Awesome video. If you check Pogues book “For the Grace of God” there is a picture of him wearing his Seiko well into retirement. I have six restored 6139/6138 models myself and they are terrific daily wearers although the price creep is making me more cautious. Today I’m wearing my 6139-6015 blue dial and loving it.
Herman Rivera , that’s a tough one. I have an original blue one that I just got that has the same problem. There are aftermarket crown assemblies on eBay for about $75. I don’t know how good they are. I recommend that you contact Adrian at Vintage Time Australia or Spencer Klein at Klein Vintage Watch.
GEARY It will likely cost more than a speedmaster if they do like they did with the 62MAS. I love Seiko (though as of late the people running it are changing that) but not even I would pay coaxial speedmaster prices for a Pouge re-issue or heritage piece. A perfect example of my current distaste with Seiko is how suddenly the 6R movement has become rarefied and more expensive even though for years you could get them for less than 400$. It’s like Seiko are announcing that they are done trying to make improved and newer movements.
no thanks on the re-issue. they tried this on the UFO/Flying Saucer 6119/6106 and release the only version that people bought was the SRPC13 teal dial. it looks great but it doesn't function like the original. plus the price will be insane for seiko to make an auto chrono like the 6139s.
Just added this watch to my watch collection and had one back in 1979 and was stolen in my locker in high school!! Gave 100$ for mine and it’s mint shape and no scratches and keeps great time while I’m Wearing it
I recently acquired my late uncles Pogue. First thoughts was "cool" as seiko. But after about 5 minutes looking at it I knew it was something special. July 1971. All original and very good condition. I had it serviced and just love it

Now I have stage 4 cancer and hope I get to enjoy it some before I pass away with cancer 😢
Thank you for this video. I am watching videos on this watch to learn about mine. My wifes hobby is estate jewelry. She recently gave me a June of 69 6139 6000 with blue face. I'm infatuated. All I did was start inspecting it with a magnifying glass, and it took off ticking. All functions work. Proof front and back.
My 6002 was my Dad’s that he bought, wore and dove in the Navy during Vietnam. It’s different than your example where his has the Chronograph Automatic with the 70m water resist on the 9 o’clock side. Suwa logo as well but just no 17J with it. I have a closeup picture he took of it on his wrist from 1972 that confirms it was like that when it was new. Searching around you will also see others with this variant. Both mine and Col Pogues are also the international french/english date version you could switch between. Which I’m not certain if this 6005 shown is. The 6005 also has 3 different yellow dials produced for these watches with this case reference as well. This is where many get into the “pogueness” of the watch. What is and isn’t. In my eyes pogue is the general series for these beautiful timepieces. You can’t go wrong with any of them, and I’m fortunate to get to wear my late father’s to this day.
This has to be the coolest space watch, in my opinion. Sure, the speedy was there first in general, but this is the first auto in space! Also, it's a lot more visually interesting. I actually came into possession of a very beat-up silver-dial 6139 a couple months ago. It no longer runs, and needs a LOT of parts, but I'm excited to get it up and running again.
Just bought a near mint 6002 from '76. Original dial with no black ring around the sub-dial. Flawless except some minor scrapes on the movement in line with the rivets caused by a loose weight. Still running strong, keeping good time. Can't believe my luck...
Nice, video, love this watch! But you should have mentioned the race to the first automatic chronograph and that this is arguably the first automatic chronograph
Between November 73 & February 1974, during Skylab-4 space station mission both astronaut William Pogue (Seiko 6139) and astronaut Gerald Carr (Movado Datron) wore an automatic chronograph. So both the "Seiko Pogue" and "Movado Carr" can wear the title of first automatic chronographs to be worn in space! #MoonwatchUniverse
Awesome watch. I found one of these in a Pawn Shop, and the shop owner owned it since he was in 4th grade, which would be 1980 when he got it. $275!!! Pretty dang low price considering the cheapest I've seen them is $500. I'll be picking it up pretty soon.
got mine from Zayers in Saugus around "78 lost it for many years within my parents house but it surfaced back in 04 in a box of junk and this thing still keeps great time for what it is +5 min a month but not going to have it calibrated its part of the character cool piece and sit in the winder next to speedy
My parents got me one for Christmas one year when I was a kid. I still have it and it's in really nice condition. Only problem is it only runs properly when the chronograph function is engaged. I'm a bit leery of taking it anywhere locally (small city in TX) to work on it. I need to check the caseback to see its age. I'm thinking mid--late 70's which would have made me 8-12 yrs old. Of course I had no idea about the significance of the piece back then. I just thought it was cool as hell looking !!
Congratulations on finding a "True Pogue" in such good condition Bruce! Do you know the price premium for the True Pogue compared to other variants? Fantastic review. Thank you for sharing these great watches with us :)
Right price for that age I’m sure more traditional watch maker brands marked their prices way up due to heritage, durability, and owners rights of an invention
Great little video, nice background info. I've recently bought a 6002, would you recommend letting the chrono run while not in use or keep it stopped? I hear conflicting information about the stress on the clutch
I inherited one from my dad who won it in a sales contest. He left it in a drawer for 40 years. It’s in mint condition and only took minor servicing to restore to like new.
@@Boblw56 That's awesome! I've been searching for a 1971 for over a year now and just pulled the trigger on one last week. Found it on eBay. The photos weren't great so I gambled a bit, but paid a very reasonable price because of the lack of photo quality, and the watch showed up in amazing condition. The case has wear on it, but has never been polished. My guess is that someone wore it for a couple of years, and then put it away. Comes on the H Link bracelet original to the reference number. Perfect birth year watch for my collection since I was also in the Air Force and enjoy the space historical significance. Anyway, I'm glad you found yours! I think they are really cool pieces.
Awesome watches!!!! Thank you for sharing. I desperately want one of these things. If I may ask, what is the ballpark price range of these? Quick eBay search shows the -6005 seems to be about double the asking of the 6002. What is the difference between the two? Just the lettering on the dial? Anyways thank you again
Seiko should re release this exact pogue seiko has a similar release of this watch the only thing is that it has no chronograph it just has the balance wheel exposed
My Pogue (bought in Vienna, Austria, in early winter 1972, as far as I remember, but following the production number supposed to be bought in early winter 1973) has both, "CHRONOGRAPH AUTOMATIC" AND "WATER 70 m RESIST". The number on the backside is 35855 (so May '73?), the calenderday is German/English. Everything ok with this model???
Hey, I have a 6139-6002 (1971/ Blue Dial / Middle East). It is slightly damaged. But everything works properly and runs well. How much could I quote for the watch?
The 6139, for me, is quickly attaining “grail watch” status amongst Seiko watches. What a truly outstanding timepiece! I really wish Seiko does a reissue for this. Preferably an automatic, but even a mecha-quartz would suffice.
Im fortunate enough to own one, searched for years for the right one, finally managed to get one,one owner from new,in great condition, paid a fair price too,i now have 12 seikos 😂
Great Video. I have a yellow face one in really nice condition. It doesn't have the water 70m resist on the left but other than that the markings are identical. It does not have the word "Chronograph" below the Automatic. The ref says 6139-6002 so I'm picking its pretty early. But the serial number is interesting. It says 6N0418. So can somebody please tell me what year this is from? Note the N in the serial Number. Thanks :-)
