There's only one mechanism, any Zen practice that is,
The fastest way to Zen is the easiest one.
Even if you here for the first time,
you can still experience it.
Right at this moment,
no matter what the method is, if you stop judging,
Stop judging whether you are in the "True Self"
state or not, just get rid of all judgments.
It's not about leaving some thoughts be
while getting rid of others
It's about abandoning judgment altogether.
Whether it was "True Self" or not,
Whether it was a deep connection or not,
Whether it was just a glimpse or a continuous experience,
Doesn't matter,
The answer is to abandon those judgments altogether
and that is how, at this very moment,
stay connected with the "True Self".
We miss our "True Self",
when we can't stop making judgments,
But we also miss it when
We are judging that we are missing it.
The moment that you judge that you've missed it
is the actual moment you missed it.
If you just stop saying that you've missed it,
you are back in that state.
There's really no other way.
The famous Zen-Master Hwang-Beok only taught one way
to Zen, which was arrested judgment method.
It's all the same.
In our academy, we advocate this method,
so that people can meet their "True Self",
And become one with the "True Self",
that's where arrested judgment method comes into play.
We've been really pushing this method
more than any other school of meditation.
We do it by saying "I Don't Know", that's all
you got to do in order to arrest judgment,
When you say "Don't Know", you are in the state of
pure consciousness, and the embodiment of "True Self"
You are meeting your own presence at this moment
You are completely aligned with the "True Self"
that is in the present moment.
It's that calm feeling that you get when you say,
"I Don't Know."
Your presence, you sensation of existence is exactly that.
Your existence itself is a mystery.
Do you know what western philosophers considered
As the most mysterious thing of all back in the days?
It's the existence itself, how come something "Is"?
This is literally the start of all question, isn't it?
Something "Is".
A lot of western philosophers
said this over and over again.
When you guys hear it in modern time you might think,
"What kind of nonsense is that?"
The most fundamental proposition
that precedes all question is that
Something that exists, "Is",
while something that doesn't exist, "Isn't".
Something that is, "Is".
This is a mysterious phenomenon, and they started
looking for the answer why anything "Is" at all
That's the essence of existentialism, "Why do I exist?"
The question of God and all others stem from there.
Why does anything exists?
Same story in Buddhism,
That's why Monk Dae-Hang always preached
"Beginning exists because I exist,
Universe exist because I "am""
The fact that I "am" at all, is the great unknown.
Most people don't realize how extraordinary our existence is.
Why? Because we are thinking about this through Ego.
You put a veil of limited perspective of Ego
on top of your true presence and existence itself
You replace it with feeling of existence of small "I",
with the sense of individuality.
And this feeling of small "I" is a burden
And now this becomes a "real" issue for the Ego
But instead,
If you just exist without judging or thinking,
Presence of "True Self" will reveal itself,
instead of Ego's presence.
This is the bedrock and the background of Universe itself, something "Is".
And that's why in the old testament,
the name of the GOD is "I am"
This is the presence, existence itself.
this just means your presence, if you translate it,
My existence.
That's also why when Jesus talks about the God
in new testament, called it,
"I AM"
Even when he talks about himself
Moses...... never mind, it wasn't Moses,
Even before Abraham, "I AM"
He didn't say I was there in the past,
Simply, "I AM", I exist.
"I AM" is literally the name of the God, it's calling the God.
Because YHWH called himself "I AM". It's just God himself.
When he said "Before Abraham, I AM",
This is the presence and existence of God
It's not the individual existence or presence.
Jesus existed even before Abraham
He is not talking about his individualistic existence,
if that was the case, he wouldn't have expressed it
in that way, instead he specifically said "I AM"
"My presence was there".
It's the presence of "True Self",
How to feel that presence right now?
By stop thinking, no matter what.
Throughout history, there were few who found this truth,
And once they found out, they thought,
"Shouldn't everyone know about this?"
That's why they mean by, "Find your truest form" or
"What state were you in before you were born?"
They'll keep on pushing you with these question
Why? so that you can stop thinking.
Once you stop thinking and judging,
your identification with ego stops.
