attack we mentioned near the end was only the SECOND highest form of damage in the game - the first being a gold lynels massive explosion that deals 216 damage!! (210 normal, 6 flame damage) With max defense (112) this means that the player will still take 104 damage upon a blow, or 26 hearts!!! Sorry for forgetting to include this, but now you all know the top 2 highest forms of damage in the game!! Thanks for watching though, feel free to like and sub if you haven't already to support the channel, and check out my other Stats of the Wild videos in the playlist linked below!! 😄 ru-vid.com/group/PLAjULYyNSE9aa7aQW31IupW685MO-ZBHc
So basically, the flame breaker armor is better at resisting guardian lasers than the armor that straight up says it helps resist against guardian lasers?
Me: Hey Daruk, instead of blocking those 3 pebbles that guy threw that deal less than a heart, could you block that Crusher that rivals Ganon's power Daruk: No can do little buddy, those rocks could give you amnesia again
One thing that would be interesting to see in BOTW2 is enemies wearing armor. Enemies can already use weapons, it would be cool to see early game enemies with makeshift bone helmets and enemies later with full sets of armor. Maybe they could add a few sets that rarely drop from the enemies wearing them as the only way to obtain them
Honestly a bad idea if you think about it the way Bokoblin hp works is already fine and to do what your suggesting they would have to completely change how armour works to make it fun
Yep Croton helped me understand this (kinda) confusing math better than school does with showing a demonstration of the dmg and having it also be worked out (with this vid.)
This is such an awesome video (Especially for a math nerd like myself) I never realized just how many different modifiers or adjustments affect everything in Breath of the Wild. Keep it up Croton, and I hope you do this for Breath of the Wild 2.
I,ve actually discovered an even more damaging attack than a Gold Lynel with a 108 Savage Lynel Crusher (besides fall damage). It is still the Gold Lynel, but regardless of the damage of the weapon they have equiped, their explosive attack that has a massive AOE and it's commonly used to start the battle does 214 total damage (by my calculation).
Perfect timing for me to watch during my lunch break! Thanks Croton your videos are always great no matter what it’s about! Can’t wait to see you on stream next! Woah, my throat is soar from all that yelling about how great you are...
They even bypass things like Mipha's Grace and fairies, so I'm pretty sure they just ignore the damage system entirely and are hardcoded to always instantly kill you.
I didn't know weapon boosts were applied to the monster carrying it You could, in theory, calculate the boost based on how hard the enemy hits, which is SO COOL
Loving the vids Croton, I utilise these facts every time I play. Shield surfing? I want it to rain. Enemy with a weapon I want? I use a shield with a higher number than the weapon. Thanks for the videos dude, and I'm looking forward to your BOTW 2 content!
just to add on, the highest damage an enemy can do is the explosion gold lynel make, which gives 216 damage. if u wear 88 armor point with lvl3 defense buff at maxed health(30 hearts), u will take the explosion with 4 heart left
Great video ! I really respect the time and effort put into this to gather all of this data. I won't take much of it in but hopefully remember bits on my next playthrough...
1:01 Man I have a hard time focusing cuz I hear one of my most favourite type of nostalgia music, music from spirit tracks (I know it could be in also another game but this is where the nostalgia is for me). I love music from Spirit Tracks and I often put on the soundtrack. It's really good.
Wow. This was incredibly helpful! I'm surprised the system is so simple. From a game design perspective it's really cool seeing how that system scales so well.
I would recommend instead of wearing the soldier's helm for defense, wearing the amber and diamond earrings. They look a lot nicer AND the diamond circlet provides a bit of ancient proficiency.
@@Agent-Ig As someone who has maxed out both the Amber Earrings & Diamond Circlet I can safely say you did not. Both the Amber Earrings & Diamond Circlet have a maximum defense value of 28, making them both viable options for pairing with the Champion's Tunic & Soldier or Ancient Greaves.
A question that still lingers in my mind, how does the actual ragdoll dmg work compared to "straight" fall damage? The damage ticks sometimes seem really random on relatively even slopes for example. Sometimes you can slide half a mountain without damage, other times every second seems to do 1 HP dmg. Is the "10x Link height" a static number or did you mean that if you were to fall while horizontal (due to ragdoll/glitch) you will reach that 10x Link size sooner? Asking for a friend who is definitely not me who almost lost an almost complete no death run due to a bad bomb placement followed by a trip down a mountain
Lol, at the beginning of my Master Mode journey, I had like 8 hearts and fought a Lynel at Polymus Mountain WITHOUT NO DAMAGE!! And then, I took a picture of my glorious victory next to the Lynel and gave it to a NPC Zora to complete the “Savage Lynel” side mission. It’s interesting that the NPC had a accurate reaction.
Eyoo. I love the fact that you still make zelda content and explaining things we never though about. I got the game 2 months ago and really find these helpful. Keep going.(i'd like to see more advanced tips and tricks)
Just checked HMK's 5th dimension podcast, and i wanted to tell you how much of a man of taste you are, needless to say that my top 2 Zelda games are also Breath of the Wild and Skyward Sword. Anyway, great video as always, we always learn interesting stuff. Keep up the good work :D
It's like Fire Emblem Gaiden/Shadows of Valentia, in that game, characters and enemies have direct defense to counter the base damage (which that's how I recall it works), so if the defense is higher than the damage, enemies/units take 1 HP
@@emeralddragon5115 those would be difficult workarounds, but to be honest bullet time is op, so maybe it’s just regular speed with quick drawback. For flurry rush, the slow-mo isnt really necessary, and could be op for pvp since your opponent cant do anything. So either it’s just normal speed but your opponent is frozen, or it’s removed entirely.
Didn't know there was so much behind all this, thank you. I'm currently playing Master Mode, sad thing is, in this mode you're forced to wear Majora's Mask most of the time otherwise you'd get attacked every 2 minutes.
"You're forced" to do nothing of the sort. Shock arrows and blizzard rods are nice and busted and easy enough to get ahold of. There is a blizzard rod near the Namika Ozz shrine (which is north of wetland stable). The quickest shock arrows you can just buy is probably korok forest. Fun fact, the shock arrows still create an aoe when hitting a frozen enemy.
Also can you explain why the master Cycle can’t go into the desert area of breath of the wild because I am not sure why it won’t let me spawn it in when I am in the desert area
I know that I aint croton. But I think that as long as the hit is an icy attack like a frost blade or a frost chuchu i think it'll do like double that damage since the critical attack sound. uh. sounds when you get hit with an icy attack while frozen. It also works visa versa so that's cool
I was wondering why sometimes when I ate a lynel charge/swipe my hp went all the way down to a quarter heart. I thought no way it could be coincidence that I keep living with a quarter heart and assumed it was some sort of anti one shot or damage cap. Glad that this confirmed my suspicion.
I'm honestly surprised by how linear the damage calculations are in this game. Usually games with attack and defense stats have some complex formulas in the background to fine-tune and balance damage amounts, so I thought an open world game like this where the gear you'll have at any point can vary so widely would at least have some sort of curve to its formula... very interesting
I guess he "Formula" was already placed, a simple one, but placed, then they just tinkered whit the individual damage values, tend made spawns and rules for which weapons can or cant spawn with which monters?
I really love all this technical stuff, and numbers concerning armor sets, elemental damage, etc. I still say my favorite sets in the game are my Normal Daytime Wear...Heros Tunic, Black Hylian Hood, and Dark Link pants, or Phantom Armor pants for a touch of attack. I also love the Radiant Set, especially if I get a buffed bone weapon, plus it looks so cool, and The Fierce Deity Link set. I have all of the before mentioned maxed out. I'm also starting to like the Soldier's Armor a lot. I really think they should have given that one a Defense Buff at level 2 since I can't see anything else that tops it Defense wise anyway. Maybe it's a secret buff or something. The Barbarian set is good too. I don't really use any of the Elemental sets too often unless I need them.
Actually, elemental damage can also bypass one-shot protection, probably since it's calculated in two separate parts. This includes the explosion damage from Guardians, so they can still easily one-shot you even in Normal Mode.
Me with my fully upgraded Diamond circlet, Champions tunic, and Hero’s pants when a moblin hits me: Tis but a scratch! (Currently working on ruby and sapphire circlets, snow quill and voe tunics, and snow and sand boots, as well as zora, stealth and climbing sets. Eventually finishing with ancient greaves, all in order to prepare for whenever I get the dlc. )
