Hi Jordan. Another excellent video. 😊 You make everything look so easy. I received quite a few take aways today. My serve isn’t consistent yet so that’s my number one goal. I must keep practicing. I LOVE your last tip. Develop a Serving Routine. The people I play with serve so quickly and I’m so slow. I’m trying to develop that routine before I serve like you mentioned in a couple of your videos. This routine I’m working on slows me down and I don’t feel as anxious. I’ll be able to practice your tips on this week.💃🏽 Thank you!!!!

I'd say that Jordan's main pre-serve routine is to spin his paddle, but we all know he does it constantly before and after every shot. It's as natural as breathing.

I like to have an indicator if I hit a powerful serve when practicing serves. For tennis it is hitting the back fence before the second bounce. I practice my pickleball serves on a tennis court and try to have the second bounce go beyond the tennis baseline when going for the power serve.

Hoe do you keep a real loose grip and a loose arm and at the same time keep your wrist and paddle stable?
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball 7 месяцев назад
Practice. I would start by serving a slow/medium pace and go from there.
@paulogden7417
@paulogden7417 Год назад
One thing I would add to your serve prep: call the score before you start your serve motion, and wait a second for any response. I have seen too many out serves resulting from the distraction of a miscalled or misunderstood score. Generally there is no need to rush the serve windup by mixing it with a score call
@BrionesPickleball

That’s a good one

Jordan, Long question about serving. I just won Gold in mens dbbls and my partner was a bit miffed that I "missed" some serves. My serve is VERY hard n low to the net , thus prone to errors. However, I'm about 95%+ overall.. I also served 7-0 and 6-0 points on two different occasions..Total missed serves about 6 over 12 games.. Your thoughts..?? Thanks, Kev-
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball Год назад
If me and my partner win the game, there should be no whining about missing serves. It’s about knowing when to go for more, and when to play a little bit more conservatively. Missing serves doesn’t matter as much, what matters is when you miss them. Even pros miss serves. I would say anything over 90% is a great percentage if you’re winning easy points on serve.
@SDPBALLCOACH
@SDPBALLCOACH Год назад
@@BrionesPickleball Ok, that's kinda what I was thinking. I missed some but I "carried" us on some as well... I coach serving as a specialist and I was having trouble with slippery grip so I know what the issue was. Thanks for the affirmation. Take care..

It may depend on your sports background. If you were used to serving the ball out of your hand in volleyball, or badminton, there is almost no transition to hitting it out of your hand in pickleball. The plus side is almost no toss variable. Other racket sports not so much.
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball 2 года назад
Letting the ball drop to optimal height before you strike the ball is important. Also, hitting the ball right out of the hand may limit your rotation because your hand will be in the way.
@dalevoigt8612
@dalevoigt8612 2 года назад
@@BrionesPickleball As a player that hits out of my hand if the ball needs to drop before you hit if then you are hold the ball too high for that type of serve. As far as torso rotation you can choose a different plane to rotate around. As far as moving the hand out of the way at the last fraction of a second, that is subconscious.
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball 2 года назад
@@dalevoigt8612 watch all the best servers serve, they definitely let the ball drop for optimal power, and they don’t hit it right out of their hand. Dekel, Zane, Tyson to name a few

@ConnectCommit

I tried slowing down the video and noticed on the last two serves you demonstrate --- A. the ball is struck very very close to the waist and B. As the paddle sweeps up to brush the ball and apply topspin, the paddle head 'seems' to be higher than your wrist. I've almost stopped trying these recommended serves because unless you serve in a painfully obvious legal way, someone will call illegal serve during a game.
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball 2 года назад
All serves here are legal. Everyone should learn to serve this way. Also, if you are that concerned with legality, just hit a drop serve with the same motion.
