Happy Friday, everybody! Today, we return to the world of Warcraft to take a look at the Azuremyst Isles and the naaru spaceship Exodar that crash landed here shortly before the Burning Crusade. Now if only Blizz would update Azuremyst, so that it would reflect the fact, that the Vindicaar is built from the salvaged parts scattered across the isles.

I think it's heavily implied that the majority of the 25,000 years of exile which the Draenei had were spent in "cryo-pods" i.e. suspended animation and that Draenei do not, in fact, have lifespans that* long. But this was retconned in later xpacs probably b/c the new writers legitimately forgot to read the quest text in Azuremyst isle. Draenei having natural lifespans of less than or equal to several hundred years is supported by Auchindoun! a massive* tomb structure which by itself must hold far more Draenei than escaped Argus (that is to say; Draenei on Draenor* were born, lived, and died by the 10s of thousands).

"They were fleeing from the Burning Legion, and the ship was damaged during the journey. It ended up crash-landing in the area known as Azuremyst Isle on Azeroth. The exact reason for the crash isn't explicitly detailed in the game's lore, but it served as a starting point for the Draenei's presence on Azeroth"

I think that considering how far down you have to travel to get into the Exodar, along with the fact that there is a staircase in the Vault of Lights leading upwards to the 'back entrance' of the city, it's more likely that the area that survived is actually the lower levels, and the engines and other technical areas were originally situated above the residential areas. I find it interesting that that staircase is in very good repair, actually, and opens out into an area with no other parts of the ship, suggesting it was always external. Perhaps it originally docked to the 'escape pod', or some other kind of satellite vessel, at that entrance? Given that it's a spaceship, not intended to exist on land, and that its sister ships don't have flat bottoms so *couldn't* land safely anyway, there's no particular reason that it should be organized like a real life seafaring ship with engines below decks. Also, power flows upwards from the Seat of the Naaru to the top of the ship, suggesting, though not confirming, that power is generated below and used above. The entrance hall is in such bad repair that it is easy to imagine it originally didn't even go in the same direction. In its current configuration, it would potentially impinge on the area of the missing 4th wing, lowering its possible ceiling height, though it's hard to say for sure without an outside view. Alternative theory: this feels like a bit of a stretch, but maybe the main piece of the Exodar is actually itself two separate pieces: the inner section and the outer (front entrance) sections broke partially apart and are further away, horizontally and mainly vertically, from each other now than they originally were. The missing 4th wing actually opened out to the main entrance hall directly, and the maintenance areas filled out the missing 3rd or so of the circle made by the other 4 wings. The current entrance hall's door on the raised platform originally entered into those areas, but most of the corridors collapsed and the current hallway is essentially assembled from rubble. The amount of energy conduits in that area and the general lack of space compared to how open the residential areas are makes me suspect that its original purpose was technical rather than as a main walkway. I don't like this theory that much because it feels a bit improbable for the ship to break apart in that way without either section completely collapsing, and the entrance hallway doesn't actually look like it originally branched out, except possibly for the one section with the big hole in the wall, and the architecture looks like it was intended to curve like that. The floor however doesn't seem to have been intended to go up at such a steep angle, and some of the columns are slanted oddly. It seems meant to have climbed at maybe 2/3 of the angle it currently has.
@killerbee.13
@killerbee.13 9 месяцев назад
Also, this isn't actually important at all, but I only just noticed that the Seat of the Naaru's central column is not centered in the space, and the staircases into the 4 wings don't point directly at it. I originally noticed that it wasn't centered on the map and wondered if it was a weird mismatched perspective thing but no, it's just actually like that. That kinda bothers me now.

It was said that these crystals can absorb nether, which permeates all creation, and convert it to actual usable energy. Also making the whole ship a trandimensional structure. Therefore the whole ships are carved from the giant crystal itself. It takes a century to make one of these, but it can take ages to actually find the "geode" from which the ships will be made from. The crystals themselves can warp on their own, making it incredibly difficult to mine, let alone find. The restriction rings that are placed around them prevent them from being energized from outside sources and unwantedly warp away. When carved and polished in the proper way the Naruu taught the Eredar, they can be warped into specific places in the cosmos. The Geode itself is amazingly resilient though. It can withstand planet crashes when its warp aura is fully energized, since it repels everything. Makes you think that perhaps this ship went through some sub-standard patchwork before the warp. Since those chunks of crystal around the island should not have splintered from the ship. Usually the other systems and buildings attached around the geode are the ones to sever from it in a collision.
@Jediwarlock
@Jediwarlock 8 месяцев назад
Great lore additions... thank you! :) It's possible the "Geode" partially broke because of the Blood Elf interference or if its warp drive was already damaged and couldn't protect the ship.

@@Jediwarlock Argunite has amazing properties. It can adapt to all types of energy, Arcane, Holy, even Blood. It could be the most coveted mineral in the WoW cosmos but its uses are so limited in game. Makes you think about the secrets of the Auchenai order and their soul-crystal technology. Or the very nature of Argus' planetary composition. It's native element wasn't Fel and yet it's considered the "Death" planet. So much to think about. I had a suspicion that the Exodar is a bit bigger than it looks, but it was confirmed when I looked at a minimap and realised the backdoor exit is pretty much in the middle of the city. Using the two entrances as comparison points one can overlay the minimap and the city map. Also, compared to the Exodar, the Tempest Keep ships have a much smaller exterior/entrance.

I personally don't believe the theory that I'm about to propose, but the hight of the Exodar might be the evidence, that the Sunfury were modifying the ship, or perhaps stripping the of the Tempest Keep. As you mentioned in your video, the Bloodwatch tower looks like a manaforge, which perhaps all the ships have had at some point, but were stripped off of them, except the Exodar. Though why it wasn't stripped from the Exodar and the other three ships look intact is a hole in this theory, hence why I don't believe in it... ...Unless Harbinger Skyriss really plays a bigger role than we all think and wanted Draenei to get out of the Outland, counting that Sunreavers will sabotage the flight and open a portal for reinforcement of all kind, including all the void creatures and the void corrupted Ethereum from the Netherstorm. Hmmm...

That is a good question! It is possible that since Azeroth is fairly central cosmologically it is something of a conduit that many cosmic pathways/dimensions cross through. :)

@@JediwarlockThe Outland Draenei had already been friendly w/ the 2nd War Alliance Expedition and knew about Azeroth. But it may be a slight inconsistency in that I don't think the Draenei on the Exodar planned on heading to Azeroth (despite it making sense).

I disagree on the size of the ship. We know that blizz scales down to fit things in the game, that includes many large buildings and structures that make up raids and dungeons. Even the sword of Sargeras should be so big that we can't even see the hilt from the ground. I think the ships in Netherstorm are much, much bigger than what we see in game. Even the Exodar, which is considered a city, would be many times bigger than what we actually set foot in.

I think blood mist is meant to be the idea of you slaying hostility on the isle, or hostility on the isle slaying you. Lore wise I feel as though everything that happens there happens almost like a recent expedition after all problems on Azure isle had been dealt with. Similar to Eversong woods and ghostlands. That being said I reckon it's likely that the dreanei already had multiple Alliance proxies assisting them by the time they set out to encentivizing explorers and fledgling heroes to deal with problems.
