very cool. he answered a few very basic philosophical type questions that were rattling around in my head. am hungry for more. on to the next video.

True reason precludes faith. Believing, no matter how strongly, doesn’t make it so.

About the Renaissance, it meant a resurgence of belief in witchcraft and other superstitions. And let us not forget that those enlightened minds had to labor under princes who spend their time slaughtering one another. It was so bad that when Cesar Borgia took over the Romagna it was an IMPROVEMENT over what they knew before. Also it is interesting to read the debate in Spain about what to do with the inhabitants of America, those of the "new learning" believed that it was OK to enslave them, while the backward medieval minds opposed it. The one thing about History is that it is never good guys and bad guys, with the two never switching places. It is just one surprise after another.
