The most important skill you need in the golf swing to be good at golf - ALL golfers need this skill in the golf swing to be good at golf. Learn the most important skill and fundamental of the golf swing that will show you how to have clean contact and hit the golf ball clean every time (hit the ball then the turf). The skill every golfer needs is the ability to have the same point of contact in the golf swing. That means hitting the golf ball then the turf every time - having clean contact every time. This is no doubt, the most important skill every golfer needs because having consistently clean contact with the golf ball and the turf is the foundation of a repeatable golf swing. All golfers need to know this important golf swing skill.

I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

Does it almost feel like hitting a punch shot... I always pure it when I hit a punch but I think it's because how much you put your weight and your hands forward in that type of swing.

A bunch of duffers got me so confused I put the gear away for two years. I’m baaaaack and completely focused on working through my whole bag using Toms methods. Joining right after I finish typing. Thanks for the great video share Tom. Your tips are very simple to follow and even self-explanatory in some cases. I’ve been following the videos for a few weeks now and I’ve noticed some key improvements in getting my swing consistent and better impact. I’m not too worried about distance but my dispersion has noticeably reduced for my irons and the accuracy has definitely improved which for me is key. Keep up the good work.

I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Derek, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. This swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. No surprise then that it stands the test of time and does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world today. Thanks again for your support and for sharing your improvement, and keep up the great work!! Tom PS: I may have already shared the link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. That is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

Great content guys, eliminating weight shift is something I've been thinking about for a long time and I wouldn't be surprised if modern golf instruction starts going in that direction. Another big advantage is that it's a lot easier to clean up the swing and filter unwanted movements that go along with the shift and are detrimental to the strike!

Tom thanks for the instruction and it really seems like you want us to play our best golf. It comes across that way in your videos. I just picked up the game this spring at 60 to spend time with the boys, now addicted. Since watching your videos it has helped my swing, best score thus far is 94 thanks to you, usually around 105. When I follow the "stac/tilt" teaching my ball striking is more consistent. My issue is I'm left handed so my lead leg is my right leg which has had 3 minor arthroscopic surgery's over the years so putting 55/45 tilt on the front leg has soreness as the number of holes played increases. So I'm trying more of a balance 50/50 but honestly not striking as clean as with the Stac. I'm trying to find a balance of Stac/tilt and 50/50?

I saw one of your videos on “RU-vid shorts,” that was less than two minutes long. It changed my game. I am 65 and a 7.1 index, but only because my short game is really good. I have been hitting/ball striking terrible for the past few years. Your short video showing how bringing back the club on the reverse C, and return it along the same arc reminded me of my first golf lesson ever. As I lose flexibility being older even though I’m in good shape at 6’ 0” 188 lbs, I just don’t have the flexibility I used to and realized I had been picking my club up and not making a shoulder turn. Your short lesson changed everything for me and I went out and shot 76 with my son. I’m now watching all your videos and sending them to my friends. I’m in San Diego but I saw you had a 717 area code and I am originally from Pennsylvania so if you’re from Pennsylvania that’s terrific because that’s where we originally are from. I can’t imagine why I’ve never discovered you before but you’re terrific and I appreciate your videos so very much. Thank you.

That's awesome!! I'm very glad to know that lesson resonated so well with you - great job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!! A significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing and experience great ball striking. I'm in South Carolina now, but I did grow up in South Central PA. Thanks so much for your support and for sharing your success, keep up the great work, and have fun out there!! Tom PS: If you're interested in taking your game to the next level, please your game to the next level, please consider the online school. So many folks across the globe - including many seasoned and low-handicap players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. I have to hand it to you Tom. This video with Jess was like hitting the lottery for me. Maybe once in 30-40 swings with an iron, I would get that sweet buttery feel of a dead solid perfect, iron shot you talked about. I did exactly as you guys instructed. I took short swings with straight arms and 55-60 percent of my weight on my lead leg. I did this for about 15 minutes without hitting any balls. My divot was always in front of my alignment rod. Long story short, my first 8 shots with a half swing were spot on in the center of the club face. I had a little fade but oh how I loved that buttery feel and solid click of ball being hit perfectly. Tried a few 3/4 swings and they were good also. I have a few timing issues to start drawing the ball again but don’t anticipate that will be hard. Many thanks for the best day I’ve had on the range in a long time. Taking it to the course tomorrow!

I appreciate that, Marty, and I'm happy to know that you'll be enrolling in the school! Here's some preliminary advice to help you get off to a good start on your journey to the Land of Ball Striking Bliss: 1) Regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Chapter 1 of the Golf Swing Simplified program (GSS) and Part I of Get Out & Go Play (GOGP) both address this. 2a) GSS: One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will suggest that students park themselves on Chapter 2 of the GSS course for an extended period of time after locking down Chapter 1's foundational elements. Chapter 2 reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then commit yourself to that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use this partially abbreviated swing on the course and play quite well with it as it will provide plenty of distance. (It actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators.) Once you've got that down, you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing! 2b) GOGP: This quick-start program is exactly as it sounds - it is designed to fast-track you out onto the course so you can have fun - and success - playing as you learn! Should you choose this path, everything in #1 above still applies, and as implied above in 2a you will still want to work through it sequentially and gradually, mastering each lesson before moving ahead to the next one. In this program, Drill #5 - The Flying Wedge is the one you'll want to park yourself on and nail down. 3) Also, as you progress always keep in mind the V1 Swing Video Analysis service, an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf 4) Finally, please migrate over to the SagutoGolf Community Forum - which is included in your online school enrollment - and begin engaging with your fellow members. It only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access and participate in the great dialogue that we are having on a variety of topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I really think you’ll enjoy it! I look forward to assisting you through the school’s structured lessons and drills towards building a consistent, low maintenance, powerful, body-friendly swing that will bring your enjoyment of this great game to a new level! Tom

HOLY SH!T HOLY SH!T HOLY SH!T. Getting that far left always scared me but it was shocking how good it got me to rotate and activate my ground forces. No sliding, no jumping, none of that. I set my weight on my left side 60 - 30 and took a number of small swings to feel the change and get used to it and then......SNAP, I got the feeling, for another 35 minutes and found my low point. Flushed 10-12 in a row and began to trust where I was going to bottom out. Ramped up the speed and amazed myself with the mash I was feeling. Saw consistent distance and dined on KFC impact until I stopped. dude. the smile on my face right now is pure amazement. the last 20 years have been a huge ?????????. That has ended as of today. Hello Tom. I am Benny , from Jakarta. I have been following you for couple of years. Your tips in this video give me great results, especially on my irons and hybrid. My question is, do we still stay 60/40 for driver? Because I can hit more solid and more consistent as well on driver if I use your tips in this video, but then difficult for me to swing up. Or for driver, I have to switch back to 50/50 weight distribution on set up?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
Hi Benny - It's essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. In fact, here is a video of Stack and Tilt co-founder Mike Bennett hitting the driver: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7fmtzyH3rsA.html. It looks very similar to his iron swing, right?: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SLjwU_1Cc7o.html If you do a search on this channel you'll see some content on the driver and fairway woods. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously. As for hitting up with the driver, think of proper impact position - hands leading the clubface, bowed front wrist, weight 90% loaded into the lead leg. It'd be difficult to retain those angles if we were actually hitting up on it. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants using extra high tees and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, believe it or not the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.3 degrees - nearly level but slightly down nonetheless! Thus, I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. So yes - you start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. If you keep that weight moving forward with the lower body while keeping your head and upper torso in place during the downswing, then the path will naturally shallow and you'll be bombing your driver! If you would like to own this swing through your entire bag - learning it at your own pace in a structured and sequential manner - then perhaps you will consider the SagutoGolf online school? So many folks across the globe are now playing the best golf of their lives as a result. As an enrolled member you'll enjoy: - Unlimited access to comprehensive members-only systems for the full swing. - Short game courses: Chipping, Pitching, Bunker play, Putting. - Simplified, succinct, step-by-step lessons and drills designed to put you on an accelerated path towards learning everything in a well-organized, self-guided fashion. - Detailed troubleshooting diagnostic videos and fixes for a variety of common swing issues. - Power & Distance course. - Shot-Shaping Grid course. - Ball Flight Fixes course. - Indoor Training Program. - The quick-start “Get Out and Go Play” program. - A Members' Forum where you can ask specific swing-related questions, interact with others in the SagutoGolf community, and suggest new content ideas. - Access to all exclusive paid RU-vid channel members-only content at no additional charge. - Discounted rate on my V1 Swing Video Analysis service. - Ongoing additions of new professional instruction content. I love your instruction and your enthusiasm Tom. I have been working on maintaining my weight on the front foot (55/45) since you mentioned it a number of your lessons back with VERY good results (no divots just a couple of blades of grass). I have been told that on my bad shots I seem to be reverse pivoting which I guess could be due to collapsing my left/front leg/turning hips too much or could be moving my head forward? any ideas/swing thoughts on how not to occasionally reverse pivot? I am another bloody Australian so am to far away to see you in person otherwise I would in a heartbeat.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 года назад
Hi Peter, Since we’re keeping the weight forward throughout the swing, the only way to reverse pivot is if some of our weight leaks into the trail side. There are some channel videos that address this to some extent, but really the best opportunity for learning is the SagutoGolf online school For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. Great video, that's one of my problems when I when I try to load up on my take away. ( Thinking I will gain more distance, to a certain point) I can tell when I hit about 1/2 - inch behind the ball, that I'm swaying too much. Next time Im at range I'll try this drill. I can even try it in the yard lol. So one of the things I have to careful of is to not get over to much of the ball or been my knees too much in the downswing causing me to take those deep divots, instead of those dollar vivids. Thanks

You are definitely not alone with getting stuck on your trail side, Thomas. Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness. You will likely be amazed at how a centered swing will really crisp up your ball striking.
