The secret to understanding Jesus' last words

Did Jesus doubt God? Moments before he died of crucifixion, he uttered some confusing words; "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34). At first it seems like Jesus had a crisis of faith or thought God had abandoned him to die alone on the cross. But the words Jesus spoke actually come from another source; he was actually reciting something that people in the crowd would have recognized. Understanding where Jesus' words originate from unlocks the reason Jesus said them AND what he was really trying to say. This unusual approach to Bible study investigates Jesus' famous last words, which might reveal something surprising about who he is and why he died willingly on the cross.

GOD and The Holy Spirit had to turn their back on Jesus, so GOD could pour out his wrath on Jesus, and he could suffer the penalty for all of us, and then be righteously judged. Jesus had never been separated from The Father, so this was truly the most painful part for Jesus. Also, once the last lamb was sacrificed, at about 3 pm, the priest would hold out his arms and yell “IT IS FINISHED.” Jesus meant this, in the fullest and true manner. God Bless You All In Jesus Name.

That's a great observation about the sacrifice at 3 pm. I'm sure that has to be part of the meaning too, and why the time is included in the gospels. Thanks for sharing that!

All the way around Jesus felt that way David was just expressing it all the way around

Yeah I'm sure he probably did experience some of those feelings too. Just a lot more goes into it than I originally realized

That's pretty cool. Verse 8 of that Psalm was what the scoffers said to him when they said "he can save others, but can't save himself" (Matt 25:42). I never saw the connection between the Psalm and the crucifixion quotes!

Oh I forgot about that one! Yeah, there are so many connections, it's really eerie! Amazing to read them side by side

For my person i do not think of anything negative, i lack emotion, for me i think God showed us how we would feel when we are seemingly abandoned by God and who knows God truly abandoned me or im not praying enough and God has handed me over to sin. I never doubted Christ when i first heard "My God My God why have you abandoned me" i guess youre more emotional than me. But this does complete i was already okay with before. I have already been satisfied with what was.

That is good! I think I was only around age 14 or 15 when I first read that passage and was bothered by it. Luckily it didn't really hurt my faith or anything, I just wrestled with it for awhile. But I stuck it out and eventually found an answer I was satisfied with.

Jesus (God) gave himself for all humanity past present and future. Sin or eternal separation from God was destroyed on the Cross... In an instant.. The Holy trinity of God was the Key... God Father God Holy Spirit God the Son... I am a Spirit I have a Soul and i live in a Body... A Tri part being...

To reference a passage of scripture we use the name of the book, the chapter and verse. The Jews would use a portion of scripture to reference an entire passage. Jesus was referencing the entire Psalm. I think that in the notes of the MT the scribes would reference another section of scripture by using a single word. We can't seem to memorize all the books of the Bible. The Jews were immersed in the in it. Please fact check me on this, I'm not a scholar but from my reading I understand this to be the case

Yeah that's something I've read as well, it makes sense if they had so much memorized but it certainly makes things more difficult for us today! It's fun to uncover those connections though. I've even seen a few places where writers referenced parts of Genesis by using a key phrase or a few key words rather than a full verse or passage.
