Hahahaha, as a newly wed in 1989 I went to work one day and accidentally left the front door open. Lady across the road rang the police telling her that our front door was open and could they come and make sure everything was ok. When I got home there was a business card from the local police station asking us to call. They told me that they had attended / entered our property and that as it was such a mess they thought there had been a burglary, could I tell if anything was missing? Nope, nothing missing.... just my atrocious house keeping. I was completely mortified and have had a clean and tidy house ever since... I was cured, mortified... but cured!!
LMAO! This story is one of those stories your Mom tells you to convince you as to why you always need to keep you r house clean...similar to why you should always wear clean underwear. :)
+Jefna2803 Thanks for the Video! Excuse me for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (do a google search)? It is a smashing one off guide for decluttering your home minus the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my friend Sam finally got astronomical success with it.
A couple years ago I went on a declutter rampage and tossed/donated at least 1/2 of the stuff we had. I was literally over it and we were moving so I just started bagging it up and getting rid of it asap so I couldn't change my mind. Best decision I ever made. Now I have to do a little purging again since my kids somehow accumulate stuff and it is just too much. Now to get off the couch since I finished my coffee, gotta get dressed and get into the kitchen to get it back on track. Thanks for these videos, they don't make you feel like a failure, they just inspire me to get up and get moving.
Your advice to - declutter and purge and have less with everything having a home it fits into easily and cleaning versus tidying just a steady 15 minutes a day MAY HAVE JUST CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER!
I don't do laundry every day but the biggest life changer has been doing the laundry when the basket gets full. Not stuffed and overflowing but full. As a newly married woman, this has been a huge help!
I love your message. You give me so much hope. I have fibromyalgia and chronic back pain. I've been slowly purging, cleaning, and organizing in between flares. It has been agonizing on my body and slow going but it has literally lifted my spirits instead of my depression over my limits. I loved your message cause it makes it so real and doable for me😊
Veronica Salas I also have chronic back pain, and a couple doctors wanted to diagnose me with fibro, but I've resisted that diagnosis (because I want to believe I'll get better someday, like after the back surgery I should've had years ago!) I SO feel you on the frustration & depression over limitations on cleaning (and everything else.) I'm a life-long perfectionist; I have memories of cleaning & organizing the toys in my playroom as a kid, and spent my teen years cleaning the house for my mom. So it's especially depressing for me to live in the clutter, mess & chaos that surrounds me now (I live with four messy people & five messy pets!) Or the despair of summoning the energy to clean, only to be forced to stop after just a short time due to pain, having accomplished hardly anything. The guilt for having my kids live in a far less-than perfect home, and not being able to be the mom I would be w/out the pain. That's the worst. I know having a daily routine of small tasks would help, but I'm so stuck in perfectionism that it immobilizes me! I commend you on adopting this method & making progress! People used to give me a hard time for "spring cleaning" my house every week, but now I feel like many people think I'm lazy as a wife & mother, which is a serious source of my depression. I try SO hard, but only those who cope with chronic pain & health issues know how much effort it takes to do the simplest of tasks (and how much we pay for it later.) I WISH I could clean every day, I WANT to deep clean once/week! I'm not a unicorn- I don't enjoy cleaning, but I get so much satisfaction & clarity from a clean, organized environment & life. I can't function or even think when surrounded by filth & clutter. It prevents me from doing other things because the cleaning is always what I did first, so I could focus on other stuff. I just wanted to tell you that I know how hard it is to change your habits to fit your new level of ability. I really admire you for what you've done! I wish you pain-free days & hope your spirit continues to be lifted!
Veronica Salas, fibro victim here, too. It's so difficult when you know what needs to be done and how to do it but the pain prevents you from accomplishing it. I can only work done tiny spurts of time. Sometimes I feel like it will take me a lifetime.
I live in an Rv full time from a 4 bedroom home. I have purged at least 20 time in the last two years. Now I can clean in 20 minutes and I don’t miss anything! I don’t purchase unnecessary stuff. I’m slowly becoming a minimal person. Love it! It’s so very true.
You’re helping me change my life and mental health. Being a single mom and trying to keep on top of everything can feel hopeless, but I’ve been using you’re tips and turning all of that around and making life and little bit easier everyday
Just here for the_ Comments I'm a single mum. My two are now 16 and 17 yrs old... I understand how hard it is to have a tidy clean home and good food at hand. And that alone is a full time job☝ and that's without stepping outside the door to earn money☝️it's like having two full time jobs but one of the jobs is 24hrs none stop...... Hats off to all full time mums as it's hard work and not ever given enough credit ☝️😤😤😤 I'm still out chasing Money and marching back home to start again. It can make you very unwell.
Appreciate Video clip! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you tried - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (do a google search)? It is a great one off guide for decluttering your home without the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my buddy at last got amazing results with it.
My husband always picks on me for "over cleaning". Now I have a great come back, "I'm a unicorn! Now leave me alone so I can continue shooting rainbows out of my butt!!" Thanks for the come back!! lol
Amen!! I did the KonMari Method (which isn't necessarily minimalistic) but it honestly changed my life. We have been so conditioned to think more is better... and really isn't! Keep what makes you happy and you won't need to overly organize the rest, which makes for more time to enjoy the things and the people you love! :D
Life freaking changing! I can clean my whole little apartment from a massive mess in 1 hour. I stay on top of it usually but even that isn't much work!
Love this! I love watching your videos! I just recently came across them and so glad I did. I'm one of those people who take hours to clean because of how bad unorganized and out of order my house is,but thanks to you and other youtubers I have been inspired! I have been in routine and decluttering so many days a week. I've been so much happier and so is my hubby and our house has been staying so clean! Thank you😁
thanks to you I cleaned two windows today, Im so motivated to clean everything, usually I dont understand the second parts of yours videos, I find here how to get better my english, Finally I start speaking English; this is the Unique way to learn English, also for memorizing a lot of new words with true emotions!
Great advice!! I got the opportunity to de clutter and purge the past few days and already just keeping up with stuff has made CLEANING so much faster! I feel so at ease 🤗🤗🤗
Ugh! I am still working on Step 1 and felt like I'd finally found a kindred spirit because the scenario you began with is where I'm coming from now! I am, as always, optimistic that one day it will become habit and I won't have to keep reminding myself what to clean and when. Watching "Hoarders" on TV is a terrifying motivator!
The Miller's Built Upon The Rock Same! My daughter is forever asking what's it matter if he's home? Because my "do anything but make dinner" button automatically shuts off when he walks in. 😂😂😂
It's an excuse, a reason to finish it in time. And this is wonderfull. Voluntarily making someone happy with a tidy house makes you happy and powerful. It's this inner reward that makes your house clean. The good feeling :)
You have an awsome personality!! I watch a TON of RU-vid videos and I could listen to u all day !! You don't try to pretend to be PERFECT...u keep it real and that makes it seem attainable and relatable!!!! Keep being yourself and making GREAT videos! I'M A NEW FAITHFUL SUBSCRIBER 😊😊
I just lost my mom to cancer and have been doing all of the basic cleaning in the house with my dad's help (occasionally) for a few months now. But I now have to go through and organize /declutter everything that she ever had and also the other projects from when I was younger. So I hope I can use these tips to my advantage to help me feel less stressed and more prepared for the upcoming projects.
I am going to start that purge with you tomorrow!! My house desperately needs it. I am not a minimalist but prefer less "stuff". My husband on the other hand is a pack rat. Its a tough position to be in, but I'm hoping to lead by example of getting my stuff purged and organized.
+Kurly Long Lox I have spent months studying ways to tidy up fast and discovered a great resource at Nilah Declutter Tips (google it if you are interested)
There are a few suggestions on ways to de clutter Allow yourself five minutes every day to de-clutter Give away one item every day Fill up one trash bag now! Make a list of what to do this week. Buy four sacks and sort everything into trash, give away, keep, or relocate. (Reference: Nilah declutter tips website )
You made me feel so much better about myself within the first three minutes of this. You have a new sub. I'm the oldest of five and my mother was so clean...our house was ALWAYS spotless..I don't know how she did it. I have three kids, I'm a stay at home mom and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. We are clean...but things get so messy. It's so discouraging. Thank God for people like you. Love and light!!!
This is your MOST IMPORTANT VIDEO EVER! You truly have detailed the secret, you've got to get rid of the stuff and then cleaning is so easy. Have you ever stayed in an apartment for a vacation where (unlike a hotel with a daily service) you have to wash your dishes, make the beds and sweep the floor? Because it's not full of clutter it's SO EASY. 5 minutes a day and you're done! I MUST get my house to the same state of efficiency!
Love this video! My problem is getting rid of "perfectly good and useful things" like, I know if I pare down my towels, the ones I keep will eventually wear out and then I will have to buy new ones...oooorrrrrr I can KEEP these here thirty towels and won't have to buy new ones eventually. Crap like that. LOL that's what cripples my purging and organizing in my house
I'm going to bet money that you are a perfectionist! Almost every client I've ever had over thinks and over plans like this. Start small. Start with just two extra blankets (I promise you will never need as many as you have) or 5 extra towels (the worst ones that you would be embarrassed to let guest use). The stress of purging goes away the more you do it. Remember, you will be happier, healthier and have MORE money when you have less stuff. You can treat yourself to some new, beautiful towels in a few years with all the extra money you will save living with less. It's sounds crazy, but having less stuff will save you money...it's like magic!
ClutterBug How did you know-?!?! I do have perfectionistic tendencies. And how did you know I have a crap ton of blankets? I said nothing about blankets. LOL. Ok, ok. This weekend I WILL PARE THEM DOWN! I will take the extras to the humane society and they can use them on the homeless pets. There. I feel better. LOL thank you, Cass. You're a gem, and SO GIFTED at what you do!
Thank you for responding you are only the second person to take time to do that and I have subscribe to a lot of channels so I just wanted to thank you!
I love you. I love your videos, your tips, your jokes. You're amazing. Thank you for putting in the time to make these videos. I'm a stressed out mom of two that can seem to keep up. It's nice to hear that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
You've done a great job. Sticking to a routine is a huge problem of mine. Some I manage well, others not so much. I hate cleaning the bathrooms and dusting - so those I ignore too often. Sigh. 2017 must be a better year!!
I like cleaning my house! It's working around the clutter that makes it more difficult. But right now I am in a process, room by room, to de-clutter! Excited and hoping I stay motivated. I'm getting more routines down and I do believe that really helps. I work 2 jobs so finding the more organized I am, the easier my days I work both jobs are. I am also just trying to throw out 10 items daily. Little by little... and I agree, you are FUNNY!!
Yes, girl!! You know your stuff. These are all things I try to do (no I don't always succeed #human) and my house stays so much tidier and clutter-free. I love your channel and FB group!! You are so real and just an amazing soul!!
Oh my gosh!! You were soooo me! I used to have “my act together” & a routine & orderly; actually I did better when I worked & home schooled my kids, how come that is?! I actually retired, have plenty of time & space, but now, I have a few health issues but NOTHING gets done. Of course I only need to wash clothes or the dishes once a week or less. Don’t even know how / where to start! I love your cute sense of humor! It make a me smile. You are one of my sunbeams!
Thank you for your pearls of wisdom there! But it is so true and it's truth people don't want to hear. You acheive success through hard work (the hard work is when you don't want to do something every single day but you do anyway!)! Always good to hear it from someone else going through it. It is certainly inspiring! thank you for being so refreshingly honest!
This is one of the best videos i have watched. First because of your sense of humor and second because you mention that you can be messy and untidy as a normal person. Watching the video of cleaning freaks makes me so much stressed.
I can't stop looking up her nose!? What the heck is WRONG with me? And the earring omg, once I saw it, I have no idea what she said, I just kept looking and looking
I don’t blame you for being so obsessed and worried about your kids. Now days everything crazy, is not like when we were kids things were better and not dangerous. And I do applaud every parent as careful as you are. I was very protective with my kids and still am even if they’re grownups. 👏🏻
love your channel! been a fan for quite some time now! so, last year, june, we lost our home to bankruptcy. i had contacted you via e-mail long before losing the house and you had some great ideas for me to declutter my maze of death. our home now is half the size of the old house and as much as i tried to declutter before we moved, my depression got the best of me and we brought most of it to our new place. TWO, now UNPACKED storage units, and thrown in our garage and basement later, it is FINALLY happening! we finally got our financial crisis under control, which was a HUGE burden! we've been shredding BOXES of paperwork from the past 12 years! we JUST donated 4 HUGE boxes of clothes, mainly mine and my husband's. i have a morning, evening and daily routine now! AND if something doesn't get done, i'm ok with letting it go to the following week! thank you so much for being such a huge part of my motivation to make the best of this situation and making this house, my home. it's finally happening and SO exciting!
The beginning of this video is exactly how I feel every day I am so sick of it before I had kids this was not the way it was but I feel like This is hopeless and I’ll never get back to it and then I say there has got to be a way - Thank you for all your information you have a great RU-vid channel and it really shows that you love what you do!!!
I have a certain day to do my laundry. I put things away when I am finished with them. If we have a snack between meals we put the dishes in the dish washer after we are finished. We always keep the kitchen clean. When I change clothes, I hang up or put the clothes in a laundry basket. My husband does the same. Enjoyed listening to your story.
I really enjoyed this. some of these either aren't realistic or the host is pompous and snobby.. this woman is relatable and that's what makes this great. and its real and honest.
I kinda used to be a cricket and turned into a butterfly. I know how to clean but I get stuck on the tyding which I feel I never learn. I have been able to clean my home halfway and had goals to continue finding fighting chronic pain for days and having to start again from scratch when I was finally better. When I act dumb and only do a little bit a day yes I get closer to my "goal ". But because washing is an all day thing for me I get behind. I don't have my own washer/dryer and I do hang dry half of our clothes. I recently was blessed with a dishwasher and I do use it every other day.
I absolutely loved this rant/video! Thanks for sharing and please keep them coming. I was having such a crappy day (kids on school holidays driving me a little crazy) and your rant managed to make me laugh. Thank you!!
I think this information is going to help me a LOT!!!! I have downloaded all of your cleaning pages. Thank you so much for "teaching" me how to get "on top of my house" in three easy steps. I'M GOING TO GIVE IT A TRY!!!!!
I've known you for 14:33 minutes and I love you. LOVE YOU! It's like the angel on my shoulder telling me to get it together (who's always arguing with the devil on the other shoulder telling me to relax and watch one more episode...) has jumped into my computer and her name is Cassandra. THANK YOU for making this video! I'm inspired and kind of relieved to know that someone as together as you was once more like me - swampy mess in my home. Thank you! Keep sharing!
Jennifer Ikelman I have four boys and often sit on their pee if I don't double check before sitting on toilet seat. I can't stress enough to simply lift up the toilet seat (that's the rule for boys/men) as a curtesy for ladies. I start leaving toilet seat up after bathroom visit because I know my boys won't and I will be me up sitting on their pee. I catch them sometimes and yelled at them "left up the seat!" Training 4 boys is like teaching old dogs new tricks....
Listening to you tell about your previous misery of not knowing how to keep house has taken away all my guilt about being very strict with teaching my kids how to live properly and clean up after themselves as they go! I'm free! They will be okay in the future! Hooray!
I love your enthusiasm and humor about this subject that we all deal with!! It inspires me to get started WITHOUT THE GUILT OF A DIRTY HOUSE!!! Thank you so much!! I subbed right away and can't wait to see more!! Keep the the REAL about it cause it helps drive away the guilt, which for me, holds me back from even starting!!
My cleaning routine is clean as you go. I never leave a mess behind. And I've taught my almost 2 year old to do the same. She knows where every single toy goes and knows to put them back before moving to the next thing. Now to train the husband....
So happy to have found your channel! I’m feeling so overwhelmed by our tiny one bedroom apartment. I feel like no matter how much I clean it’s never actually clean! I spend most of the day when I do clean, just picking shit up off the floor or counter tops and not even getting to organize it! Ugh it’s awful :( and depressing me
Your Videos actually made me keep my home clean. They motivated me and inspired me with organizing my home and keeping it that way. I had to find out that I'm just motivated to do my routin in the morning, so I do everything in the morning before my boy goes for his nap :) Thank you for that. I feel so much better in my home :)
Omg Yes! The day I realized that Cleaning and De-Cluttering were two very different things was a urika moment for me. Once I de-cluttered all the Stuff and designated a place for everything I discovered I was a Unicorn! Haha. Now cleaning part NOW actually IS a Joy. The KEY for me is... Simplify.
You are amazing! You are my favorite organizer. I've watched other videos and have found them helpful but no one holds my attention like you. You always make me laugh especially when I've "Stayed Till The End"🙂 I'm working on my second purge year. I'm well on my way to finding the balance to a semi minimalist lifestyle. Whenever I'm feeling blah and need motivation I see what Cassie has to say❤ Look how much you have accomplished.. Truly inspiriting. It definitely helps to have some humor about what life throws us and laugh at ourselves when we do stupid things. Thank You Infinity
Unicorn here & love it. Clean house kept clean because i do a bit everyday even before & after work, load of washing everyday, decluttered long ago.... but purge the old when i but new. Have much more time for family/friends..... and my front door can be opened without apologizing to ppl for a messy house.
U r amazing. This is the biggest problem I have! U r so kool and honest. I HATE CLEANING CUZ I START TEN THINGS AT ONCE JUMPING FROM ONE THING TO ANOTHER BEFORE ANYTHING IS FINESHED!
I found a way to make cleaning enjoyable for myself. I like to listen to stories, podcasts, etc...well the ONLY time I can listen to them is when I'm cleaning. So it makes chores like doing the dishes or laundry more enjoyable because I'm getting a "treat" during them. Consider it positive reinforcement. So now when I have to do laundry, etc, I look forward to it.
I need help, and that's hard for me to say because I hide from people. But watching this video I feel like I'm not alone so thank you. I need to purge A LOT of stuff. I have five kids and years of build up. And I can honestly say it terrifies me.
i found to clean up after yourself every time..... getting hid of stuff I no longer use/ wear helps to keep it cleaner and putting things back where you got it from helps a ton I hate hunting for my stuff
I get so lazy being a stay at home mom. I kept the house so much cleaner when I was working. Glad I stumbled on your video. It gave me motivation to start the laundry. Lol
I can’t remember if I commented the first time I watched this but this video and particularly Tip #2 has changed my home which has impacted my mental space for the good. Thank you!
You are a "Rock Star"!!! I have this video saved in a playlist and refer to it often. Keep on being "you" . If I ever have the courage to do a channel, I would definitely recommend you!!!!!!
So funny! Who knew house work could be that funny! If you had unicorns with rainbows coming out of their arses you would be singing joyously while cleaning the loo. Unless the purple really stains of course. A thousand years ago when I had a cleaner come in once a week, I very quickly learned the difference between tidying and cleaning. By the time I tidied up I was exhausted. Still am really. But I figured if we, the 2 adults and 3 kids could tidy up then our lovely cleaner could concentrate on the cleaning. It knocked an hour off the cleaning time and of course what I paid. The house did look and feel better once she was done. I also thought of her picking up after us as if we were too rich to lower ourselves to put away. There were no servants in our house! Having others in the house see it that way was a little extra work lol.
Love, love, love you videos. I need realistic inspiration and I am so glad I found you channel. I don't poop rainbows or barf butterflies either...yep, I'm a troll, lol!
You are a Rock Star to me! Thank You for sharing yourself with me and so many countless of others who just need to be understood and who shown the solution and UOU have to given me the tools for this solution. 3 easy steps !you know, de clutter myself, and I'll have more time for others outside myself if they ever were to need me. I'm really going to be ok. Thank You for this mode of communication . I've grasp this concept ,and am ready to start A brand new beginning of A "no stress with less mess" life. Now, let me get started o).
I have literally been sitting here for hours watching your videos. You are my new best friend now ok? While I felt really motivated to get cleaning, I haven't moved because I've been too busy watching!
I, too, like my stuff and an a "mini minimalist." I don't think I could ever be a full minimalist. Lol. But my natural tendency is tge opposite of minimalism, so being a mini minimalist is pretty good for me! Thank you for this video and all your amazing videos!
Mini Minimalist, hey, I like that idea! Thanks for your wisdom, this is what I’ve been doing these past few weeks. I have been blessed with having a finished basement with a separate craft room & I’m plugging along everyday, a bit at a time, along with MUCH PRAYER! Take care, I think I found a kindred spirit in you! I look forward to another video!
thank you, thank you, thank you ClutterBug I'm making a routine list that I will tackle everyday, I will then purged and last I will organize. My mom was one of those people that love to clean I will eventually be like her ☺
