Just saying, Ike is a famous legend in the world of Awakening just like Marth is. They know who Ike is in Awakening very well. That's why Robin said his name.
I think one tiny thing that started was what I call the big 3 third parties of Smash. In Cloud's trailer, the first opponents he faces are Sonic, Ryu, and Mario. He also used these three when showing off Cloud's victory screen in the presentation. When Smash Ultimate came around, those three were the first 3rd party characters to be revealed. When Joker's trailer came around, there was a Nintendo side Joker faced with Mario, Link, and Kirby, and a Guest side with Sonic, Ryu, and Cloud. Because of this, I think Sakurai (at least up to that point) considered those three the biggest 3rd party characters in the game
Yeah it’s likely a callback to EVO Moment 37. I do also want to mention that in Ryu’s reveal trailer Aaron says it’s from Super Street Fighter II Turbo when it actually came from Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, just without Akuma in the background since that was before Super Turbo released in Arcades.
2:02 Naw. In Awakening, there's a side mention that has you meeting someone who takes the guise of the Radiant Hero, a guy named Priam, who turns out to be the great, great great grandchild of Ike, like Lucina and Chrom are descendants to Marth. Chrom, Robin, and the rest of the Shepherds are very familiar with the Legend of the Tellius series as Ike is a Legendary Hero in the world of Awakening just like Marth is. It's not just a coincidence or just for show here.
at 7:41, you missed the detail that Mewtwo is green in this scene, meaning He's about to catch a Shiny Mewtwo. even more of a merit to use a Master Ball
One thing I want to call out during the Robin/Lucina reveal (particularly when Robin uses Nosferatu, also I haven't seen the entire video yet, so please, no spoilers): Nosferatu is a dark spell in Awakening, and can only be used when one classes to a dark mage class (namely, Dark Mage and Sorcerer) However, there IS a skill that can be used late-game after the semifinal chapter called Shadowgift, enabling the use of Dark Magic no matter what class the character is... But it's only usable by female characters in Awakening. I would chalk this up to needing another spell for Robin's moveset, but later games state Robin as having a gift for dark magic, so I'll instead let that be the reasoning for it.
16:23 I like always imagine that, since we know Smash fighters are invited via letter, things went kinda like this: Corrin: "It's seems that I must choose..." [voice coming from the army] "Excuse me. Coming trough. Important mail here." [any Smasher you want he/she to be appear] "Alright. Which one of you is Corrin?" [everyone turns to him] "Ok. Sorry, got lost coming here. This is for you" [gives letter] Corrin: "Ok, I'm gonna go fight cartoon characters, cya!" Everyone: "WHAT!?" But I'd also imagine things went a bit more approriate canonically, like he recieved the letter way before and maybe NOW he opens it.
Umm, I think Bayonetta's Reveal Tag being "Bayonetta gets wicked" is suposse to be a pun with the Wizard of Oz, after all, if she's a witch that would make her a Wicked Witch. Also, Cloud unleashing Omnislash on Ike might be a nod to how Ike's Final Smash looks like Omnislash.
Shulk uses Back Slash to attack Bowser specifically from behind to send him flying, as Back Slash does double damage when attacking the rear of an opponent in "Xenoblade Chronicles" (as well as extra damage in Smash Bros. games themselves).
it was confirmed years ago by someone who worked the first 2 gba fire emblem games that canonically roy's mother is ninian, which means that roy has Dragon's blood running through his veins
Yeah, that's the canon ending. I may have my issues with FE6 (Primarily on how they treated Hector, Eliwood and Lyn, but that's just me. However, I loved both of Nino's kids.) but I didn't care much for Ninian. I actually really liked Nils though. He was a pretty cool character.
I can't tell if this was intentional (since it's referenced all the time), but Ryu's reveal tag line "Here Comes A New Challenger" is a reference to the phrase that pops up when a Player 2 enters a game of Street Fighter II.
you missed a reference in the Duck Hunt Trailer when they show off the Dalmatian costume, Duck Hunt is shown about to swing the home run bat at a soccer ball That's a reference to "Rusty's Real Deal Baseball" that was on the 3DS
Ngl I thought that the zapper scene in the Duk Hunt trailer was revealing that they were going to reveal a zapper controller for Switch that you could play Smash with. Genesect isn't "man made" but the species was heavily augmented when it was revived from ancient samples.
1:10 I knew it I haven't seen this detail being mentioned ever. Capt. Falcon's introduction (his eyes glowing from the helmet) mimic how the risen (one of FE Awkening's enemies) first appeared in an ingame cutscene. It's miniscule detail but makes all this trailer fit fully as to why is Capt. Falcon and not someone else.
A neat tidbit from the corrin trailer is that Ryoma notices that the Yato (corrins sword) has taken on a form he has never seen. That is because at the point where we saw them in the trailer, corrin only just received the regular yato, while in smash they use the omega yato, the final version of the yato from the revelations Route which he only aquieres just before the final boss and the strongest version of the yato both in terms of gameplay and lore, with it being basically the combination of the final yato from the other two routes.
14:19 The little blue bubble looking things in the background also come from the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children posters/covers which feature the same little bubbles in them (not sure what to call them, but it's the same design basically).
10:59, Lyn can also marry Hector, who just so happens to be the father of Roy's most heavily implied love interest, Lilina. Lyn is likewise, in the same vein, Hector's most heavily implied love interest. So, if you want to go that route, you could also say that Lyn's protecting her future son-in-law, her daughter's future husband, however you want to say it.
It may be a longshot, but did you notice the color of the background in Bayonetta's tagline? It's gold, possibly a nod to how she was the #1 requested fighter among negotiable characters.
17:42 Let's not forget the series used the iconic song, Frank Sinatra - Fly Me to the Moon as well as Glenn Miller - Moonlight Serenade and Audrey Hepburn -Moon River. The song choice here is really a bit on the nose huh? I wonder if Bayonetta 4 will have Dean Martin - That's Amore because when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie...
7:14 Pikmin are small creatures that follow Olimar's orders. It's not quite the same dynamic as Pokemon or even Digimon but it's worth pointing out. Luigi, Villager using Baloon Fight and Ness wear baseball hats like Ash and Red. Notably Luigi is wearing green, Villager is wearing a red shirt with a blue baseball helmet and Ness is wearing a red cap with a blue rim, which might also be a reference to Pokemon Green, Red and Blue versions, Mewtwo's game of origin. Ness is also wearing a blue and yellow striped shirt, which might mean aforementioned reference includes Pokemon Yellow.
I've always wanted to see someone analyze these reveals, so spectacular work! There are just so many details that I think went underappreciated amidst the hype.
12:24 In SFxMM, Mega Man copies the Hadoken from Ryu instead even though Ryu can use the Shoryuken (Ken is not in this game). However, Mega Man X would go on to get a straight up Shoryuken in x2 and X8 (Zero and Layer could also do a Shoryuken by doing a Hyouryuushou while equipped with the K Knuckle but this freezes enemies in the air instead of being a flaming rising uppercut) and Magma Dragoon from X4 will shout "Shoryuken" when using his Rising Fire attack (which is basically just a Shoryuken) which X can copy while Zero instead gets the Ryuenjin which is the same attack but with the Z-Saber instead of his fist. In X5 Spiral Pegasus can also use the Shoryuken named as Shoryuken but X instead copies Wing Spiral, which is a shorter rising uppercut that emits a tornado.
I misread the (original) title at first: "Every reference in Super Smash Bros." But now I really need it: The 'ultimate' supercut of every reference in every game. (trailers, classic mode, final smashes, spirits, trophies, etc)
7:41 you could have also mentioned that Mewtwo is in it's canon shiny form, so the shot references also shiny hunting for legendaries within the games 👍🏻
@@Overlord_Dwyer Yeah, but it doesn’t change my point. Especially when they function the same. Besides, I don’t believe just because something came first, you have to say the successor is similar to the original. As it means the same either way.
Let's not forget that the Sheng Long hoax spawned not one, but _two_ different SF characters: Akuma and Gouken. Akuma was added to Super SF2 Turbo as a nod to the hoax, and then later on, Ryu's actual master Gouken would show up in Street Fighter 4.
Wait, didn't you leave out a couple of things with Shulk? Like "I'm really feeling it" and "Now it's Shulk time"? And how Dunban and Riki specifically were part of the Final Smash since they (supposedly, please correct me if I'm wrong) tend to be what players pick as their partners once available.
pushes up glasses. Um, Actually, the Roy Curry snapshot isn't of Roy posed with the Superspicy Curry, as that item wasn't added until Brawl. The item Roy is posed with is one of the Food items, a plain curry that only restores health rather than making you spew fire, presumably due to a weaker spice profile. :)
Character reveal trailers in a nutshell: If the character is not a Fire Emblem rep, the internet will be joyful. if the character is a Fire Emblem rep, the internet will be furious.
Man, this video really makes me feel nostalgic. I started playing Smash during Brawl, but REALLY got into it for the Wii U era. Shulk's trailer never stood out to me much since I didn't even know what Xenoblade was at the time, but after having played the series, it really feels nostalgic in a weird way now. Same exact thing with Lucas and the MOTHER series. I CANNOT wait for the next video in this series. My two most memorable Smash reveals were Sora, THE character I wanted the most as DLC, and Inkling, the character I wanted most from a new Smash game. The latter especially was SUPER hype for me, as I was a MAJOR Splatoon fan at the time and thought we were getting some sort of cool new DLC or something, but NOPE, NEW SMASH GAME!
Well actually there is a refence to Bowser Jr's trailer after the CGI scene with the Koopalings the first gameplay that does have Jr and the Koopalings, HOWEVER that scene is a reference to classic Mario games in which you face the Koopalings first then facing Bowser last and i think Bowser Jr is refencing Bowser since Bowser Jr will be the future ruler of Bowser's kingdom.
Actually, you can see all the cinematics from the 3ds games (awakening and fates) in full HD on RU-vid. However, I am not sure whether that is because they actually exist on the cartridge in that quality or are just upscale very well.
it's a layered reference. The "Mega Upper" move given to classic Mega Man in the MVC games was based on the Shoryuken and the idea for it in MVC was inspired by the unlockable Street Fighter moves in he 1st 2 X games. BTW, X2 had the Shoryuken, the original X has the Hadouken ( which will literally 1-shot bosses ).
No. There’s a lot of grey area in references. It just because you recognize a thing doesn’t mean it’s a reference. This isn’t Megaman x. This isn’t the way they shoryuken looks in Megaman x. This isn’t the effect the shoryuken behaves in Megaman x. Therefore, no, this is not a reference to Megaman x. The video has it right.
Not confirmed to be a reference but I'm pretty sure all the way back in brawl there was a super popular animation that was like "Ike vs cloud in smash bros" or something like that and it may be a reference to that
Your thinking of Brawl taunts. Where Ike punches a guy who really wanted Cloud in smash bros as Ike in the animation thought it was a stupid idea. It was a popular animation back in the day so i always thought the Cloud reveal was in reference to that, Cloud getting back at Ike for what he did to the kid in the animation lol
“Which could be a nod to Bowser Jr and the Koopalings being little kids” bro what next you’ll tell me Ridley’s reveal calls him Ridley in reference to his name Ridley, which refers to Ridley from Metroid
I do want to point out that Ryu’s reveal trailer is from Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers as it was brought back for Super Turbo, with Akuma in the background. I used to think it came from Super Turbo but nope it was New Challengers
Give it up Villager’s Trailer introducing the Smash Invitation for the very first time, HOWEVER in Snake’s Trailer, specifically after Meta Knight, Pit, Zero Suit Samus and Wario are all we revealed we cut to a Codec Call with Colonel Campbell and he mentions receiving an invitation for Snake to join which some people may argue was the true origin of famous Smash Invitation💌
Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion may be a terrible game design-wise, but the it definitely tries its best to make the presentation charming. For example, one of Samurai Jack’s win quotes is, “You must defeat my Dragon Punch to stand a chance”.
However, dark magic is restricted to only a few classes in "Fire Emblem: Awakening," and I'm pretty sure Robin can't become any of those classes. Oh well, it's not the first time a Smash Bros. character has been given an attack that exists in their home series but the character him/her/itself can't actually use it in those original games, most notably Ness and Lucas.
Robin can become any standard class that fits their gender (a distinction that is needed because gender-locked classes are a thing), on top of their personal Tactician/Grandmaster class line. Dark Mage (and its promotion, Sorcerer) in Awakening is a standard class that is not gender-locked. What Robin *cannot* do is use dark magic in Tactician, however - it's normally locked to Dark Mage and Sorcerer, and while there is a skill that lets other tome classes use it, it is not a class skill, so Robin cannot legitimately access it.
5:38 and megaman is not here is also an nes game 13:33 this final part of the trailer was my favorite 17:47 what do i say i always like video girls with big Juicy you know what i'm saying
