one thing I loved about this version of the story is how they had Kotoko be good at making coffee- most of the other versions had her being bascially useless on her own, I really liked how this version gave her something she was good at that she and Naoki could enjoy- their cups of coffee together- its often the small things like this in relationships that stand out as meaningful

It's really interesting that you post these videos analysing Naoki's decisions and why he makes them. I never really thought about it but because the story is told from Kotoko's perspective we, as viewers, also judge Naoki from her perspective. Once you try to look at things through Naoki's eyes, many of his actions make more sense as to why he acts way he does.

i'm so in love with this version ever since i found it in 2019. the actings are so on point, especially furukawa being naoki. the script dialogue and subtle attitude make the introvert and rebellion guy of teen/early adult in naoki alive. this video analysis is also on point. definitely agree with the pace that introverts are needed. personally, i love season 1 more because the angst and slow burn is definitely my thing 😌

On the season 2 of this series you would understand and realize more on why naoki never turned to kotoko's side of the bed that day they slept on one bed before getting married. Because only seeing her at close encounters or seen her laugh or just being plainly and annoyingly noisy could turn his urge on. He has been proven that theory multiple times as the series progresses to their married life. At the first intimacy scene they had on their honeymoon. Naoki expresses his dissatisfaction on the events that passed the days they were in honeymoon because they were interrupted by an annoying honeymoon couple who has a crush on naoki. That's why on the last night of their stay he said i am not OK now. Because they never did that thing ever since they arrived. She's either asleep or drunk the past days at the time. And on ep. 3 he wants to have a baby with her already.

Because of your edits, I'm starting to watch the different versions again. There's this scene when Naoki and Kotoko just finished studying all night for finals. Naoki woke up and went downstairs and saw Kotoko making coffee. I love how the Japanese director shot Honoka Miki framed by the morning light, and the breeze gently blowing the kitchen curtains. And Furukawa Yuki did such a good job of stopping at his tracks for just a second, and his eyes widened, and you can see on his face that he just found her so beautiful. And that even he was surprised with what he felt. He couldn't understand the moment, so when Kotoko said, "Good morning." He was flustered and he didn't know what to say, so he just replied in his cold tone as usual, "we ended staying up all night." So the next time they stayed doing homework until the morning, Naoki refused to let Kotoko make him breakfast, but he reluctantly admitted he wanted her coffee. But you can see on his face that he remembered the moment she looked so beautiful and his heart skipped a beat. Remember, Naoki has eidetic memory--he remembers everything clearly. That was the moment we as the audience can see he's falling in love. He didn't kiss her out of the blue--he has been falling in love with her but didn't have the heart to tell her! Plus if you think about what an assault to the senses it is for a boy to just suddenly live with a girl. They share a bathroom. The Korean version did it so well by portraying something normal and not impossible, but can actually stir the imagination. Oh Ha Ni left her underwear because she took a shower first. I can just imagine Seung Jo's head thinking of the possibilities. The bathroom would smell like her soap and shampoo and perfume. Think of how that can turn someone on. Plus, both in the Taiwanese and Japanese versions, Naoki/Zhi Shu really is the one who moves closer. Always. As someone in a long-term relationship with a tsundere type, he has admitted that boys do think physical stuff. But introverts especially don't really want to initiate.

by far the most sensual moment is definitely the capping ceremony when he tells her to recite her part and then tells her to say it again

Also, after reading her letter, Naoki touched Kotoko's hair after breakfast the next morning. Instead of just telling her as usual that she has crumbs and let her brush them off herself, Naoki picked the dirt out of Kotoko's hair after he read the letter. It's like even he surprised himself by touching her and doing something quite intimate.

There is no such thing as sweeping, chasing and catching someone like him. It's always winning him over. Win him, and he's yours for life.

Love these lovely little analysis. Makes me appreciate the series more. Good to know the he was always a normal teenage boy until he’s given free rein (aka a marriage license) to act on his urges. 😂 Also, I forget how tall Yuki is until he’s standing directly next to her. Those kissing scenes makes it even more obvious because of how far down he has to bend. Finally understood why the director has him sitting all the time during scenes with them.

I always knew naoki attracted to her since early of the drama, maybe we cannot call that love but at least kotoko has special place in his heart, she's the only gurl that being allowed to invade his personal life .....btw i've seen all versions from japan, taiwan, korea, etc but the best still japan.....

I realized something about Naoki. Naoki always kissed Kotoko first. I think he really want kiss Kotoko more. Because he always hold to kiss Kotoko at season 1. Even he hold intimacy when Yuki was sick. 8:52 when they're nose met, is best kiss i think. How Naoki felt like he miss "touch" Kotoko. I think evety night he always "do the activity" before sleep, even for short moments.

I have watched the Taiwanese version, and I always thought I clicked more with Naoki's character than Kotoko's.. No matter I think I'm dumb like Kotoko but inner personalities I am more like Naoki... so this is why... Because he is an introvert... I known about being an introvert in my 20s.. I watched the Taiwanese version in my high school days.. This is a glad for me because I always think there's something wrong with me and that I'm more boy than a girl... I'm relieved that's not the reason...

The only downside to this version is that the production team rarely zooms in on Naoki when he shows interest in Kotoko

I watched the first live action Itazura na kiss in 1996 when I was a kid and fell in love with kassy kashiwabara. The second version, the Taiwanese one is one of my favorites, but Zhi shu (Naoki Taiwanese version) smiles too much and too expressive. The Korean version is the most popular but i don't know, i couldn't finish watching it. When Mischivious Kiss 2013 aired on TV, it was like taking me back to the 90s. And it became my most favorite version of all

I highly recommend reading the manga, might be a bit long for sure but I swear it's really worth it. I haven't got any closure though. The ending felt like they just left me hanging, it just ends like that. (RIP author) Ngl this version is the closest compared to the other versions, except anime. I'm just frustrated that there are a lot of good parts that were missed out. You will better see Naoki's POV and that he's more than the tsundere that we know.

I agree with him not being able to control his urge, because everytime Kotoko got too close to him, he kissed her. I have seen few episodes of They kiss again, there whenever they were shown sleeping the ml would often hug or sleep facing the fl. But in this drama, whenever they are shown sleeping, he either sleeps straight or to looking at the opposite direction. Your analysis make me think that he was doing that because he was restraining himself, as looking at her so close would just get him turned on. Also, when Mari chan commented about him not doing anything sexual with Kotoko, he got pissed of, because he always wanted ✨it✨, right from the first season, but was holding it in.

Like they'll of course check on you how it went, what your opinion is, and that's way too meddlesome. He never had gf until 27. I had mine at 25 but I'm the only one invested so it didn't last long (which I'm now grateful of), then healed 2 years and became happy being single again for more than a year before our friendship took a different turn. We just weren't for casual just to seem not weird to others. If there's no real depth, introverts rarely do it.

I had so much trouble with this drama when I watched it the first time because I felt that Irie-kun was just such a bastard to her the whole time. It bothered me so much that I went back and watched it again- then again- and again, trying to put my finger on what was eating at me. Then I FINALLY started to see the BEAUTIFUL subtleties that Furukawa put into every scene! Too many dramas all seem to depend on that extroverted level of love, and you would think that I (as an “extroverted-introvert”) would have come to that realization much sooner than I did! This is my most favorite jdorama. I love everything about this drama series, although most of the time, I find Kotoko annoying 😂😂😂 but the chemistry is auperb. One of my favorite love teams. While watching this back then, this made me long for a hug that is full of feelings, touches that feels like burning and hot kisses like how Iriekun do to Kotoko. The intimacy, the passion, the deep love, I want to experience all of them 😅😅😅I kinda envy Kotoko which made me dream that if I were given a chance to act and remade any drama, this one will be it. I want to be Kotoko, Pinoy version 😊😊😊

Rewatching this drama again, I really appreciate the Taiwanese version, "It Started With A Kiss" especially the sequel "They Kiss Again" which is about their marriage. Joe Cheng (as Jiang Zhi Shu/Irie Naoki) brings such depth to the character as you can see how he changes & deals with his new emotions. Ariel Lin (as Yuan Xiang Qin/Kotoko) also is so impressive as she also gives her character more depth, you can see how she's growing & maturing. Mischievous Kiss (1 & 2) will always have a special place in my heart as this is the first version of Izaura Na Kiss, but the Taiwanese version is my favorite as it really shows the growth of BOTH characters. I like this version the most. But I gotta be objective. Their kissing isnt passionate. They have a lot of chemistry except when they kissed. Their lips basically just touch each other's lips. No movement. Their upper and lower lips didnt even open. They didnt enjoy those scenes. It wasnt hot. I cant feel the lust, the urge, the passion from Naoki in his eyes, his a bit of roughness, his a bit of rush, his adrenaline. Their lips just touched, then zonk, nothing at all.

5:13 the way I saw it was him being narcissistic that he knows she is a pervert when I was younger , I don’t prefer Japanese dramas because I find it hard to understand what the characters truely think and sometimes I even misinterpreted scenes because of that , sometimes it is not the subtle emotions that I find hard to understand but the stoic/expressionless faces of the male actors that seems like their attempts to look cool and I quit lots of dramas because of this and this drama is one of them as I deemed it lack any actual acting from ml and the overwhelmingly cheerful acts from the fl , but your analysis (which btw I watched 3 of them in a row and enjoyed them) made the drama look much better!

She was leaning in for a kiss, but Naoki didn't even budge and after that they received a call from Mari chan, which interfered with their intimate time. Also, Naoki not leaning in for the kiss, sends the message that he only gets intimate when he wants to.

Let me explain about this "Yobai" scene ( 5:56 ) Yobai (夜這い), which means "night crawling", was an old Japanese custom usually practised by young unmarried men. Basically young single men would silently enter houses with young single women. A man would quietly sneak into a woman's room and make his intentions known. If the woman consented, they would sleep together (as we can see in this scene 6:00 ). In the morning, he would leave. The woman's family might have known, but they pretended not to. As a Introvert i love this series, the things i want in love or how love should be done in my life. Just like Yesterday i can feel the boy is having a crush on me and i find it cute and he talks alot which is good but i don't really like talking so all i could do is agree with him nodding my head like that. I arrived home and he mentioned me in a video saying that he likes me, of course i got turn off and i rejected him. And now all i could think of him is not the same as my first impression on him. It was so fast that it make me think of him as a weird person and unattractive (not by face but personality).
