One thing I will never forget is when I was 16 my family + my boyfriend at the time were staying the the contemporary resort and there was a day where I had an unbearable migraine and somehow the hotel housekeeping cast members got word that I wasn't feeling to great. I think we went out at some point in the day to go get food or something and when we came back a little Pluto plushie was sitting on the bed and the little tag on it said "get well soon". At the time I thought that was a nicest thing ever!!!

I was born in Tampa, FL. The rest of my dad's side stayed. But they live in Orlando. We eventually moved to Ohio when I was around 4/5, idky. But we'd go back pretty much every Christmas. When we'd go visit, we always dressed like we were going to visit summer. My dad's side would be like," 😅😂🤣 ok it's not that warm down here, you northerners." I remember my dad having a camera around his neck alot too. We're Asian, so I remember us joking how we'd always look like tourists... But that's ok tho. Bc we blended in. It was Disney... I think around 13, I was obsessed w/ some colorful sweater hoodie. I do remember not being sure about what to wear. In my early twenties, (2002/3) I even wore some khaki pants there 🤷🏻‍♀️. I think we always got some 3 day pass package things, idk. Other than that, I don't regret much. Although in my twenties, I do remember my dad getting mad at me for losing some tickets to see something. I was like damn dude. I've moved to NC since, far away from everyone & u still have no simma. I'll just go on a ride instead. It'll be a ok. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Twenty something I still lose track of stuff easily. Guess I can't always get mad at my kid for losing everything... At 20 something I paid my own way tho. But still hung out w/ the blood roots. I bought some pink wig there. Rip bright pink wig. Wherever you went too

My family (my wife, our two kids, my in-laws, and me) were staying at one of the economy resorts for a 10 day trip. We arrived in our room and thought it was going to be too small for all of us, but said we’ll make it work. After one night my wife and I said this was not going to be enjoyable. I went to the front desk that morning and asked if there was a way we could change rooms or move to a different hotel. They told us to enjoy our park plans for the day and would call when they had a plan for us. We spent the entire day at the Magic Kingdom discussing among the adults how much we were willing to pay for the upgrade if the staff could find one. I will never forget the phone call we received. We were sitting on Main Street waiting for the parade to start and my phone rang. We were told that they were able to find a room for all of us at Saratoga Springs. Growing up in south Florida and going to Disney annually I knew that place was way too expensive for us. The manager told us there would be no up-charge at all and it was their pleasure to help us. My opinion, they went way above and beyond and that memory will be with all of us forever.

A tip that I give to people is one that me and my friend stumbled upon while we were buzzed from margaritas at California Adventure lol. We were at the front of the line waiting for the ride to stop so we could get on and once we got into our cars and were fully strapped in (after downing half a margarita) we see that they accidentally let two extra people on and they couldn’t find a seat so they were sent back to the line, the problem was that it split a young family of 4. They had two boys who were about 7 and 4 and the little brother and mom got left out so he started crying and didn’t understand why his brother got to go on and he didn’t. So we looked at each other and immediately got out of the car and offered to go on the next turn so the family could enjoy the ride together. The cast member that was buckling kids and making sure everything was good noticed what we did and without telling us anything called a manager over...after we got off the ride the manager called us over and thanked us for our “good deed” and said “here at Disney we like to recognize good deeds when we see them, please enjoy these two full day fast passes for both parks”. It was only 11:30am and yes we may have been a bit buzzed already but we were on vacation! Lol it was the best day! Good deeds for the win!

We were headed to Indiana Jones and I happened to see a guy chatting with a cast member. He had a notebook and was trying to interpret all of the special alphabet on the wall. I was almost past so I spun around, reached into my wallet, and pulled out the decoder card from when the ride first opened. Nowadays you can find it online, but it eas pretty unknown at that time - they hadn't been printed for years and they weren't well known. Anyway, the cast member was blown away that I had it and that I took the time to share it. We got fast passes, walked to the front of the line, hugs and kissess...

Love it when things like that happen. Once we were on a flight sitting in front of a father and daughter, and she was miserable from the pressure changes with blocked sinuses. I gave the guy some of the Sudafed I had with me because I have the same issue with allergies. The stewardess slipped us a bottle of wine from first class. She went from crying to sleeping; win-win.

The secret to rope drop to fireworks is indoor shows/attractions, spacing out your fast passes, and sitting down for all 3 meals (not necessarily table service, but just finding a bench or table to sit and relax while eating your meal). Having those breaks to sit down and recharge helps!

I absolutely agree! This is how my family does Disney, or any theme park, really. We’ve done some CRAZY park hopping and been just fine. I once went to Disneyland/Universal Studios with my high school orchestra. We didn’t get the chance to do rope drop to fireworks (you know, school trip and all; it ended up being like 10am-9pm or something), but I actually ended up more tired then because everything was go go go! We had no time to sit and enjoy being there, which is a huge part of the magic by itself. Just taking the time to sit and be in Disney is an amazing feeling.

Just don't plan it during a race day when the race goes through MK. I saw so many pissed off looking parents with kids who I suspect thought they would have the park to themselves and didn't because it was Princess 1/2 marathon. Instead the park was full of people cheering and thousands of runners. Wine+Dine and Star Wars go through the Studios and Epcot in the morning instead of MK and Marathon goes through all 4 parks.

I like using the Disney shopping app. If you scan an item it'll tell you where else it's sold and if there's much in stock. That way you can see if it's only sold at that store or if it's going to be at another place you're visiting. Makes it better on deciding when to buy stuff. Also instead of getting it sent to the hotel, I always get things sent to the package pick up at the front of the park. It's much more convenient and you can pick it up faster then getting it sent to the hotel.

When I was seven my parents promised to take me to Disneyland Paris for my 10th birthday(I'm from Sweden, idk if that matters). I remember buying three souvenirs, a baseball cap, a key chain with the Eiffel tower in it and a plushie that looked like one of lady and the tramp's children. We could only stay there for one and a half days, I bought the souvenirs the first day and when we got back to start packing I saw that the cleaning staff had tucked the plush under the blanket. I asked my mom to help me write a thank you note in English and since then I've always left a note saying something like "thank you so much" or "I hope your day has been nice, but if it hasn't I hope that it gets better". I have a feeling that if I continue I'll start rambling so Imma stop
@Sam-ImbasicallyaNPC

The notes are a really sweet idea. When I go on vacation to mexico I have a bad habit of not letting the cleaning staff clean my room or change blankets everyday. @@havfunwithit I wanted to add park hopper to the last two days of my ticket only. But, they insist on adding it to all the days (4 of which I had already used) thus costing $350. Stupid for them since I did not buy it. They could have had $150 of my money, but the greed of insisting it has to apply to all days. In the age of e-tickets and magic bands, it's just pathetic. I'm done with DSW both for the $$ and the crowd/waits. It's just not worth it.
@havfunwithit

James Cook I wonder who really sponsors the DFB guide? She never really criticizes Disney. In the end her comments will get you to spend more money. If she was really being honest she would say what every experienced Disney goer knows. Fastpass does not work anymore. The parks are very overcrowded. You get one good fastpass a day, and your lucky if you can use it. The two others are good for rides you can walk on anyway. I spent a lot of time at Disney last year because my son bought me a season pass. On some days I would go to a park and it was so crowded I would leave after an hour. Two hour wait times to go on slinky dog in 100deg heat, no way. IF I go to Disney again I will stay offsite. It was 2/3 cheaper to stay at a RV park offsite. Plus you can eat much cheaper and get better food offsite. I got a burger, fry’s, onion rings, cookie and large shake at Steak and Shake for 7 bucks. And the fry’s were actually hot. Also I found I could get to the parks faster than using Disney transportation. At Fort Wilderness I would wait sometimes 40min just for the bus and you had to take two. Then the drive to the park and long walk to the gate. I could drive to the park in 20 min and get free parking with my season pass. $3150 for a standard campsite at Disney for two weeks. $1150 for a deluxe campsite at a RV park 7 miles from Disney. And the pools were better offsite. If your going to Disney twice in one year I would definitely get the season pass. I would stay offsite and eat offsite. That’s a real tip the will save you money. And I buy my souvenirs at the Disney outlet at a nearby mall. I got a mug that sold for $28 in the park for $5 at their outlet. Buy your children’s things there and give them out at the park, they will never know the difference.

Always take days off when at Disney!! Doing all 4 parks in 4 days is extremely exhausting. Spend the extra money to stay a couple more days to take breaks in between parks. I promise it will make the vacation WAY more enjoyable. You can always sleep in and go resort hopping, do Disney Springs, spend time by the pool, or even go explore Orlando!

Hi. What do you mean by resort hopping? And where is disney springs located? I've heard of that, but unsure what it is
@GennyB1128
@GennyB1128 5 лет назад
Jackie Dawson i think she meant park hopping. you can purchase special tickets that lets you ‘hop’ around all four parks in one day (personally, unless you’re only going to staying for only one day, i don’t think it’s worth it. you waste a lot of time actually traveling to the other park). as for Disney springs, it’s close to magic kingdom. It’s outside of it and it’s free. mainly made of of stores and restaurants
@cutiepie123461
@cutiepie123461 5 лет назад
Jackie Dawson almost all 25 resorts on Disney property have so much to do! For example, Animal Kingdom Lodge has safari rides and at a bunch of resorts they have Hidden Mickey hunts! And if you ask the front counter for an activity sheet, it will give you an itinerary for all the activities going on throughout the day or week! Also almost all the hotels are absolutely gorgeous and really nice to just walk around. You don’t have to stay there to go in! And Disney Springs is amazing! Disney recently redid it over the years, and it has become even more great! They have dozens of shopping places (from Sephora, to the LEGO store), dozens of restaurants, a huge bowling alley, a giant movie theater, a stage where they have performances, and so so so much more! You have to go see it for yourself! They have so much to do. I truly love Disney, and all it has to offer. Definitely worth visiting! ❤️

Back in 1996 I was at Disney World with my wife. We were at the diner (forgot the name) that showed "B" movies while you dined in cars like you were at a drive-in movie. The restaurant was in the MGM theme park. They served chicken noodle soup, grilled cheeses, and other things from our childhood. Everything was ok till the server spilled my tomato soup down the front of me. I was sort of mad because of the time it would take me to go to our off-site motel to change clothes, etc. Before I had even finished that thought a manager was at our table and offered the following: 1. Someone would drive us to our motel so i could change clothes. They took us out a back door. 2. My clothes would be cleaned and returned the next day. Also offering to pay for new clothes if there were stains. 3. Provide another day's pass. 4. A pass to cut any line. 5. A free lunch at the Brown Derby. When we got back we went to the Brown Derby but found it closed due to some important guests and security. However our Disney escort got us in. So we almost had the whole place to ourselves. The quests were the Crowned Prince of Monaco and the young Princess Stephanie. I badly wanted a photo with the Prince but was told no. However our names are listed in the large ledger where guests sign in right below the Prince's name! So that's the closest I have got to royalty. So Disney went far beyond what I expected. I wonder if they would do this today?

I went in 1976 from the UK - No Epcot, still being built. No resorts. The last was in 1994, after a dozen or so trips and looking now, the expansion has been phenomenal. The only thing I'd Never do again would be queue for 'It's a Small World'. Two hours of torture listening to the theme on the speakers. I'm happy that I got to see Captain EO!

I went to Disney Land just about the time it opened. I was a little kid, but remember it was free and you bought tickets for all the separate rides and activities. Of course, my parents wouldn't pay for but a couple rides and we didn't get to eat anything. They thought it was all extremely expensive! After I was married we went to Disney World right after the big golf ball in Epcot was up. There wasn't anything else there, but we went to that ride and it got stuck when we were up really high inside it. We also went to that island that was supposed to be all natural with the animals. It was closed, though, and left for ruin. Last time we were there it was so crowded and hot and just not fun. Too many people everywhere. We ran every day trying to get it all in and ended up so exhausted. No ever going back.
@AFMomXs2
@AFMomXs2 3 года назад
My first visit was 1972 the second year it was open. I was 11. The ONLY thing there was Magic Kingdom. You had to buy a book of tickets and the more tickets in the book the higher the price. They had different color tickets in the book so you might have had 4 of each color and there were six or eight rides for that color so you had to choose which ride you would go on. I remember dad paying at a little ticket booth by the Haunted Mansion so I could go on that because we had used up all our tickets for that color. So I went all by myself. It really hasn't changed much over the years. All the characters used to just roam the park and in the afternoon all the seven dwarfs were in a huddle. I poked my head in to hear what they were saying and they were discussing going out to a bar after work. I said "Hey guys can I get a picture?" and Grumpy literally grabbed hold of my pony tail and half yanked it out of my head and said "Get the hell out of here kid" I was so stunned I ran to my mom and told her but she didn't do anything about it but tell me not to be nosy the next time. HA HA Can you imagine if that happened today? OMG the Karen's would be up in arms demanding they shoot the dwarfs. It was a lot less complicated back then and I don't think there was a single hotel on site. No meal plans either. What a change from 1972 to 2015. You shouldn't wait 43 years between visits! At least a dwarf didn't pull my hair this time.

I was at Disney a few years ago when they opened the Flight of Passage. My parents were insistent we get there at rope drop and even then it was a five-hour wait. While the rest of my family didn't bring anything with, I actually brought my nintendo DS with. After the first two hours, I had to put it away because my family was getting jealous that I was being entertained while they didn't have anything. So, if I ever go to Disney World with my kids in the future, I'm going to make sure to bring entertainment that they can hold and walk with for when we're in line.

@kmlammto

I have gone with big groups before. The key is to be less regimented. Family A has their things they want to do that Family B has no interest in. We generally decided what we all wanted to do together and left a lot of time for people to go where they want. Mostly, we had breakfast and dinner together and then did our own thing apart from others or with fewer folks. For example, I had a 6 & 9 year old while my brother had a 5 & 16 year old. We often took my niece and sister-in-law with us while my brother & nephew went elsewhere. Another time, my family, my mother-in-law and her friend (later her cousin & the cousin's husband joined for 1night) with another family. The 3groups did their own thing after a shared breakfast and joint dinner. BTW, breakfast buffets are great to load up on food so you only want fruit or maybe a hot dog during the time in the parks. Usually, one will walk off the full feeling (or maybe sweat it off) so you are ready for a nice evening meal.

When I went to Disney last year for my friend’s bday I remember that we were asking for directions to Club Cool from a cast member bc we couldn’t find it and he told us where it was (very helpful)... and then he told us to try the Beverly because it was his favorite... *...I still think he was lying to us to this day.* It tasted very bitter as if it wasn’t made with any sugar- like, not even a seltzer- just carbonated bitterness. I’m assuming it’s supposed to mimic the taste of alcohol without being alcoholic, but as a person who really dislikes the taste of alcohol kinda just made the Beverly taste a lot worse. Maybe I’ll try it again? Yeah... no, probably not. But it did make for a great memory though! Imagine 4 teenage girls counting down from 3 just to simultaneously contort their faces from the bitterness and look for a way to get the taste out of their mouths without trying to look disrespectful or gross. It was the first soda we tried and the taste lingered in our mouths until maybe 5 other cups of Fanta later. Still very funny though.

The last time I went to Disney World, my family went to Animal Kingdom and we were standing in line for Flight of Passage. We ended up waiting for 2 hours and 30 minutes. We ended up missing two of our fastpass windows, Kilimanjaro and Dinosaur. When we got off we walked over and scanned our fastpass and it flashed blue, meaning we were late. WE WERE 2 HOURS LATE!!!! The cast member who was standing there asked why we were late. My parents simply said, "We were in line for Flight of Passage." She then let us on and we got to ride it. When we got off that we basically ran to Dinosaur and were 45+ minutes late. The cast member there asked why we were late and my parents said, "We were in line for Flight of Passage for 2 hours and then we had a fastpass for Kilimanjaro Safaris." The cast member there was also really nice and let us on it. We were lucky to be able to go on both of those rides and just be aware that if you are nice to cast members they can allow you to ride things even if you hadn't been able to make the Fastpass Window. Fun story: I had a sensory overload bad enough to cause a migraine (light parade and fireworks). Mom goes to first aid for aspirin. They ask how old her child was, she said 34, with a migraine. She said they wished me well, and gave her the aspirin. Was very thankful for their kindness, to me and mom, who was nearing 60 at the time and they paid her a compliment by asking how young I was.

When I was younger (8-9 maybe) my family and I were staying at the Polynesian (first time at that particular resort). We go to check in, and there’s an issue because the other person before us extended their stay. The manager comes out, tells us to go grab food (from the food court, but it on Disney). He calls us back not 10 minutes later and tells us we were upgraded to club level free of charge. Club level is amazing mostly because of the free food, saved us a lot of time and money being able to just grab a free bagel in the morning rather than quick service. Another story (smaller) story is how my family and I got a tour of the backstage of the big top circus store, and it was really special because it’s 1 family per day and it was all the characters with their circus gear (Donald the snake charmer, cannonball goofy, etc.) and exhibits. We also got free snacks lol. Also, am I weird because I kinda like Beverly

DO NOT take an Uber or Lyft to the Magic Kingdom. By mouse rules they have to drop you at the Ticket and Transportation Center. You still have to finish traveling by monorail or ferry, taking easily another 15 - 20 min. Best hack; get dropped off at the Contemporary and hoof it across the short walkway under the monorail to MK front gate.
@SSobotkaJr

Better idea: PLAN AHEAD and know where the ride services like Lyft and Uber can and cannot go on the Disney property. Or even better, get a Minnie Van (they're run by Lyft) which can take you anywhere in the Disney parks for 25 bucks a ride.

If you want to switch rooms, the 2 best things to remember is arrive early so there are more rooms and options available.... And be very nice and understanding with the cast member at the front desk. The more pleasant you are and understanding, the more likely you will get a room change. If your demanding and rude, don't expect it to happen. Remember Rooms are finite. They can't "create a room" to meet your demands if it does not exist. So if you want to upgrade to a room with a King bed on the 3rd floor facing the lake with a great view of the 3 big firework shows, good luck

I would add to the preschool age overstimulation tip that this actually goes well past preschool age. 2 of the trips I took my daughter on she was 7 and then 8. My touring style wore her out to the point where she hasn't wanted to go back to Disney. She's about to be 10 in a few months, and has slowly come to talk about wanting to go back, but she's still not as enthused as she was before we took the trips that wore her out. I learned the hard way. I would say any kid younger than 10 needs to have breaks during the day, or start the day a little later and end a little earlier. That being said, I know all kids are different, so do what works better for your child, but generally I would say any kids younger than 10 need to have less jam packed schedules.

We've found that if we wake up and go early (usually for park open), we can get most of what we want done before noon. Then in that hot midday, go back to the hotel for naps and the pool. Then back again for the cooler evenings. Breaks are essential for anyone, child or adult alike.

Whenever we go we always take the monorail that is the one that stops at all of the hotels except the Contemporary. The line is five times shorter. We do this when we enter and leave the park. Most people think you have to be staying at one of those hotels to ride the "local" but you don't. Saves a lot of time, especially if you stay until the end of the day.

I’m never doing any sort of recreational water activity in the lagoon after what happened to that kid at the grand floridian. I used to love renting the little speedboats but no thank you now

My take....I wouldn’t spend the extra money on the savannah view room at AKL. Most of the animals do not come out until early afternoon and go in at night. During that time, most people are not in their rooms during their hours. You’re better off saving money and going to the animal viewing areas.

.We always stay at AKL and agree that it makes the difference so I would only stay with savannah view but I also agree with you. Time of year is as important as time of day for seeing animals except for giraffes who only sleep an hour per day.

I think it’s worth it. Almost every morning we would wake up to animals grazing or roaming and the caretakers would do morning feeds that inevitably brought out a good amount of them. Some mornings they can be a bit sparse but the times you do see them completely makes up for it. We’re on their schedule after all. They are not on ours. Nahtazu! ^_^

I will NEVER again be shy about asking for a table change. We went to Liberty Tree Tavern on our last trip, and were seated basically in an aisle next to the servers galley, and it was a fairly miserable experience. The restaurant wasn't full, there was no reason to seat anyone there. It was so noisy and bustling that we could barely have decent conversation. That has actually happened in one or two other restaurants in WDW; at the prices we pay for a meal (which often include adult beverage, appetizer, dessert, tip) which can top over $100 for two, I think from now on I'll get the table I want (or at least one where I can hear myself think).

Sad to hear it happens there too... We've give up on Blue Bayou at Disneyland because they keep seating us by the bussing station, when the ambiance is the only thing good about the place.

I know exactly where you are describing, we sat there too. Really busy there and not fun. We had terribly slow service and got free fast passes to Peter Pan, but lost like 1 1/2 hours of our day trying to finish eating lunch. The food was good though, and the manager was very apologetic.

My daughter and I went, just the two of us, in June. I jokingly said that they sat us in the corner everywhere we went. I am a little clausterphobic, and the two-tops don't have enough room and are usually placed near a wall, making them seem even smaller. Because of all of our seating experiences, I decided to ask for favor when we went to California Grill around fireworks time. Our reservation was for after the fireworks started, but we got there early, spoke nicely to the cast member, and voila! When we got off the elevator we were seated right away...front and center right at the window. It was the most expensive thing we did at Disney while we were there, but TOTALLY worth it. Very magical.

Regarding the room change, I definitely should’ve done that on my last Disney trip. Our room was THE farthest away from the lobby it literally took 10 minutes to walk there! And I have a chronic illness that means I can’t walk very far and was using a wheelchair around the parks and if I wanted something to eat or drink my poor dad had to do the 10 minute walk to the lobby because after a day at Disney I couldn’t go that far

😢 I'm going to miss Illuminations. I remember the year it started, and it was and remained absolutely spectacular. Lots of memories with that show.
