Stumbled on this conversation because I found an interview on Shahroo online. Can’t begin to tell you how insightful and empowering this conversation is for me. Thank you both. So glad I’ve come across this 🙂

This is truly a masterclass that speaks to both my mind and my heart. I’m blown away! I will listen many more times. This would be a fabulous series of fireside chats. THANK YOU both for generously allowing us to witness the brilliance of the combination of your symbiotic knowledge. New fan girl here. 🥰

@@drheathermckeeit was so obvious. I had just finished telling a friend about Shahroo and how she could find her interviews on RU-vid. I warned her that the only down side was that the interviewers seemed to become invested in their own story instead of actually interviewing Shahroo. Then I came across this dialogue and saw that it was a REALLY GOOD conversation between two friends. You really complement and reinforce each other. I really appreciate the contributions from both sides in your dialogue. Exactly what I happen to need at this point in my own attempts at change. Please keep sharing. You guys get it. And I desperately need to hear sane, real people talking. It is one of my tools. It was generous of both of you to let the public be privy to your conversations. Thanks again.

So glad you ladies recorded this conversation as friends for our benefit! ❤❤❤ I have always been active and really enjoy moving, running half marathons also at my heaviest. So you really spoke to me when you spoke about depriving yourself of movement when you’re not on a diet. Cycling, running and swimming in the ocean is a real treat for me, it is where I feel my best (no matter how much I weigh). My issue is overeating and I feel like these types of conversations will steer me in the right direction! Thank you! ❤

Thanks Heather. I wish you'd let us hear a bit more from Shahroo, would've loved to hear her thoughts more, but the informal style is very nice.

@@drheathermckee what about the habit of “people pleasing “ - approval seeking - needing to be validated etc and exploring what’s underneath these habits - usually fear of rejection etc - just a thought 😀

@@helenmckillen4340 thanks for such a great suggestion, this really taps into the playoff between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation and social support i.e. doing things for external reasons/others, vs. because it truly matters to you via. instrumental support i.e. engaging others in ways in which they can best support you, thanks for the suggestion!

So what DID she actually eat / not work to lose the weight? When I decide to fuck it, not diet, not worry about what I eat, I gain like crazy. When I try on a diet, even if i dont manage to lose much and fail a million times, at least it stops me gaining. I accept that I will need to be 'on a diet' for the rest of my life, just like I have to brush my teeth every day, clean my house, etc. I'd rather feel deprived than be fat. Its just a price to pay. I don't like working and it often feels like punishment, but if I want money to live, working is an inconvenience I have to manage. Ditto to achieve and keep a slim, healthy body.

I think she's confusing weight loss with maintenance. If we have a serious problem, whatever it is, we first need a drastic intervention to correct the issue: hair horrendously matted - untangle, intense conditioning, THEN maintain health of hair; car broken down - major engine work, THEN regular maintenance. I NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT for my health, not cos I'm a bad person. I NEED a diet, be told what to do, to correct the problem first. It is not the diet that's the problem; its me needing to strengthen myself to be able to stick to one. My next one is gonna be a liquid one. It's not MEANT to be life-long! I need quick results. I've never GOT to maintenance to have to worry about it; let me get to goal FIRST, then I'll focus on maintenance. All this chat and she's never actually told us HOW she lost all the bloody weight!!
