I'm really glad they didn't do the trypophobia design, even as someone who loves body horror. If they did do it I'd hope they'd allow for an alternative for those who suffer from tryophobia.

I actually had a dream this night about the 1.19 update. I was just mining for diamonds and found the biome, i fell down and the sculk sensor went off and i ran to the biome. There were like 5 wardens and i hid, found a chest, and found 40 enchanted iron ingots, an enchanted diamond chestplate and some nice iron boots. (don't ask) it was a double chest (again, don't ask) and i created a perfect distraction when they ran after me. I just placed down a jukebox and played chirp on it and ran away... Then i woke up

The reason they called it the “warden” is because of its purpose. What “warden” means is somebody in charge of protecting something or to take care of something.

i wonder why they would consider designing the sculks after a phobia. then, the people with the fear might not want to interact with the sculks since it triggers their phobia.

Seeing the Warden rise up from the ground in the Minecon clip was the scariest thing I've ever seen come out of Minecraft. You literally can't hide or run which makes it so scary

I love this style of video presentation for design concepts! The sense of humor shows the mindset of the dev team is still very much in tune with the community, something both unique to this game, and essential to its success. Well done!

a very cool video! Something I wanted to suggest about the Warden is that if the player is X number of blocks above the warden (Ex: in a 4 tower) he can hit the ground breaking some blocks, or throwing the player backwards causing him to fall from the tower with the knockback.

We had Jean for the Ender Dragon, Simmons for the Wither, and now William for the Warden. Nice.

New rare mob that can spawn exclusively in the Deep Dark: A skeleton with no weapons, named simply "Narrator".

Something I’ve noticed If you look within the mouth or holes of the beta Warden, the same texture for the End Portal/Gateway can be seen. The Warden and the Hollow it was supposed to be affiliated with could’ve been connected at one point with The End. Some of the other beta designs look like concepts for the Watcher from Minecraft Dungeons, an Enderman littered with eyes on its body. Just some things to think about as I’ve been studying Willia- I mean.. the Warden.

So we got, Steve, Alex, Jean The Enderdragon, Simmons The Wither, and finally William The Warden. I love bosses having actual names, even if it's not in game, it's cool!

Please make the dancing Warden real, maybe I could use that in a 1920s video or something 👀

I really like the design of the hollow mob (especially it's crystal and moss varients) and those trypaphobia designs ought to be part of whatever the next dimension is. they're very unique and i can totally envision them being part of a more unique dimension in order to distinguish itself from the other 3. A "rot" dimension sounds absolutely amazing.

Can't wait for the deep dark. I'm going to be constantly on edge walking around that place.

My theory is that this ancient city had an ancient civilization living in it (ancient builders) and the warden was like a protector or golem (hence the name Warden) .But the sculk infection infected it killing everyone but the warden survived but corrupted by the sculk.

I really like the third sculk desing i hope they add it in the future like just a corruption and mobs will be able to corrupt if they stay here for too long

This makes me wonder if they are teasing that the Warden might be soothed by music from noteblocks, jukeboxes and maybe a future instruments item. Maybe a goat horn could be used in a way to interact with the warden

With this new update coming to Minecraft, I feel a Minecraft dungeons Deep Dark DLC would be amazing seeing how much structure is being put into the caves and having so many cave themed mobs! If this doesn’t happen, then I’m still happy we’re getting this in the main game!!!

Mobs like William, frogs have special animations. Frogs have a slow step and their feet movements are more detailed to match it's slow movements. William gets a buncha new animation, especially walking one. Unlike the other mobs just walk with just army and leg patterns the same. Is the developer team planning to update their animations? Could be a simple fix of how the Vindicator, Piglin and Brute have a unique sword holding arm when they spot a target. About the breeding, turtles lay eggs on sand, frogs lay eggs in water, and bees just pop out a tiny bee? Doesn't really make sense isn't it? Because this is the caves and cliffs maybe it's time the bats deserve some love. Those are some of my ideas for the game! No, this is not some sort of complaint or criticism to the Minecraft game. Thank you for understanding!

Idea, if you play a Jukebox near a Warden, it grows engraged and begins smashing down all the blocks around it. However, if you manage to nametag a Warden as 'William' and then play a Jukebox (in that order) it will dance. Once.

Imagine getting a new dimension with TERRIFYING nightmare fuel demon thingies. Since the deep dark is actually meant to scare the player imagine what this new dimension would be like (if we get one, fingers crossed!) Mojang, Jens, any one over there please consider adding these terrifying mobs to the new dimension if you're adding one!

I'm so glad they scrapped the trypophobia skulk blocks. I would not have been able to deal with that. Also, the early Warden designs were some serious SCP stuff. (3:34) I can't believe Mojang even considered going that route.

“The Warden” is an interesting name choice, and i’ve got a theory for that. Wardens, like wardens of prisons, are built to keep things in. To protect something and make sure it’s preserved, like prisoners in their jail cell. A warden in this context would want to keep their inmates alive and in order, in check. In Minecraft’s context, i propose the Wardens purpose is to protect whatever’s in the Deep Dark- which could be extremely valuable seeing as there’s an entire creature(s) to this cause. An ancient civilization dwelled long ago beneath the ground and harnessed their surroundings, or the power of the Skulk to their advantage. They manufactured and created protectors (the warden) and other systems for their civilization. Much like how Villagers create Iron Golems to protect their village. As the last of the Deep Dark died, their creations were still left behind and thriving from their remains. This is what the Warden protects. This civilization must’ve been adapted to the dark since it’s so hard to see and it’s tech is based on smell and sound rather than sight… I’m curious to see more lore and detail put into the Deep Dark soon!

Mob idea: The Grunt. Details: The Grunt has 50 HP and does 3.5 damage, it is a spider-like creature that naturally spawns in sculk growths. It cannot smell, so it relies on its hearing to find pray. Upon death, there is a small chance that nearby blocks will be converted into sculk blocks. Sculk Shrieker changes: There will now be two possible outcomes for activating a sculk shrieker, either a Warden will spawn, or 10+ Grunts will spawn.

I wish there were chests for each wood type. The warped wood chests would look absolutely incredible in the deep dark!!

My idea of the stalker is that it could be a mob that hunts you down under a condition (like not sleeping, entering a specific territory or looting something). The player would have an effect that would allow the stalker to find them no matter what. It would be very agile and able to traverse any environment such as water, lava or small spaces. It would only stop after being killed or if the effect stopped, where it would just sit there motionless until the effect activates again.

William is an old name based of the germanic name William-helm. And wil-helm , and by extension Williams definition is strong/passionate protector I’m guessing this is intentional so well done mojang

Just an idea to make wanting to beat the warden more enticing. Get the pieces of the disc, beat 3 wardens for a specialized drop that all combines for an achievement of an expanded inventory similar to the backpack mod that is only accessible with this achievement.

Seeing the early Warden designs gave me an idea for a texture pack- a Horror themed pack with all of the mobs and blocks having early or scarier designs.

Marilla and Narrator make the most eerie yet entertaining duo ever, don't they

THEORY: i now believe the the deep dark absolutely has no ties to the end but it’s actually the devs way of preparing to make a entirely new dimension for the next update! from the way the warden and the Sculk were designed and described in the concept art, this new dimension could possibly be a horror/elderich dimension that is heavily tied to undead aspects and it’s name could be the hollow. The dimension could be the entire reason of how the undead and souls came to be, from the Sculk catalyst being confirmed to be made from bones, the warden actually being a rotting corpse reanimated by the Sculk as well as it containing souls in its chest, the previous halloween-like name deepslate had that is a part of the deep dark, grimstone, how Sculk is spread through the death of a mob or player!

Mojang should make the Warden drop something upon death, such as it's heart, since you can hear it's heart beating. So when it dies, all that is left is it's heart. Also, when you look inside it's ribs, you can see the faces of shrieking souls, so when the Warden dies, there should be soul particles floating on it's death spot, meaning that some of the souls are free, but some aren't. And the non-freed souls are still stuck in the Warden's heart, so when you hold it's heart, there should be soul particles floating around, just like how the souls float at the spot of the Warden's death. Hope this helps :D

They could also just add the stalker as another mob that exist in the deep dark, another species of warden that evolved differently. The stalker would prioritize reach and ability to camouflage.
