I’ve experimented a lot with his NLS chain. Yes, it adds low end/low mid thickness, and some nice top end. BUT- and very importantly, it makes transients a bit mushy and flubby. It’s the Mike instances, specifically. Plus, it uses lots of CPU. I’d still use it on an instrument bus- but not drum or mix bus. I’m getting better results using a few instances of NLS Buss on Spike mode on my whole mix. Listening in a pro studio, fully treated with ATC SCM50ASLs and 2 15” subs

Well said champ. I don't use it all on my drum buss all times either.

He adds the Transients back on two sends

@@xxspinzzxx still, it changes the material too drastically. If you have a kick that should be super short and punchy, this NLS chain makes it thick and mushy.

Please explain this is he putting multiple copies of NLS on his drumbuss?

Yes 8 in a row and like in the video the order goes Mike,Spike,Mike,Mike,Mike,Spike,Nevo,Mike

Yeah I.jordan is right. But note on the first mike he drives it half a DB .5
@KDNguyenn

smaller increments on the plugins as a whole create a better sounding mix than pushing more db into just one or two

He originally started doing it because he was sent a rough and this was the drum bus and he thought it was crazy and had to be a mistake by the original engineer but when he removed the bus he said the drums lost all of their life and its been part of his process every since

Is he using NLS bus as an aux ? Or is he running drums through it first then hitting his drum bus
@mixbygygyondbeat1295
@mixbygygyondbeat1295 Год назад
He is running them on the drum buss

@@mixbygygyondbeat1295 So it’s an extension of the drums bus ? So which one comes first ?

@@chrisdavis9334 He puts it as a send aux on the drum buss and runs parallel.

@@Yannickmyk The C Drums dark red channel/bus/aux (which is a Pro Tools Master Fader channel - this is the type of channel it is) is before the C Drums Bus (light red) channel (signal wise) below it. He uses the Pro Tools Master Fader type channel with the same Bus inputs as it adds 10 more inserts to the original Aux/Bus channel, these inserts come before the original Bus/Aux channel.

Jaycen actually had an offer from waves to make his plugin based on that trick. He refused so I believe doing that NLS chain is the easiest way so far :P@@SenfSenferson
