The more Seiko jacks up its prices, the more it downgrades its products, the more of a bargain the Turtle and the Samurai become. The angular case is not going to be for everyone, but the dial is right up there with Seiko's best, I reckon. If only it was 41/20mm...... Cheers, Jody

I went to the shop to try on a Turtle last year and, on a whim, asked to try on the rather obnoxious orange Samurai that was next to the STO Turtle in the case. I was immediately struck by the legibility and the dramatic case but I was sort of shocked by my reaction so I took an on-wrist shot on my phone. I found myself looking at the pic over and over. I was smitten. After many months of ownership, I am STILL smitten with this orange oddball. I posted a video just two days ago celebrating "Rocket Time" when the hands align to make a rocket ship. It makes me smile every time I happen to see it. Where else can you get that kind of entertainment in a watch?

I have that same exact watch on my 6.5” wrist. I’m not a big bracelet guy, so I got the orange crafter blue strap you showed, but it made it look and feel even bigger. I bought an orange silicone Barton band for about $20USD on Amazon and it looks and feels great now. The trade off was not having the curved end links but it looks and wears way better. Save the difference toward the next watch. Great show Jody!

I own the black gold samurai and it's my first dive watch I bought with my adulthood money, and it has been a stunner and a almost daily choice!! The rubber strap that comes with it is pretty comfy too!

I received the Save the Ocean color variant for my birthday last year and love it! Scratches my "blue itch" and everything on mine luckily lines up. If I were to get another it would probably be this exact one; I do like the orange and black color scheme. Great review...and nice shirt! 👍

I bought a Save the Ocean Samurai in Feb. I love it and the dial is absolutely stunning in natural light. It’s rekindled my passion to start a watch collection. You’re totally right about the bracelet. I bought a Flightmaster a few weeks ago and It feels cheap compared to this watch. The weight, the feel & finish is far better. Thanks for showing me I have a divers extension though!

This is the video that sold me on the Samurai. Picked one up, swapped to dd ar crystal and a ceramic bezel insert and the watch looks 10x better imo. The waffle dial really stands out. Just slapped a strapcode hexad 3link bracelet and feel it is about perfect. Now..on to the next purchase! Thx Jody!

I really like the Samurai, back from the original, but just couldn't live with the one I bought when reissued as it was pretty much impossible to find an aftermarket strap that worked at the time. I may dip back in now for another go as there's many more options available. Thanks for the update Jody 👍

I love the Samurai watches! I prefer the blue dial version these days, but the orange still has a lot of appeal for me too. A good solid watch with a readily available movement in case you need a repair on the movement, not to mention the parts for modding! My son took the blue save-the-ocean version and put a sapphire crystal in as well as a ceramic fully bezel. It made a beautiful watch, especially with that blue AR coated crystal! Great video as always Jody!!! Keep them coming!

I love the Samuria's..I have at least four of these. They're exceptionally wearable on my 7.5" wrist. The lume is legendary Seiko and may even be slightly brighter than my monster due to more surface area. For some reason, it seams most people prefer the turtle design, so the Samuria is kind of the Seiko red headed stepchild. No problem for me..I'll keep picking them up and using them as my beater watch when I'm doing something I don't want to wear one of my nicer pieces.

The samurai is a little bit smaller than the turtle isnt it?

@@brockadcock2735 Technically, yes. The Turtle is ~45mm but they wear very different due to the blocky, angular case on the Samurai and the melted, smooth cushion case of the Turtle. Thickness is similar too but the Samurai is more slab sided and presents as thicker than the Turtle.

I have that watch. In my opinion, if you have the means, the Samurai, Monster and Turtle should all be in your collection, as they are all pretty distinct. Also in my opinion, you should have at least one orange, one blue and one black faced diver in your collection.

Just bought a Samurai today from Prouds Here in Perth! They had 30% off so I snapped it up and boy does it look good. So much better when you handle it. It reminds me of a building built in the 70s with the angled shapes!

Just bought a Samurai as my first Seiko diver. Primarily bought it so I could see why everyone raves about them and to see how microbrand divers stack up to it. But I'm starting to fall in love with it. Really cool watch.

I really dig my SRPC07 Orange Samurai ! I replaced the steel bracelet with a Seiko Z22 rubber strap (I cant stand metal bracelets). Plus, the Samurai has the "Rocket Ship" hands. A fun little touch that Seiko aficionados love!

Great review, nice watch.....Just bought the Solar Prospex Tuna Padi, in my humble opinion, a decent diver from Seiko. My swimming abilities are about the same as yours. I picked up my Orange Sammy for $260 last summer on Amazon in the US. No misalignment on mine, but I did swap out the bezel and insert with a brushed bezel and insert and red triangle... so much better than the stock bezel insert. The non matched Orange bothered the hell out of me. It's a fun summer watch! On either a SC Hexad or a CB Rubber. One of my most worn, I love the sharp lines and the easy to use crown! I just got my first Samurai yesterday. A Save the Ocean srpc93j, resting in a pawn shop display case. I'm smitten. Got a crazy bargain! My heart broke taking it off for work this morning. It wears smaller than it seems, but I wear divers and g shocks a lot. Thank you for turning me on to these. Edit: Cant wait to upgrade the clasp 😆

I got my orange samurai in 2019. Put a orange/black canvas NATO strap on it, and I think it works a lot better than the meh metal strap. Have worn it freediving and out and about. It has some wear on the bezel after all the abuse I've put it through but she's still going strong. I love it.

I managed to grab this same watch one for $298AUD (~$190 USD) on Amazon AU in late March. If you can be patient and wait for the usual Amazon price fluctuations, there's a bargain to be had. And it's a fantastic watch, love the orange dial and the lume is brilliant.

Love your reviews. I reckon Seiko should make another Titanium Samurai with an updated 4x or 6x movement. I have the original Titanium SBDA001 and it's a very nice piece. It's very light and perfectly aligned. Ti doesn't scratch as easily as people think; well that's what I've found anyway. Maybe Seiko should also have a go at making a Turtle in Ti as well. It might solve the weight problem. Anyway, I thought it was a cunning plan...m'lord.

I'm looking at snapping up more Turtles and Samurais these days. My favorite Seiko models. I know people love the SKX, but at the prices they're at now, the better value is in the Turtle and Samurai IMO. I like them better stylistically, too. Another great video, Jody! I LOVE the Samurai! Alas it looks comically large on my 6.75in wrist. If Seiko made it in a 38-39mm case I would happily buy up many color variants. My favorite is the orange, but the blue and black look great too. Give me a white, green, and red and I wouldn’t complain either!

The only problem I have with lower scale Seiko watches (of which I have about 10) for use as everyday watches is that they have non- sapphire crystals. They scratch fairly easily, and the deeper scratches can't be removed without thinning of the crystal. I have a beautiful Orient Star dress watch that I use for everyday and have used for over a year. No scratches on the crystal and it keeps excellent time. Two hundred eighty $s from Creation Watches.

Have a look at the king samurai and king turtle, if you want sapphire and ceramic. Not a lot more cash, less than you'd spend on the bits to do it yourself and they even come with upgraded dials too.

Great watch, unimpressive bracelet and clasp equals standard Seiko. Prefer the SRPB51K1 dial but that's just me. This watch comes alive on Strapcode's Hexad bracelet (make sure you get the one with fitted endlinks) it transforms the watch's appearance and the chunky angular looks really complement the wonderful case design. Price is nearer £400 in the UK at the end of '21. Thanks, another interesting video.

I enjoy my SRP777 Turtle. I figure for current SKX money, it wasn't much of a stretch to get the Turtle. They even managed to copy the odd lumed lollipop counterbalance on the second hand.

I couldn't stand the clasp, so I bought a Strapcode Hexad. The angular links complement the watch beautifully, but it has serious heft. Now I think I'll swap the insert - the Al looks really good, but the pip is feeble. It never ends... Speaking of Strapcode, they have new "FKM Rubber" straps with concertina wave shoulders, similar to the OEM, but with additional vent holes. They look pretty comfortable.

Your crown looks pretty good, centered nicely between the crown guards.

All of them are centered, it is a misconception that Samurai crowns are misaligned but it's just an optical illusion. Depending on the angle it will appear off center but if you look straight down at it or from behind it is 100% centered
