My favorite "secret" about magic bands are some of the limited edition bands make touch points light up different colors and play different sound effects.
Mine didn't even make it to the mailbox. Literally stood at the end of my driveway and took it right from the mailman, opened it up and put it on before I got back in the house. Wore it for 2 weeks prior to even packing my suitcases lol. Soooo yea. Lol carry on.
You didn't mention that some limited edition Magic Bands once used entering the Parks has custom sounds once scanned entering the Parks. My Thanos Infinity Gauntlet band has as pretty cool sound..
Christopher Smith So true! Those are awesome...the only bad thing is once there’s a new upgrade, those stop working. I have one of the first special edition Star Wars, and the sounds and lights no longer work. 😭
TheTandumbs keep checking! I would check daily since they launched this deal back in May and was finally able to order the bands we wanted over the July 4th holiday. I missed out on completing our order 3 times prior, so I understand your frustration. Just make a mental note to check the app a time or two each day and be patient!
Ha! Sadly, great analogy. It is a full-time job if you want to try to get one of the special bands. Nothing "magical" about that experience. They have created a train wreck. I hope you were able to get the ones you want.
First of all, I loved the paper fast passes. I had it down to a science and you could get as many as you wanted or if you had to leave the park you could just hand off your unused passes to some else. My wife had a BB-8 magic band last time we went and every time she entered a park we heard the BB-8 beeps. It was cool .
One thing you should have mentioned: Magic Bands are a Disney World only feature. They do not work at Disneyland, or any of the other Disney parks around the world.
David Cervera Not true; we were at Aulani last month and they were in the initial test phase and should be complete in the next year. Our door and register purchases (with p.i.n.) just had to be "tappped" by the room card-same as the magic band.
One of the “secrets” that shocked us was on the “it’s a small world “ ride. We were on very late one night and as we got to the end, both of our names were on the goodbye sign that is done in several foreign languages. Freaked us out a little until we realized it must have been the magic band “tracking” us, lol!
Thats very true we asked a our hotel cast member what time the last bus was. They replied with they will never leave you behind . They said they know exactly where you are on site and also if you've come back onto hotel resort .Big brother eat your heart out
In case it wasn't clear: "Unlike the original MagicBands, who become just another colorful plastic bracelet after their batteries die, MagicBand 2 has an innovative removable center puck where all of the magic is stored. This way should you find a really awesome design dedicated to your favorite ride, character, snack, or year of your visit, you can keep using that outer part of the band for ever and ever, and you'll only need to replace the magic puck on future trips." -DisneyParks Moms Panel
2 years ago my husband bought me the 35 Epcot anniversary band and we were using it to go on some of the rides in Epcot. The monitors will actually light up in a rainbow colors that surprised even the Disney cast members. We've had it happen with my husband's Pandora band in Animal Kingdom as well. I have several bands but the 35 year one is still my favorite!
Magic bands are the greatest thing that has happened to planning for Disney World trips! My favorite tip is to buy a cheap pack of wrist sweatbands in different colors to wear under your magic band. It helps keep your wrist comfortable on those hot or rainy days! Happy Disney planning, everyone!
That’s a great idea! I’ve been to Disney World multiple times and I’ve always hated how uncomfortable the magic bands can get when you’re sweaty (or just got off Splash Mountain lol) . I’ll definitely be using this tip the next time I go.
I watched another video on the magic bands and they said they should work a long time for tapping into the parks, hotel, ordering food. The battery for signaling the sign at It's a small world and Rockin Roller Coaster will only last a couple years.
D. F. I know! Too bad that at Disneyland although you have paper fast pass, you can’t do that neither because you need your entrance ticket to redeem a fast pass!
Last time I have been in WDW was in 1997, Disneyland in 2012, no plans to go anytime soon, but I have not missed one of the dfb videos in the last year.. 😉
Me. You would not catch me in the parks. I live 5 minutes from Hersheypark, so there’s that but Disney is way too expensive, overrated and way too commercial. We took our kids there before the bands and fast passes and we got one 4 rides all day. It was a waste. My older son went with my parents once. That was enough. Give me a beach, a cruise or a tropical location so I can relax on my vacation, do what I want when I want and not have every minute planned out in advance. Yet...I never miss an episode of this. I think I like seeing what what others waste $ on.
@@cherylboyanowski5452 why you watching vids on disney of its a rip off? 😂😂 I'd understand if you were on the fence but those are serious adjectives for somebody nonchalantly checking out park advice 😂😂
I’m going to Disney world tomorrow for the first time to celebrate my birthday, I am so excited 😆 I’ve been watching your videos for the past week and they’ve been really helpful, thank you so much!!!!
Leslie Delgado there’s one off of International drive near Universal at the Premium Outlet mall and one near Disney Springs but I’m unfamiliar with that one.
One of the first things I noticed about the charging options for the Magic Bands is that if you charge things to your room using your Band, the charges go to your reserved card on the morning you check out, rather than the day you use it. If that card is a debit card, you might reach your debit card limits for a 24 hour period on the check-out day. If you use Mobile ordering on the Disney experience for dining out, the charge goes to your bank account immediately (another reason to use that fantastic option.) We tend to use our physical cards for payment at shops and restaurants instead of using the Band, because it's easier to keep track of our bank account that way, especially if your bank offers online banking. Debits show up right away instead of hitting the account at one time the day you leave the resort. The only times the Band-charging option is helpful for us is when we are at the water parks. We use the Bands to pay for food and drinks there when our wallets are in the locker.
The main thing I'm taking from this is, you have a limit on how much you can spend on card? I have a limit on what I can withdraw in 24 hours but I could spend thousands a day on card, my bank would call me immediately to ask what dodgy stuff I'd done to get that much but it's allowed.😂😂
@@janeholgate7220 My bank tops off daily spending at 500 I think unless you call them and let them know. Some banks do it to protect against fraudulent charges.
I put a credit card at the hotel and have the band charge to the room. Then, I use Disney gift cards (that I purchased at a discount) to pay off the hotel room charges the day before I check out. If I make any more charges after the room bill has printed, I can go back to the front desk or even call the front desk to have the charges go to the gift cards if I want. The debit card is not a safe way to charge anything, from what I have learned. If you have incorrect charges on a credit card, you are protected and have methods for getting charges reversed. Debit cards may be treated by some banks and credit unions as cash, so you might not be able to recoup all your losses if there is any fraudulent activity. (I learned this the hard way in a non-Disney situation.) As a result, I don't ever use debit cards on the hotel charge account.
@@michelle1 Great idea! I'm using gift cards to pay off my hotel before I go, but didn't think about using it to pay off charges on my bill while there. I was just going to use the gift cards to make purchases as I go, but the magic band is so much more convenient. Do you just go to the front desk the day before check out to pay with your gift cards?
Once I got off space mountain, at the shop at the end, I made a magic band with an amazing machine! You get to chose a character, or something else, and choose the colour! I think it’ll cost a bit more.. but it’s so cool :)
If you have lots of active Magic Bands on your account, it can take a long time for your hotel room to sync with the band you might have on. I have learned to only have 3 or 4 Magic Bands active on My Disney Experience at a time to combat this problem.
Y’all I found a new Disney secret I’ve never seen before! So if you leave the tower of terror store and look at the displays of mannequins outside you will see the one on your right shows a specific little story of someone trying to hide a MURDER. I had never noticed this before but just looking at the seen is unsettling, check it out!
Just a heads up for anyone not based in the US: If you're getting a band through My Disney Experience and you're coming from overseas, they won't post it to you. My partner and I are heading over in October from Australia and, though we've already picked our bands, we'll have to collect them from the front desk on arrival.
I just got back from my Disney World trip yesterday and we used all your tricks! I took notes on them for like 5 months and it was all so worth it 💕 THANK YOU SO MUCH! Side note: My magic band fell off on Rockin Roller coaster but luckily someone turned it in
my favorite use for my growing collection of magic bands - remember those paper chains you made in kindergarten? that's what I do with my magic bands...we chain them all together and decorate the tree :-)
@@maddie_1018 we are annual pass holders, stay on property and there are four of us...so before we started declining the bands, we were getting eight every time we went...they add up fast
David Jones Have a great time! I came back on Sunday from going to all four parks, even Magic kingdom twice. I binged and took notes on these videos for like 5 months 😹 Warning: it is VERY hot. The humidity will kill you.
If you want a custom magic band save your sanity and pay the extra $15 in the park to get the one you want. Trying to get one on the app is like buying a 70 inch television on Black Friday.

I can't wait to get Magic Bands for 2020. We will b getting Character Bands. I'm getting ELSA. Getting a Magic keeper for my 3yr old. My mom Loves Minnie Mouse. My Hubby likes Star Wars.
If you can get through the glitches and you have a hotel reservation or haven't ordered your annual pass magic band yet, Disney is offering Limited Release magic bands at a discount, too. All pre-order magic bands in conjunction with a hotel stay or annual pass are $15 off the regular price, so LR bands are $15 and regular designed bands are $10, single color bands are free.
Hands down my favourite RU-vid channel. I like your videos before even watching them because I know they'll be amazing. We're visiting WDW for the FIRST TIME next month and I'm so excited. I learnt a lot from your channel.
My family always gets magic band skins. You can get them off of several websites and sometimes you can design your own skin. We usually do this because they don't ship the magic bands internationally but we still want nice magic bands.
Also, no information is actually stored on the band itself. It’s just a number that links to your account so if it gets lost, you never have to worry about someone hacking your band and stealing your info. It’s all stored on Disney’s servers.
I ordered the plain magic bands through the hotel. You can customize it by asking to put your name on it. Also my mom and I bought some cool cheap stickers from Etsy. They glitter and glow in the dark! You can even just get a sticker to cover the puck part. I just need cheap bandits next! I want the nightmare before Christmas bandits but 20$ for 3 little bandits is a bit pricey. I would’ve paid 10-15$ on Amazon’s do Disney it’s 20 plus :(
I went to disney a couple months ago. We didn't tell them ahead of time that we were going to use the disney buses to get from the airport to our disney resort (we planned to use an uber but surge pricing was CRAZY). We were able to board the disney bus anyways though. all we had to do was tap our magic bands on the thing and we were good to go. No issues
Great video, but I thought one of the secrets of the magic band was the "rumor" that Disney can use the band to track where you go throughout the park and use that data for their marketing purposes. At the end of the day, it's easy to assume that they can trace everywhere you went, the time and what you did etc. If it's true, it's an ingenious way to collect data on every visitor to the Walt Disney World property. It may be safe to say, they can also be used to locate missing persons within the park by accessing where they were last and what time. This information may not be public knowledge, but it would be a waste of technology it isn't used in such a manner. So the info may be in some "disney database" somewhere, but it's most likely accessible immediately when needed.
They can track you through the park, not rumor, fact. I have pictures of that being done (a single person heat map in MK) during a conference I attended a couple years ago for splunk.
The super fine print says “You are agreeing to an experiment with other 3rd party tech companies. It knows when you poo, it knows when your …. anywhere. I don’t believe it’s a “conspiracy theory” I believe it is an amazing way for massive companies to implement invading your privacy worldwide. C’mon, don’t be sheeple !!!
We always order new magic bands each time we go, sort of like a souvenir from our vacation. I keep the entire family's collection locked in the safe with other priceless items
I'm hoping Disneyland starts using magic bands. It looks like they will bc the new fastpass kiosks at some ride have the NFC terminal and the new registers in Galaxy's Edge have the magic band terminal on their POS Registers.
I live in Florida and I have guest passes to Disney and it’s like 15 minutes away from my house. I can understand why so many people come and are amazed by Disney now haha, it seems magical.
We have Magic bands from July 2013 we use them yearly still! No problems. I do deactivate them as soon as we leave the park and don’t activate till we are at the park.
Just a few notes about the Magical Express and unlinking your magic band... my family and I landed at MCO (Orlando Airport) and had plans to rent a car (2017 trip). We got to the rental car place (Hertz) and they had no record of our reservation. My Mom had the reservation printed, but yet they still denied having us in the system. If we wanted to rent a car at that moment, it would have been almost $600 up front. All because, according to them, we didn't reserve beforehand. So we walked to the Magical Express which was on the same floor, explained the situation, and handed them our Disney reservations to show that we indeed were staying on property. We had our Magic Bands ready to go too. They told us that as long as we had a valid reservation on property, we could board the bus. For unlinking your magic band, if you go with a family member or friend who doesn't live with you and you link everything together, make sure to unlink it as soon as you get back home. I went on a BFF trip a few years ago and never took my friend's name out of my account. I made reservations for 2018 for my family and they sent our "Welcome Back" papers to her house, even though I booked it under my name and address. As fate would have it, I am no longer friends with that person, so when the time came to book my 2019 family vacation I called Disney three separate times after I booked, on purpose, so that I would get a different agent each time. Sure enough, my friend's address was still in the system under my name. The third time I called, however, it didn't show up which means Disney finally removed it from my file.
I've been wondering about reassigning... my dad passed away, and I wanted to reassign his magic band to my sister. But this means it will be his forever.
One note about the magical express: apparently you don't have to sign up for this ahead of time. I recently spoke to a rep at WDW about this, as we are planning a trip from the beach to WDW and wanted to drive our rental car and drop off at the airport to take the bus to our hotel. She said that's no problem. We can look and pick a random flight to give them pickup info, but we can also just show up. As long as we have a resort reservation, they would accommodate us on the next available bus.
thanks for posting this video right now i am currently in the saving part of the planning stage for my trip and this video helps me quite a bit about how to use the magic bands when i get to the booking part of the planning stage.
AJ, your team and videos are awesome! Our heroes for having the best first visit this past New Year. We’re heading back in October for the Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! Thanks for everything to you all do!
This morning we saw a few of the upgrades being offered that are normally priced at $29.99 in store but being offered at $15 on MDE! Still waiting for the one I want to pop back up for our trip in September. Another great video AJ & DFB Team!
Me my wife and kids just celebrated our 200th visit to the Disney world resort! We are pass holders and don't know what I would with out our magic bands.
wow I love these so much! When I went, I got a purple one from a cast member, when we arrived in the sports all-star hotel!!! I’m heading there at the end of January for UDA nationals and I’m so excited !!
Going to Disney World in April 2020 and my last trip was spring 2012. All of this is new to me! When I was there last, there were no Magic Bands, no Beast's Castle, no Seven Dwarfs Mine, no Pandora, and of course, no Galaxy's Edge. This will be my last trip to WDW (probably) and afterwards, we may sell our Orlando timeshare. So glad for your videos AJ because we've learned so much about the parks, the restaurants, and the tips and tricks to make our last trip to WDW our most memorable. Why your last trip, you ask? We're turning 60 and our energy levels are decreasing (no kids, no grandchildren, and nieces/nephews older).
I was going to get a special magic band design, but since I wear an Apple Watch I'm just going to buy a puck holder on Amazon so I can put it on my watch band and not have to wear 2 wristbands
Since you seem to go to the animal kingdom lodge a lot could you do a video on specific rooms which is the best for views of the animals, or for that matter best rooms with room numbers for the best views at any of the hotels.
I wish you wouldn’t say that credit cards link “to” your magic band. It doesn’t. It links to your reservation at the hotel. Some people that don’t understand how it all works think their CC info can be stolen because it’s “linked to their band”.
Shannon B. I agree. I was staying off property and added a credit card to my profile thinking I could use it for dining and souvenirs. Nope, it only works for those things if you are staying on property.
A little glitchy? It is brutal!......Been trying to order the special pre-order ones for $10 for like a month (going in late August), and made several calls to Disney....and still no luck! Arggghhhhh
Same goes for me! I just ordered a regular color because my trip is in 4 weeks, then when I get there I’ll buy the special design ones at a store, but it is so frustrating.
Great, informative video! After watching, I ordered our first-ever, custom Magic Bands from the Disney Store as surprise for my wife & daughter. Going to be a very special trip! Thanks! :)
Something to note... As a Canadian family, we could not get magic bands. Disney will not ship them to Canada. We had the Memory Maker and some of the rides at Magic Kingdom only link to the magic bands (like space mountain) and you can't tap afterward.
@@flesh4lulu475 we did not stay at a Disney resort. We would have had to buy them at the park. If I would have known that you needed the magic bands to get all the ride photos, we would have purchased them.
I'm using this channel as a guide to plan a trip for 3 adults to disney. its all our first time and I like knowing the dos and donts and how things work
I wish you could link a credit card without having to stay on the property. I want a magic band but seems sorta useless if you aren’t staying on the property
@@cvn6555 I just don't know why or how Disney hasn't enable people to link a credit card to it without stay on property. Seems like a missed opportunity for them.
Actually I recently lost one on the Carousel of Progress ride. After waiting for it to circle, my band was gone. I figured I'd just use the annual pass card, but I learned one benefit to the band is the personal touches on rides. You won't see your name at Space Mountain, get your picture saved automatically with a video on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, or have any other personalized experiences such as a goodbye on It's a Small World. While the good bye was not really a big deal, not getting the photos was a loss. (I ended up consulting a CM and was able to get a replacement grey band and they were able to find my photos, but it was a big hassle.)
We were a Magic Band TEST family way back when...long before the official roll out. Amazingly, my darn original band still works! I bring it every year just to see how long the battery will last...six plus years and still functioning! Thanks for a fun video 😊
@@nikkilillard930 Nice to meet ya! It was actually fascinating to fill out all the surveys and get the special treatment from the excited cast members. Was amazing how well it all worked then and incredible how successful the bands are now! Heading there in Sept! Have fun next year!
@@kathleenmary1000 Yes it was! We even bought the charms to go on the band's. My son lost a couple because they fell off. I ended up getting a refund & was able to keep the remaining charms. I still have a few floating around here. We actually went the end of Aug beginning of Sept that year & had an amazing time! Thinking to do the same next year. Enjoy your trip & eat a dolce whip for me!
Kind of misleading with the credit card. You dont register your card to your band. You register a form of payment to your room for charging, then your Magic Band ID(s) is(are) either allowed or not allowed to charge up to whatever dollar amount you set. Each night the charges that are linked to your Magic Band ID(s) are settled to the payment type you registered. Your MagicBand is not used as a direct form of payment like Apple, Samsung or Google pay.
