I like how you noted the shape and quality of contact for each shot. I think I'm going to do that. At my current state, it will probably be a better indication of how my golf game is progressing (as opposed to my overall scorecard). Another great video Tom!

I guess I should also mention that my golf game has improved dramatically since I started watching your videos. My score was so far over 100 that I’ve never bothered to count it accurately. Now my average score is in the low 90s with a few scores dropping into the high 80s. Plus it is way more fun to play golf when you can strike the ball well. Thank you for what you’ve taught me.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Monte, and I appreciate your kind words! The course vlogs are rather difficult for me to justify from a cost-benefit perspective. They take considerable time to record and produce, and they just don't garner anywhere near the viewership and interest in comparison to the lesson videos. I must keep the desires of my general audience in mind in this regard. That's not to say I won't do another at some point, but my primary focuses are supporting my online school and its members while creating quality instruction content for this channel's subs and visitors. Yeah, the mind is so powerful. Gotta forget bad shots as soon as they happen, they do not have to dictate your next shot. But they will if you keep them in your mind. Golf is not a game of perfection, there are just gonna be some bad shots and some that are downright ugly. Move on and enjoy the game and fresh air.

My really good round was in the low 80s and my average round was mid to high 80s and bad round being low 90s to even I can get to high 90s now my average round is low 80s. I have broken 80 several times before but I stay in the low 80s bad round being high 80s. I also get at least 2 birdies every round. But last time I was out I adjusted my swing a little bit and now I think I'll be breaking 80 on a regular. I was hitting so much further the guy in the group in front of me called me John daly lol. Fun video Tom! I’m gonna watch this all winter up here in Illinois. I started using your method mid-summer. While it is hard changing from my old swing, the results speak for themselves. Solid contact is so important. I’m donating all my old golf books to Goodwill! Also not watching any other RU-vid instructors. Throwing all my golf eggs in your one KFC bucket.

Keep those eggs incubating in that bucket, Michael, and they'll hatch into some extra-crispy KFC for you!! I understand that those ghosts of swings past are stubborn and do not go away without a fight, but if you embrace the process and commit yourself to doing the work you will conquer them. Thanks for your kind words and dedication! I was one of those golfers who always shot in the high nineties and sometimes over one hundred. Since learning Stack and Tilt from Tom at the beginning of the warm season, I now shoot in the mid-eighties to low nineties. I found a way to practice indoors (for the winter) with a Tracman setup that I can rent, like going to the range. I firmly believe I can get to the low 80s with continued practice and instruction.

It was reassuring to hear you talk about course conditions and their impact on your game. I like to play as much golf as possible, and since it isnt a cheap game there are 3 courses in my area that I frequent due to the quality vs price. They are "decent" courses, but they all have imperfections (occasional bare spots on the fairway, sandy greens, less than perfect bunkers with very coarse sand, etc). I find myself dealing with these at least a few times per round and every time I hit a bad shot from an adverse condition, I give myself a mental pass. It's hard to feel like I should be penalized under those circumstances.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 9 месяцев назад
Yes - I understand. As long as you're not in a "play it as it lies" competition and are just playing for enjoyment, then I see no problem with giving yourself a lie that one should normally expect when on the fairway, or going with a 2-putt maximum when the greens have been treated and are virtually unplayable (provided your playing partners agree). We don't need any more anguish than what this game already dishes out!!

Thank you Tom! My brother told me all about you and you have completely transformed my game. I picked golf back up at 50 years old after years off and wanted a swing with crispy contact, a divot and NO over the top weak fade/slice. Everything you teach me totally works. My main struggle is trying to unlearn bad habits from years of bad instruction. Thanks again and keep teaching us golf in a way we can all actually learn and apply!
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 года назад
It's my pleasure, Scott! I appreciate your kind words, and please thank your brother for you in my direction!! I'm very very glad to know that my channel's instruction is resonating well with you, and that through your dedicated effort you are now on the path towards crispy compressed ball striking bliss. Yes - those “ghosts of swings past” do not disappear on their own, and if you are transitioning from a previous swing method that involved shifting weight into your trail side and/or lifting the club with your hands they may take some time to exorcise. But you will conquer them through patience and proper repetition. There is certainly plenty of great content in this channel to help you through the process, but if you are looking for a more structured learning environment to fast-track yourself - and assuming you have not already looked into it - please consider my online school for just $10/month or $99/year. I had my first under 80 round in my life! (A 78 from the blue tips at Legion Memorial). @SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 года назад
I truly appreciate your kind words, Rob. I'm thrilled for the improvement you've experienced through my channel's instruction content, and I look forward to seeing you in the online school! With regard to the school, here's a little bit of preliminary advice as you get started: 1) It is crucial to take sufficient time to master the fundamental components of the first couple of chapters! I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when a student jumps ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating himself/herself to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Please have a look at this introductory video if you have not already done so: saguto.golf/courses/1166020/lectures/30347767. 2) One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will suggest that students park themselves on Chapter 2 of the Golf Swing Simplified course for an extended period of time after locking down Chapter 1's foundational elements. Chapter 2 reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then commit yourself to that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use this partially abbreviated swing on the course and play quite well with it as it will provide plenty of distance. (It actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators.) Once you've got that down, you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing! 3) Also, as you progress always keep in mind the V1 Swing Video Analysis service, an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf 4) Finally, as @Doug mentioned, please migrate over to the new “Office Hours” forum - which is included in your online school membership - and begin engaging with other golfers in the SagutoGolf community. It only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access and participate in the great dialogue that we are having on a variety of topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I monitor the forum regularly and am a frequent participant in the discussions, including assisting with swing-related inquiries. I really think you’ll enjoy it! I look forward to hearing from you regularly in the Forum and to assisting you in building a consistent, low maintenance, powerful, body-friendly swing that will bring your enjoyment of this great game to a new level! Thanks again for your message and have fun out there!! Tom

Unfortunately, Mark, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 If you'd like to get on the fast track perhaps you might consider the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Additionally, you'll find all my short game content (putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play), advanced level courses on shot shaping and power/distance, diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more there. @SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 месяца назад
That's so fantastic improvement so far, Keenan! 💪💪 And yes - those milestones do get tougher, but by focusing on the right things you will get into the 80's sooner rather than later. For example, the key to breaking 90 is keeping the ball in play and eliminating big numbers. In other words, on a par-72 course all you have to do is shoot one stroke better than bogey golf and you've got an 89. So if you can keep the ball in play to eliminate the big numbers and shave a few strokes on and around the green - which anyone can do with a little focused effort - then we'll see you in the 80's this season! By the way, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. Fun episode. I choose to laugh on good and bad shots. Hell...I'm able to be retired, taking up a stupid game, and hangin' with my bandmates on a beautiful yard for 4 hours of juvenile behavior...and the beer always tastes great afterwards. Do I have goals? Of course. I am out to have fun no matter how I hit...which for now is pretty inconsistent. Going into the water but the strike felt great? That's a good thing...as long as I can remember how that felt great and can do it without water in the way! Rock it up, Tom! Thanks for helping get my swing closer to where it needs to be. Loved this video, Tom. Yes, please do more of these. I especially loved the advice about enjoying the good shots and not fretting too much about the bad shots. To me, crispy contact is the most satisfying part of the game, regardless of what I shoot. As you can tell from this comment, my putting sucks, but no matter; I still have a lot of fun when I hit the ball well. I have more fun shooting 80 when I hit 12 greens than 79 when I hit only 6, but chip and putt like crazy. That's not very satisfying.

I'm glad to know that helped your iron play, Matthew! It's really the same swing with the driver and woods - just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. (In fact, here is a video of Stack and Tilt co-founder Mike Bennett hitting the driver: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7fmtzyH3rsA.html. It looks very similar to his iron swing, right?: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SLjwU_1Cc7o.html ) If you do a search on this channel you'll see some content on the driver and fairway woods. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously. Saguto has absolutely helped me. While I don't currently use stack and tilt when driving (though I should), I do use it with my irons and now I hit greens often. It's such a great feeling! Obviously hitting greens is how you consistently get more pars and birdies, which will put you right in the 80s if not better! (of course there the occasional bogey or worse).
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 года назад
I appreciate the kind words, @DJ-Flights, and I'm very glad to know that S&T is performing well with your iron game. While the driver typically takes a bit longer to master, I can tell you with certainty from personal experience that it's worth the process. I hit it so much longer and straighter now than I ever did in my best days of shift & lift, and that equates to many more pin-seeking crispy short irons per round. Translation: 70's if not better!! 😎 Keep the great work, and let's get that driver dialed in!! Cheers! Tom

@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
@DJ-Flights - I'll share with you some kernels of wisdom regarding the common issues when folks are KFC crisping their irons with S&T but are still trying to dial in the mashed potato drives: 1) They don't start with - or maintain - enough weight on the front side. In general with the longer clubs we should add a little more front weight load at address - more like 60/40 instead of the 55/45 prescribed for the other clubs. This forward weight should gradually increase to the top of the backswing (70/30) and build further on the downswing - approximately 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. 2) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, changing the low point and rerouting the club. This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. 3) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft length of the longer clubs encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as you take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as you maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around you, it should put you in the proper position at the top so you can attack the ball from the inside. While there's much more detailed lessons and drills designed to help with this in the online school, you should be able to find some helpful content here in the channel. Here's to Bombing it! Tom
@dj-flights7376

@@SagutoGolf Thanks Tom! Yes I've been working on it lately. I re-watched your Guide to driving and tried out some things with a few balls on the range after a game. I realized I had the ball too far forward and moved it a clubhead length behind the front leg like you said in the video. With the new position, I found I had space to bring back bowing the left wrist (wring the towel when starting the downswing). All I can say is wow! The ball jumped off the driver better than any shot I had all day, just from fixing the ball position and bowing the lead wrist. I only got to try it with 3 hits and had to leave, but I'll be continuing with it this weekend. I also realized my right arm needs to work in a different way through impact, which I can more easily feel now with the bowed wrist. I've found some great new feelings dry swinging all week. I'll be trying out this new stuff at the range this weekend. I really think I'm about to have a distance and consistency breakthrough. I might post a video if/when it happens. I think my long swing change is finally about to be complete. Thanks for all the help! (and I was a member, it was helpful)

Thanks Tom. Love to see a 9 hole Vlog. I have been making progress, though slowly. I’ve had a couple of rounds in the 80’s recently. I’m hoping to be there in every round by next season. I have found that even if I can’t hit the green, if I can get AROUND the green in regulation, I can often do no worse than bogey.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 года назад
Glad you enjoyed the episode, Bob! Thanks for the progress update. Your goal for next season is most definitely in reach. Consider that - on a par 72 course - all you need to do is par just one hole and bogey the other 17 to break 90; you are essentially already there! And once you're consistently in the 80's don't be scared when you find yourself in position to actually break 80, because those opportunities will present themselves on days when you're on or near the green and the short game is really clicking. Keep up the great work and have fun out there!! Tom

Tom my old swing came back last week and stayed with me the entire round and shot my worst ever score of 94. So I was like go away you suck and went out yesterday and hit the ball super crispy and shot 87 on a tough course. Now I just need to learn how to putt and I'll be in the low 80s. Stack and tilt saved me from quitting the game!!

Your best video ever …. great to see your thought process as you play. The 3 wood was the right selection, especially when you are out just playing. I have a friend who always says - I hope to hit a hole in one today, I have started thinking that on every par 3, haven’t hit one yet but one day I will. Watched a show about the orange whip golf trainer. It appears they put to much weight on the back foot and pick up thier head a little when they swing. Plus you say the truth is in the dirt (Ben Hogan), they don’t really take a divot - no truth in that swing. Thanks again for a great video.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 года назад
I'm glad you enjoyed the course vlog, Adam! I'll definitely try to do more of those as the schedule permits. Yes - 3 wood was the right club, and with my usual shot shape I'd have been putting or chipping for eagle. I just pushed it a little too far right and it didn't want to come back enough. Oh well, the potential reward was worth the risk. I love your par 3 mindset and I look forward to hearing from you when you card that first ace! Cheers! Tom

Yeah. I've been soaking up these videos everyone that comes out. I will say that I injured my shoulder with some bursa sack and some rotator inflammation working out really hard trying to fix my swing using this method. HOWEVER as I'm in rehab, what I'm doing is taking it back now using this method to only a half swing. As a result, I'm swinging through the ball more freely cuz I'm not over rotated and the ball is going pretty much just as far and my balls are much crispy or shots. Funny that my over rotation has always been the demon in my game and even in this system was keeping me from getting it right. so weight on the left leg I press on the gas pedal with my left foot and come on through from the inside. The sound and the feeling never get old One last thing, the tilt has been the hardest thing to get but with my slower half swing I'm finally getting there.
@doug2993

Yeah, the 1/2 and 3/4 swings are what really give the results and the feedback. I'm convinced that many amateur golfers way overswing and thus lack consistent ball striking.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 года назад
Hi Kevin, Reaching back for more is like conducting a séance for those old swing demons, and they sure come back to haunt us when we do. The depth we create by getting our hands behind the trail shoulder at the top gives us all the power we need, even if it "looks" like less than a full swing compared to our old Shift & Lift days. Trust me - you've created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it deep; there's no need to try to get to "parallel" - that false deity of swings past. Execute the motions, understand and ingrain your body's natural stopping point - that's where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete and the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees - and then the most difficult part: train yourself to stop there! If you try to go any further any or all of the following will occur: 1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift 2) the wrists will break down 3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side 4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball 5) weight will shift into the trail side 6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact 7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury On a related note, it is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing. Have you enrolled yet? So many folks across the globe are now playing the best golf of their lives as a result. One more note on 1/2 and 3/4 shots. It forces you to have a better transition. I struggled with always rushing that, being in a hurry to get back to the ball. This really helps with that. My playing partner was always telling me to “slow down.” That’s what he was referring to, that slight pause that is there in ALL good ball strikers.

After watching a bunch of your videos and practicing hitting birdie balls and going to the driving range, I think I have settled on a technique that will serve me well for years to come. I have broken my key swing thoughts into the following acronym: TBTS. What does this stand for you ask. Well I'm glad you asked. T stands for tilting the spine. The video where you mention that you should point your lead shoulder to the ground at the start of the back swing, almost like you are doing side crunches, is just the feel I need to make sure I am tilting correctly. I just make sure that my left arm is straight while doing this move. B stands for bumping the lead hip to the target to start the downswing. I find that if I don't do this too quickly that this almost makes the swing feel effortless. Keeping your head behind the ball and focusing on a particular spot on the ball also helps. I find that your stack and tilt method makes it so much easier to keep your head back than the traditional shifting weight to trail foot during the backswing. T stands for tucking the trail elbow in front of the trail hip following the hip bump. I consider this the magic move to stop the dreaded over the top move that I have struggled with all my life. This is such an unnatural feeling movement but it works wonders. S stands for straightening the lead leg at the completion of the downswing. For me this provides more power and make sure I complete my hip turn. If I can put all of these together in my swing, my shots are more accurate and longer than at any time in my life, and I am in my mid 60s. Hope my scores will be there some day as well!! The key is to keep practicing until everything becomes second nature. I find that hitting birdie balls off a good quality mat is a great way to practice. Would be interested in your thoughts on my approach or if you see any flaws. Thanks so much for providing such excellent content and for making things fun with your oddball sense of humor. I feel like I should become a member just to pay you back for what you have done for my game!

Quite frankly, Bob, your TBTS frightens me because you have just taken all my dedicated time and effort here and effectively consolidated it into four letters. In other words, you have dramatically simplified my simplified instruction, thereby rendering me nearly obsolete.....😬😂 No - I do not see any flaws in your approach. It actually seems like a very effective way for you to build in the feels you need to ingrain your swing motion. Nicely done!! And yes - I'd love to see you in the online school - not for my benefit but for yours, because here's what you get to enjoy as an enrolled member: - Unlimited access to comprehensive members-only systems for the full swing. - Short game courses: Chipping, Pitching, Bunker play, Putting. - Simplified, succinct, step-by-step lessons and drills designed to put you on an accelerated path towards learning everything in a well-organized, self-guided fashion. - Detailed troubleshooting diagnostic videos and fixes for a variety of common swing issues. - Power & Distance course. - Shot-Shaping Grid course. - Ball Flight Fixes course. - Indoor Training Program. - The quick-start “Get Out and Go Play” program. - A Members' Forum where you can ask specific swing-related questions, interact with others in the SagutoGolf community, and suggest new content ideas. @SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 года назад
I appreciate that! But I must clarify with regard to what you believe you are seeing in my swing. I know it sounds like a strange concept to those who have only ever subscribed to a swing model that is based on shifting weight from back to front, but I assure you that this swing is anything but a reverse pivot! Yours is a good question, though, because it represents an often-misconstrued notion and occasional invalid criticism of the Stack & Tilt swing, and as such I always appreciate the opportunity to respond and clarify. You start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. There's no "weight shift", therefore - unless one were to fall backwards - there's nothing to reverse or pivot!! And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing! Cheers! Tom

Great! Those lessons have helped a lot of folks across the globe. Mr. Hogan timelessly delivers phenomenal instructional value, right?! But there are just so many misconceptions about Hogan’s swing out there - particularly within the realm of misunderstood or misapplied teachings - that have sadly relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, because if we can get Hogan right there are tremendously effective swing keys to be garnered!!
