I love how the Smash invite letter changed from being only part of the Animal Crossing games to being an integral part of Smash Bros. characters reveals
I think it was because fans used it a lot in memes. Smash 4 didn't have any other invitation letters, but Ultimate did, most likely in response to how fans used it.
My favorite was definitely Mega Man's trailer. I always thought the missile move Iwata did was supposed to be a reference to E. Honda from Street Fighter.
@@moosesues8887 Yes. 4 years where we heard *nothing* from Capcom regarding *anything* involving Megaman. No announcements, and any existing Megaman projects (those being Universe and Legends 3) had been cancelled. Now imagine if that happened with your favourite series - you'd think it was dead as well. And it would be a good while again before the next game in the series - Megaman Legacy Collection - would release.
Another thing about Wii Fit Trainer: The line "Weighs In" could be a reference to the practice in boxing or MMA where the fighters are weighed the day before a match, suggesting that WFT is ready to battle Edit: My goodness I wasn't ready for this many likes
Another detail in the Rosalina trailer is that it opens with Kirby Air Ride music (the intro theme) and transitioning to Mario Kart, which is a sort of fake-out since MK8 info was hot news back then (and make people think Kirby content was coming to the game)
Smash Ultimate updates and additions may have ended, but it’s a true testament of how much the games are still something we love talking about long after.
I feel like Rosie and Margie being the only normal villagers featured in Villager's trailer (the others, Isabelle and Tom Nook, being special villagers) is a nod to the Animal Crossing movie where they were main characters
Just a thought: Greninja standing on the stick could be a reference to Lucario standing on the icicle in Brawl. Probably not, but that's what it reminded me of.
<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="57">0:57</a> can I just mention that Villager planted a bunch of tree saplings all next to each other, right by his house. If I'm not mistaken, you can't even do that in New Leaf without having them all wilt the next day.
For Little Mac, his rapid punches are actually a reference to how fast he really is in the Wii game. If you pay attention to the timer, it slows down when Little Mac stuns and punches his opponents.
I’ll never forget seeing DK yawning and instantly knowing that it’s King K. Rool and losing my mind during the reveal. Also the same goes for when the second I saw Incineroar’s eyes.
<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="290">4:50</a> Something of note here is that the Robot Masters in Mega Man 6 were created by unknown scientists from all over the world for the Robot Tournament, and then taken over by Dr. Wily, so technically Flame Man's model number shouldn't be DWN (even though it is his canon model number)
I remember when I was 13 back in 2009 when I first played Brawl for the first time. I took notice of Palutena (for various reasons). I played a lot of Smash Bros Rumble (Old PC Smash Bros fan game a lot of people played before we had Smash Bros Crusade) and saw Pit's final smash in that, but not Palutena until I played Brawl. Of course I fell in love at first site cuz look at her. But I made a prediction to myself saying "What of she makes it in the next game assuming we get a next game?" Naturally I forgot over time cuz 2009, 2014, that's a long enough time. Then BOOM I gotten the game on Wii U (along with the Wii U too) the year it came out and saw her in the game. I was happy.
Little Mac fights Dedede in the ring, and Dedede is first fought in and is commonly fought in rings, and after that he fights DK who also features in Punch Out! Wii
Greninja’s trailer makes me feel like there was a Story Mode in the works that was scrapped. Why’s Kirby just randomly holding a Star Rod ? I know it’s from his game but never has he ever just had a Star Rod on him like that.
Mega Man's trailer was unbelievably hype. As someone who grew up playing the Mega Man games, the Robot Master montage was just flat out awesome! I'm also a sucker for a good underdog comeback story, so Mega Man losing midway through just made it better. That's my boy!
So glad to see a video explaining the references within these character reveal trailers. I always tried looking for these references myself but there weren't any videos that explained them like this. Hope to see more videos like this real soon.
The Charizard and Fennekin shot may also be a reference to what Charizard did as a Poké Ball summon in 64 and Melee, a role which Fennekin kind of fills as a replacement, shooting fire back and forth.
for wii trainers splash screen, i belive the flavor text is a refreince to boxing, where you weigh in before your first match, determining what weight class you go in. hope i could help!
I can't wait for ultimate origins for the trailers, I will NEVER forget the Steve and Alex trailer. I have been playing minecraft for 10 years and as SOON as I saw the blocky pixels and the explosion noise when Mario bust through the cave, I Exploded (no pun intended!) My second favorite Videogame character (after mario) that I grew up with that joined my favorite nintendo game of ALL made me more happy then I've ever been in my depressing life😔
The reason they went with Luigi when "sneaking up to olimar" is likely because, among those with a confirmed "Crawl" animation from the Mushroom Kingdom, Luigi is the one who best fits the situation. Wario's basically "swimming", and Bowser's... yeah...
<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="17">0:17</a> What are you talking about? That was one of the best things about Smash Bros. It was the whole mystery of unlocking new characters in Smash Bros while playing the game wondering what character that you'll get next by doing a specific challenge or certain task. It was extremely exciting of what will you see.
No, if nothing else, it's much better knowing the unlock conditions in advance so that you can unlock the characters as a reasonable pace and never getting completely stuck at how to unlock anyone. Naturally, this also means finding out in advance which characters will be unlocked by those methods.
In case, it hasn't been done in the next video, Roy's Smash 4 reveal trailer explicitly references a meme about Roy enjoying curry (a reference to a photo contest back in the Melee days where one of the screenshots was Roy reaching out to a superspicy curry using his down(?) taunt)
Man seeing these again took me BACK. Back to even when the smash 4 polls were happening and I put Sora in it and look now, he's in smash finally! I cannot wait for when you cover all the dlc and ultimate reveal trailers!!!
I just wanna say that randomly finding a fighter you didn't know about in the game was actually relly damn awesome and had a charm to it. Yes, you don't get the fandom excitement from the announcement trailer, but that sudden surprise of "OH SHIT IT'S HIM!" when their silhouette appeared in Melee is a memory that many cherish.
Another tidbit: Right before Mega Man uses the Flame Blast, his Mega Busters open up on the sides. Sakurai explains this is to vent himself out since he will overheat when he uses both hands. (He does the same thing when using the Spark Shot.) While Mega Man's arms never vented like this in the games, it's a reference to _Super Rockman Adventure,_ a Japan-exclusive game for the PS1, where it's revealed that if Mega Man were to use both of his busters at the same time, he would overheat.
something of note is the rosalina reveal trailer has kirby air ride's opening theme, possibly refrencing the fact both mario and kriby have racing games and are now crossing over, especially with kirby on the warp star
Just realized that Mac's jump rope from the trailer could've been his up special for recovery since it literally propels him upwards lol. Just make his uppercut his up smash
interestingly, in the sequence where villager misses luma multiple times with his net on skyloft, plays out next to what is (if i remember correctly) the home of batreaux, a character whose sidequest revolves completely around so called "gratitude crystals", which could be seen as visually similar to a yellow luma also, while these aren't necessarily collected using the net, a bugnet IS a very prominent item in skyward sword, and also one of the few you actually get in skyloft also i'm pretty sure samus rolling in front of mac and doc is just a funny tumbleweed joke, but again referencing the connection between mac and samus
<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="111">1:51</a> No mention of the game title "Animal Crossing: Let's go to the City"? <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="617">10:17</a> Funfact: If you go with the canon height of the characters Little Mac is actually _not_ among the short characters. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="735">12:15</a> Also Red Pikmin are (normally) immune to Fire so throwing one of them would be a natural choice for Olimar.
Small thought I had when thinking of "By Book, Blade, and Crest of Flame". Probably nothing, since it's not how it works in games like Awakening, but...in the Tellius games (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn), wind tomes were strong against fire tomes. So that could be a reason why Robin countered Captain Falcon's Falcon Punch - a fist charging with fire - with Elwind? ...Eh, probably not. Like I said, that magic element triangle only really applies to the Tellius games. (EDIT) Ah, okay, it's also in Genealogy of the Holy War.
<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="625">10:25</a> Little Mac punching DK can be a reference to the fact that he is a secret boss in Punch Out for the Wii
"even worse" ? fucking loved SSBM's unlocks. you didn't know what was coming or why. I remember my friend getting Melee when it came out and we were playing vs, i was winning of course. and then "warning, character approaching" it was god damn swordboy marth, some guy we'd never heard of, so we both played as him for a few rounds.
<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="226">3:46</a> Notice Mario Dodge it you can see some star coins are popping out star coins appears in every Mario games 3D and 2D :D star coins are collectibles in hidden levels in Mario series
Notice Mario and DK and Luigi and princess peach and bowser is driving on standard kart this standard kart was appears in Mario kart 8 also returns in deluxe for Nintendo switch :]
man, I still hate how Nintendo pretends Mr. Game & Watch is as old as Pac-Man. The Mr. Game & Watch *franchise* is as old but the *character* debuted in Brawl. That's like saying Pepsiman is as old as Pepsi: obviously not!
-The Rosalina & Luma Trailer is also a Reference to Kirby Air Ride Opening (The Initial Music is the Kirby Air Ride Opening, which is also the Leifmotif of the Song: Fantasy Meadows: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TI8NMdIDMX0.html ) with Mario and DK standing as the two oponents Kirby slashes away from the Intro, Here is the Kirby Air Ride Opening: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YxnLk0SNma8.html .
Okay Aaron. I’m not gonna lie, this was the most barebones video i’ve seen from you. You kind of just described exactly whats happening in the trailer, theres nothing exactly secretive here.
i think my favorite is gotta be mega man and greninja for mega is because the weapons that he had when he kills the robot masters and greninja is because well he is my favorite pokemon and the mil fighters because of the whole fight (rip iwata)
I really miss Iwata; these action scenes and the other gags he pulled made his Directs such a treat. Ever since his death there haven't been any skits, which is quite a downgrade; now it's just the games, which isn't as fun.
<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="760">12:40</a> Back then when Greninja was announced (after watching the trailer a few times) I noticed the clouds in the background look a lot like Pac-Man (the "missing-slice Pizza" design). The actual trailer video lingers on that shot a little bit... I still wonder if I'm just seeing things or if they really put a little hint for what's to come here...
Yeah I remember that too. It’s possible that it’s just a coincidence, but knowing Sakurai and seeing how awkwardly long the shot lingers on that frame, I have to believe it was a tease.
<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1125">18:45</a> Nintendo's female characters look pretty for sure, but I thought these angles were reserved for Bayonetta, you know, because SHE'S the one that's supposed to be the hot one while the characters are for kids.
I don't like the scene at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="222">3:42</a> because it is inaccurate, you can't throw 2 metal blades at once and you can't even have 2 on screen form the same megaman in SSBFWU or SSBF3DS.
How is the worst case discovering the characters in the game by playing the game. That sounds like the best way to discover a characters in the game. You managed to avoid spoilers good on you. Do you know how much of bombshell it was when I was 7 and I unlocked Mewtwo for the first time!!!!
PAC man and game in watch is a good character in smash is great because at world of light is about characters who are in the old characters from the game are born in 1980 most popular characters in gaming history
I absolutely love Mega Man trailer, even though I wish there was a tagline Also I think it's hilarious that people really want Halo, a franchise with no games on Nintendo, to join Smash, a Nintendo exclusive series Like, I love Halo (Halo 3 IS one of my favorite games ever), but it won't happen until the series properly comes to Nintendo. Until proven otherwise, a franchise needs to have games on Nintendo to be represented even at slightest
@@Klonoahedgehog you do KNOW that Final Fantasy, the franchise that FINAL FANTASY VII comes from, was literally born on Nintendo right? And that Cloud appeared on GBA, DS and 3DS before Smash right? So what's exactly your point or shall you be muted? You are not the first to use Cloud/FF as argument without knowing what Google is. Or can you point another IP that goes against it? Anything?
@@StarWritterSW Except in Smash it's specifically labeled as "Final fantasy 7" meaning that's the only one that counts in this instance. And no Kingdom hearts chain of memories doesn't count that's a different Cloud.
@@Klonoahedgehog because that's the game he was born? Like Hero Eleven comes from DQ XI S, Pyra/Mythra from Xeno2, Byleth from FE 3H, Joker from P5... And remember when Sephiroth was announced it was written as FF in general so... What's exactly your point again? Also Cloud not only appeared on CoM but also KH Re:Codec for DS, the FINAL FANTASY games Theatrhythm and Theatrhythm Curtain Call AND FF Explorers for 3DS, all before his announcement What's exactly your point again? Can you show me any other point?
@@StarWritterSW Cloud and Sephiroth are specifically labeled as "Final fantasy 7" in the game while the other characters you listd are labeled with their series name, ergo they only counted FF7 here.
