Your videos rock Croton, thanks bud I really was curious about these stats FOREVER I'm so happy you did the work for me! Thanks! And a happy St. Patrick's Day my friend as well!
I have some cool news, man - a couple of days ago, I upgraded a MESS-LOAD of armor. Including a few full, essential sets that would be good for some of the side story-lines. Some of it at level 2 , 3 or 4.
Also I have info if you need help on building a video about the durability up, quick shot, crit+, etc. blue or gold versions in the game. (If your gonna make that video that is lol) I posted a comment with info but it's on a google drive on a very small spreadsheet that lists every weapon. Orcz site also has a good list for just durability quick, checking stats, and damage stats for every weapon in game.
Can't believe its 2020 and people still play this game, I Can't believe its 2020 and I still don't have this game, alas by the time I can afford it everyone else will be on BOTW 2.
You forgot one thing. Staying in the shadows in the desert counts as a heat resistance buff. So using magnesis to carry a large crate to create shade is a valid but inefficient method
Next up, I think you should cover the weapon modifiers that have a chance of being on gear, such as "Durability Up/Up +, Critical Hit, Quick Shot (etc.)"
Something you missed: The 'charge attack stamina up' set bonus of the royal guard set does not only ruduces your stamina usage of charged weapon attacks, but also the stamina, used to jump while climbing and the boost when you are swimming. :)
15:41 except the Lynel on ploymus mountain, even with max stealth level, the Lynel can still detect you even when NOT sprinting, extremely sensitive to sound (even when you crouch and tilt the stick far enough). Other Lynels can only hear you if you are sprinting with this stealth. That lynel is programmed differently than all other lynels in other locations (even if them are red-maned), during gameplay, I noticed other differences: -Touching the lynel from the back does not immediately cause the lynel to know your presence, he has to face at you in order to know that. All other lynels however will immediately detect you -He does not roar while they roam their territory, other Lynels roar periodically as they wander their territory. -Without any disguise mask (wearing a Lynel mask or Majora's mask), this lynel, upon spotting you will immediately start attacking, all other Lynels will stare you down for 30 seconds before attack anyways. There is an obvious reason for this: so that the player MUST be stealthy if they don't want to fight the lynel and obtain the shock arrows, 30 seconds is way too lenient time for the player to get as many as they can.
Pipe Dream stupid programming or simply designed for an easy-start-the fight. Remember that the ploymus moutain lynel is likely the first lynel the player ecounters. I tested (and died) it a bunch of times.
You should make a playlist on your channel called something like "everything you need to know about botw but don't" so that people can find these great videos in one handy place!!
Ahh, that would be a good idea!! I plan on making a lot more videos like this, so that works!! 😄 Edit: ru-vid.com/group/PLAjULYyNSE9aa7aQW31IupW685MO-ZBHc
safrica Quite surprising really, considering BotW is a single player game that’s 3 years old. Maybe it isn’t really surprising when considering games like GTA V and Minecraft have existed for longer and they’re still relevant.
@@DLBBALL exactly, the best games are always interesting to learn about, I've only ever watched by little brother play botw and I still love everything about it!
If you feel like mocking a guardian or having revenge, break it’s legs and bring a bunch of branches. Weapon breakage is a guaranteed crit, not just throwing so a bunch of branches stun locks them while you beat up ancient technology with a stick
I can only imagine the Metal Block it went over was somehow jutting out a bit (thus no longer flush with the floor), so they probably ramped off it. Mind you, maybe it was actually just a bunch of tiny details combined with the block that caused it (such as the angle it ran over the block, the timing of its charge, and frame rate).
The defense buff and the diamond circlet helped me because I never knew that, I knew all the other stuff besides the bone attack up was 80%, but I think That’s because I play botw too much
Congrats on the subs! I have seen a metric ton of zelda videos. There is one thing I have never seen you might have fun researching. The rag doll physics link endures. What is the trigger point for it, like how much damage/ what type will cause you to rag doll and when you do, under what conditions will you continue rolling down a hill. Like.. how steep, that sort of thing. No one's done that yet to my knowledge!
That would be really interesting, and if you are going to do that. Should probably also include the conditions for taking damage from the ragdolling and wether or not it can be rduced. Like, you get ragdolled down a hill or something, and take some damage but getting ragdolled down a different hill wouldn't cause you to take damage.
Last night I did another several hours of research to calculate all enemy constants for the four main enemies. I was hoping that there would be a pattern between the constant and the color of the enemy, but of course not. Oh well... Here’s the formula again: Damage=4(hearts lost)+(defense-enemy constant) And here’s a table with all the enemy constants: Bokoblin Moblin Lizalfos Lynel Basic 0 2 4 15 Blue 4 10 8 20 Black 8 20 16 26 Silver 24 24 20 30 Golden 48 48 40 60 Here’s another example: Link goes up against a blue lizalfos wearing 9 defense. He gets hit and loses 4.5 hearts. Damage=4(4.5)+(9-8) Damage=18+1 Damage=19 Yay math! I hope this chart is helpful and if anyone needs it, you can take a picture of it and use it for yourself! Thanks for your time (again) Croton! ❤️ Keep up the great work!
Wow, that's some great research right there!! Understanding the base attacks of enemies is EXTREMELY helpful in order to prepare yourself for fights in this game!! I have a lot of the enemy stats recorded myself, and there are actually some other attacks they can do which alter the damage!! Lynel charge attacks, for an example, do WAY more damage then their base (can sometimes even exceed the damage they do with their weapons), and there's even seperate stats for things like their elemental attacks as well!! (When talking about the Lizalfoses!!)
I remember being surprised when I got hit by the first silver bokoblin I met. Look at this damage curve ! The power of bokoblins suddenly triples and become higher than lizalfos equivalent !
The damage that I’m referring to is the damage output of the enemy’s weapon, not the damage that link necessarily receives. Also, if links defense is lower than the enemy constant, the enemy’s weapon will do more damage to link than it would if link were to use it on an enemy.
Actually, the river at dueling peaks has about 10 armored carp, just jump in upstream and the fish are essentially swimming in place due to the current. 5 of those give 10 hearts and lv3 def. thats better than iron shrooms.
Great job on the video! It's so great seeing you blowing up knowing that you put so much effort into your content! Us botw fans are really grateful for acquiring this knowledge because we've put hundreds of hour's into this amazing game! One day your gonna be one of the greats! Just you wait 😁😁
Aww, thank you so much!! Im thrilled that you say that, because I really do enjoy making content like this - and I cant wait to see where everything goes from here as well!! 😊
Great video! Just wanted to share a couple of things you missed. Majora's Mask works like all the masks that Kilton sells in one. Bokonlins, Moblins, Lizalfos, and all their Stal equivalents won't attack you unless provoked. You'll also delay a Lynel attack by about 30 seconds. The Royal Guard's set give you more stamina while doing a charged attack, dashing while swimming, and jumping while climbing. The diamond circlet isn't the only one with the mini-ancient proficiency buff. The ruby circlet, sapphire circlet, and Midna's Helm all give the same boost. The amber and topaz earrings might also have the effect, but I can't remember off-hand.
Ahh, someone in the comments just told me about the Royal Guards one a minute ago...which is super interesting!! I didn't include the masks because they technically aren't buffs...but that's ALSO really interesting about the circlets!! I knew about midnas helmet (despite not mentioning it) but I never even bothered to try those!! Thanks for filling me in!! 😄
@@cloudycanine9682 Amber doesn't give (non-hidden) buffs, but has the same defense as the Soldier/Guardian/Wild set (that is, 28 at 4 star), Opal gives Swim Speed Up, Topaz gives Shock Resistance and is the only upgradable armor piece with defense in between the Stealth set and standard armor (18 at 4 star), Ruby gives Heat Resistance, Sapphire gives Cold Resistance, and Diamond gives Guardian Resist and 28 defense at 4 star.
I’ve done my share of research for the game too. I decided to write mathematical formulas to determine the amount of damage and enemy’s’ weapon does without having to kill it (I only did it for the golden ones though). Each one of the four basic enemies (bokoblins, moblins, lizalfos, and lynels) has a constant value that subtracts from link’s defense. If link’s defense is higher than the constant, the enemy will deal less damage than the damage of its weapon and vice versa. Here’s the general formula for enemy weapon damage: 4(hearts lost with one hit)+(link’s defense-constant) Here’s a list of the golden enemy constants: Bokoblin/Moblin: 48 Lizalfos: 40 Lynel: 60 Here’s an scenario showing how to plug everything in: Link goes up against a lynel wearing armor with 48 defense. Link then gets hit once and loses 23.75 hearts. Now he can calculate the damage of the weapon without needing to kill the lynel first! Damage=4(23.75)+(48-60) Damage=95-12 Damage=83 Wow! That was a lot of words! I hope this makes sense to you and maybe you can do a video talking about the damage of other types of enemies! Thanks for reading this ❤️
Ooh, now that's the spirit!! I used to love trying to figure out enemy damages/weapon types as well, and this is a good way of going about it!! I'm definitely thinking about making a stats video about enemies and weapons sometime down the road, so I'll have a lot to include!! Thanks for sharing!! :)
The drillshaft is another interesting weapon with a hidden and unique attribute- it's great against rocks and rock type enemies. You can break apart ores with one strike, and one hit kill peblitts, and it's really good against any Talus.
I actually had no idea about the island shirt increasing raft speed when using korok leaf... mostly because as you said it's a hidden stat and to the best of my knowledge in no way, shape, or form ever hinted at.
Yeah this game’s equipment is so weird. Why would Nintendo add a secret buff to random items and never tell anyone about it? Apparently the charge attack stamina buff, at least from the royal guard set, also affects climbing jump stamina and swimming dash stamina, which was completely unknown to me. There just doesn’t seem to be a point to giving a player a buff without telling them that it exists
@@mcswashbuckler3833 The entire game is all about freedom of exploration and discovery. So you also have the freedom to discover some secrets within equipment on your own through trial and error.
kulitmed the game is about exploration and discovery, but the game tells the player when they have a buff, but only some of the buffs that are applied. At least in my opinion, it doesn’t encourage the player to experiment with the armor, but discourages them from looking deeper because there’s no real reason to think the game would deliberately withhold information. Giving the player freedom is fine, but picking and choosing which buffs the player sees and which they don’t see feels unnecessary and unintuitive. The game does really well to encourage logical thinking with its shrine and korok seed puzzles, but doubles back on itself when it comes to the inventory screen. I love secrets to find in games, but when they’re so obscure and can’t be found by any process other than extensive testing or data mining, it becomes a chore to discover them TL;DR Hiding secrets in games can be fun, but Breath of the Wild’s picking and choosing of which buffs to tell the player about makes finding the hidden buffs a chore and discourages the player from searching for more secrets
"The blue garb of the hero who controlled the wind and traveled the ocean is where the Menoat River was Born" ---Misko's EX Journal 2 The stat is in fact hidden but it is hinted that there is more to the garb. ---Me playing BotW finding the clues just now :)
@@mcswashbuckler3833 I agree that there should be some form of consistency. But for me I will take it as a positive. The game does hint at this secret buff via clue in Misko's Journal "The blue garb of the hero who controlled the wind and traveled the ocean is where the Menoat River was Born" So in a way, this tells us and teaches us that there are hidden stats that may or may not be existing in equipment etc. Either way, I understand where you are coming from. A part of me agrees anyway :)
Fun FACT: The royal guard's armor actually decreases stamina uses for just about everything, to the point where dashing while swimming is more efficient and uses less stamina than just swimming, climbing uses almost as much stamina as leaping while climbing, and so on. Unless I'm wrong, I believe it actually uses less stamina while sprinting, too
*Question about something that’s confusing me regarding the defense that armor gives you:* You said that the game calculates how much hearts you lose based on the enemy damage output and the armor you’re wearing, now what if i was wearing a set of armor (let’s say the barbarian set) that was maxed out to 20 armor points a piece, so if i was wearing the full barbarian set that would give me 60, and the silver bokobs damage output 24-60=-36....-36/4 is -9, meaning that if I should wear the maxed out barbarian set then technically no damage is supposed to be dealt to me, and that is impossible because obviously damage is done to me after i get hit, and that’s what’s confusing me; how does the game calculate this? Also your video was very helpful thank you as always for the amazing content ☺️
Aww, thank you so much!! The simple answer to your question, is that there is a minimum damage cap of one to any physical attack done to the player!! So even if your armor level is greater then the damage output, you'll still take a quarter heart!!
I think there's also a mechanic that reduces damage from an attack to spare the player with a quarter heart in certain situations because it was surprisingly rare to get one-shot in a three-heart run.
Great video! I do have a quick question. The "Desert Voe" armor set gives a "shock resistance" set bonus when all pieces are upgraded twice. How does this compare to shock resistance from an elixir or rubber armor piece (lv1, lv2, something in between, etc.)?
I saw this video and your other video on shields and enjoyed them. Another thing that would be cool to do a video on which would be kinda the same idea as this is on cooking. With cooking there's critical cooking, and certain times of the day where you have more luck with getting critical. A bunch of stuff about food people might not understand so it might be a cool idea.
@@Croton If you do end up looking into it there's lots of info on the wiki page about the technical side of things too. Here's the link to the site if you end up needing it. zelda.gamepedia.com/Cooking
Amazing video. You've got yourself a subscriber. It is really amazing to see that you were surprised and happy to see your subscribers reach to 10k. Now just three months after that, it's 30k. So many many congratulations. This is the first video I've seen of yours and instantly subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work mate. May you reach a million subscribers soon.
You get an A and a STAR 🌟 for effort! I've recently started BOTW and the RU-vid content I've been watching have mostly been made 3 years ago. It's refreshing to see such VALUABLE content still coming out! Goes to show how complex the game can be. And how it can be enjoyed even years after its release. Great video 👍
16:07 The royal guard's set also has hidden stats. It only says charge attack stamina up, however, it also has a swimming dash and climbing jump stamina saving affect applied to it. That's why I always go for it right at the start of every new file.
Ok, that was really helpful, but what happens if you have an armor stat of 20 and the enemy has an attack output of 3, for example? Does it just take 1 hp?
Did you know that the charge ark stamina up buff also considered jumping while climbing and dashing while swimming to be considered charge attacks, making for a much faster climbing experience effectively doubling your stamina
i would love if you covered all the stats and everything in this game, for some reason no ones really done it before and all the wikis i visit lack tons of info, itd be great if we could all know whats truely better and know all the hidden values without going into obscure google docs so what i mean is i prefer the videos and i love them so much but we really need a text based form of all this research to reference
The climbing does make a difference on how far you go: once, i was at death mountain and i 100% couldnt make the climb, next i put the armor on and, what do ya know? I made it

Really nice episode, before this i thought that the strength buff was better than the ancient proficiency buff and bone attack up buff, but this episode made me realise that that wasn't the case. Also the defence buffs really did make me realise that its better to use gear with guardian resistance buffs against ancient foes than normal gear.
Another great video, thanks for all your research! I haven't played this game in sooo long, but it's always a pleasure watching gameplay and figuring out things I've been wondering about for literally years :)
Quick Reference Buffs only have three tiers Speed Buffs: don't stack 4:24 Speed 4:34 Climbing 4:45 Swimming - reduces stamina need Attack Buffs: food + Armour don't stack 7:18 Attack bone and ancient attack stack first with plus 80% head shot does 2x. hitting frozen enemies does 3x. sneak strikes do 8x Defense: 1/4 heart = 1hp enemy weapon damage - armor number = hp damage 11:04 armor number for buffs *open flame counts as level 2 cold resistance including torches.
This is a great and super informative video. I was wondering about this and was a bit confused as to why so few people were asking questions about it and why almost no popular videos described these interaction changes. I did have one question though... at 10:28 you show an example of a monster’s damage on Link being directly related to how much armour you have on. So if a monster did say 20 damage per hit, and you had 20 or more defense on your armour, would you then take 0 damage from this monster? That seems wrong to me but I can’t be sure as I’m not far enough into the game to tell. Anyways this video was extremely helpful, any more in-depth video about the micro interactions in the game and how they change would be greatly appreciated!
Really interesting and so cool to know! Knowing things like these after three years of being released makes me understand a bit more the hard job the devs had for this game. And how brilliant they are.
The Xenoblade Chronicles' set has a lvl 3 buff while swimming, but also has an entire set bonus that is also a buff Then this is the only one lvl 4 buff or something? And, how much that increases?
Probably should've been more specific on the temperature resistances. Holding a weapon doesn't technically act as a level one buff, it kind does the same thing in the opposite way, it affects the surroundings and makes a level 2 danger area into a level 1. I say this only because you missed that Shade in hot areas (not fiery) can also act the same as a campfire, reducing the surrounding temperature by a level or two. Shade is hard to come by in the Gerudo Desert, but it does still work
I said it "acts the same as a buff" - because it's by far the simplest way to understand it. And yes, I did forget about the shade now that you mention it 😅
🧐 so then you can eat a attack up 3 and wear the snowquill outfit in the tabantha tundra when lynel hunting. And you’ll do the same amount of damage when wearing all 3 barbarian armour? 🤷♂️
@@Omnicharlizard Lol actually, it does. The buffs that are active are exactly as the game shows them, meaning they don't stack. There is a reason the game still only shows an x3 Attack buff when you try to stack them. My point is to just go by what the menu shows and you'll know what you can and can't do. That's just how this game happens to work aka no stacking.
a relatively obvious one that wasnt entirely explained is disguise. with only one exception, disguise prevents enemies of the corresponding type from attacking first. if you attack the enemy or any nearby enemy, the disguise breaks, but you do get a few "how dare you trick me" frames on any enemy with full health. enemy damage stun overrides the animation. The exception: Lynels are the smartest non boss enemy in the game, and the mask specifically designed for them only has a short window of undetected. Given enough time, the lynels will catch on and start a fight, but it does give you a safety window so you are not blind sided. You could say disguise has levels that are secret to the player, with the lynel mask only providing level 2, and all other masks providing selective level 3. Majora's mask is unique as it has rainbow level 3, allowing even the enemies that dont have a mask to remain peaceful, and also acting as the only mask in the game to provide enough fear for lynels to not make the first attack. I have not tested MM on the field bosses, but most of them require player aggravation to start anyway. GUARDIANS ARE MACHINES AND CANT BE FOOLED BY ANY DISGUISE! there, cant say i didnt warn you.
Arrows, yes!! Throwing...honestly I can't remember off the top of my head, but I can get back to you on that!! I just know that it DOESNT work with the sword beams
No one could ever confirm to me that Marin didn't mess up her original wish and that her real wish would have been to go back with Link. Not to mention the implication that it may have been more than just a dream. Because if it was just a dream then how did she become a seagull? Making the implication that the word dream is linguistic slack fill for: being made of the magic of the wind fish sleeping. So the wind fish lied to you trick you into doing a genocide. Plus we have the double slit experiment plot hole effect where in 1 ending she dies and in the other she becomes a seagull and said she was going to sing for the whole world. Okay? Then where's her song?! No where in cannon does her song ever play again implying that the "real" ending is that she just died! I NEED PROOF PROOF SHE IS OK!
Can you make a video explaining how buy and sell prices work, what determines how many Rupees food and elixirs sell for, when do shops restock, and how traveling merchants work?
fun fact if you have no zora armor swimming naked is slightly faster than normal fun fact 2 buffs you ate before going into the trial of the sword go into it. fun fact 3 elemental weapons dont just one hit ice/fire they also cool/heat you up respectively but they dont make you too cold or too hot in mid tempurature areas fun fact 4 wearing zant/thunder helm with champions tunic + soldiers greaves or ancient greaves(ancient proficiency with it on) gives 3 more defence than full set of rubber or snowquill respectively you still take cold damage but with a flame sword you can survive in level 1 areas fine fun fact 5 freeze something then do shock damage to it it does good combo. fun fact 6 the ancient shield automatically reflects powerful guardian lasers but did you know the tiny lasers are reflected on the guardian shields here is one more hidden armor effect: Tingle's clothes startle NPCs and another thingy Staying in the shadows in the desert counts as a heat resistance buff. So using magnesis to carry a large crate to create shade is a valid but inefficient method The 'charge attack stamina up' set bonus of the royal guard set does not only ruduces your stamina usage of charged weapon attacks, but also the stamina, used to jump while climbing and the boost when you are swimming. :) Majora's Mask works like all the masks that Kilton sells in one. Bokonlins, Moblins, Lizalfos, and all their Stal equivalents won't attack you unless provoked. You'll also delay a Lynel attack by about 30 seconds combine this with the stealth set to not be bothered as much. The diamond circlet isn't the only one with the mini-ancient proficiency buff. The ruby circlet, sapphire circlet, and Midna's Helm all give the same boost. The amber and topaz earrings might also have the effect, but I can't remember off-hand. if you want food head to satori mountain and look at crotons video on it and some of the comments too. ravios hat lets you move sideways faster as it says i wonder if it has any other uses also i wonder if anything protects against explosions temporary hearts and stamina stay (yellow) and feed your horse the endura carrots
Since the haste buff also boosts climbing and swimming speed, does it stack with either of those other buffs if u get climbing/swimming from gear and haste from food?
