Dang it, are you me? Looks like my work performance is going to be less than stellar. First one would screw me over by accidentally pulling all nighters.. let’s hope the sequel kicks my dream nuts.
Right click the move button to move everyone as a group. Also click the fleet button to buy ships to the fleet directly. Its such a good quality of life upgrade.
They didn't want you to know it was there. It was a technical preview that got turned into an incomplete release that would have done terribly if they blew their marketing load on making people aware of it. It's only properly worth playing now, and that's what they wanted.
@@DavidWMiller it really was a smart move, take the free Epic games handout of cash and get enough time to test what people do and don't want in your sequel.
What I wish they did is a real campaign with some lore. That would have made Mr REALLY cheer for a remastered new version that plays mostly like the old one
RTS Campaigns are extremely hard to get right. Look at what HW3's did to that game. I'm fine to never get one but if they want to they can take all the time they need to get it right. I'll be skirmishing for several hundred hours in the meantime.
31:30 The AI has different personalities. One is defensive which basically turtles like hell, that's probably why they're not in your face. But they're a right pain to dig out of their trench if you let em develop.
I liked the way the Vasari played. Being able to move their stations around and to different systems. Then winning through influence with the Advent was fun too.
The Mod devs for Armada 3 are going to announce their next project for SINS 2 next week. So far from what they've said it looks like it may be another Armada 3 overhaul!
I cannot stress this enough for OG sins players going to the second game, give the tutorial a glance. Its quick and you can do it in pieces but there are definitely some large changes that you might not notice right away. Anti-Air now works on missiles! Turrets can track and some ships can out maneuver them!
SoaSE was a great game, and I'm very happy they stayed faithful to the original formula. I agree on the campaign mode though, I don't mind it coming out later but it shouldn't be dlc. I don't think RTS devs really understand how important campaigns are to setting your game apart from all the other rts games out there. They look at starcraft pros who have never played the campaign and think that's the way to go, but even though they didn't play it those pros wouldn't have looked at the game if it weren't for all the hype surrounding the game, the majority of which comes from campaign experience.
I couldn’t play the first game on my old pc back in the day as it was too outdated, now I have built my own beast, I’ll be playing this tonight when I get home for sure. Love your vids splatt keep up the good work
Right click on the move arrow (bottom middle) and it will change to "Fleet moves together". Also, what makes this game golden for me is it's stately pace. It's technically an RTS, but there is no rush usually. In fact, if you time it right, you can even take a quick bio break while the game is running.
been following a long time...just love your vids. All of the mainstream games you highlight i have always been a fan of. i have even bought a number of games at your recommendation and not regrated a second of it. Thank you so much for all you do.
One of the things they wanted to do with this game from the devs is they wanted a game where the wanted modding community was empowered to mod the game... They deliberately made the game this way. we should see alot of great things with this
I recall that, unless you had a specific strategy or build order in mind, it was always good default practice to build the Akkan as the starting capital ship, because it has the colonize ability, so you could devote all resources to building your combat fleet first and not waste anything on colony ships for a while
I love Sins of a Solar Empire. Never played the base game. The mods are god tier. Star Trek: Armada 3, Legend of the Galactic Heroes - Sea of the Stars, Sins of the Prophets, Star Wars Interregnum, Sins of a Galactic Empire, Star Wars: Thrawn's Revenge II: Ascendancy, Dawn of the Reapers, and so on. Please let their be a new wave of excellent mods for Sins 2!
Some maps come with the orbital mechanics disabled for a more classic sins game. You can also disable it on the maps that it is present if it isn't your cup of tea.
They do move but not super duper fast and typically your starting little cluster of planets/asteroids all move together. It's the planets/asteroids that act as the interlink between different starting areas that move the most and the phaselanes shift on timescales of like 20-30 minutes on most maps.
Nice to see you covering this game! I actually wish you were covering bigger titles (slightly?) more often, even though I still love the number of indie gems I'm getting from this channel 😉
Old Sins and Stellaris are massive time black holes, the day passes you by without even noticing. Stellaris is graphically appealing and more polished with tons of mods that managed to re-ignite that fire in me, glad to see Sins is back with most of the good old formula intact, will definitely be checking this out. RIP RL.
Seriously!! Unfortunately the most recent statement from them on their ModDB page is that they have no plans to. Of course that was back in like March I think, before SoaSE 2 was out on steam.
I know you probably get a lot of recommendations all the time, but I think you would thoroughly enjoy Terra Invicta. It's in EA right now and there is an update happening soon-ish that will revamp one of the clunkier systems currently in place (the orgs). But it's like if Hearts of Iron was set in modern day and then aliens land on earth. It's a "What if" game that starts in 2022 and you can play as one of 8 factions that have different goals related to the aliens.
I just got the updated version and Ill say this it has a lot more to it than the alpha build. I like that they have carriers with strike craft and the sova carrier can build corvettes. I think I just got into my first war accidently while trying to expand into a new star system ( yes I like that its more than one star system now than one like the alpha) I had to retreat back to my home star which has 5 colonized gravity wells. They really did a good job with this game and the whole game visually is beautiful.
I know its not typically your thing but id love to see a lets play on this series, sins is definitely my favorite space rts almost forgot about it untill i saw your vid
I finally learned this game, or Sins Rebellion actually, by going to a 4 person galaxy, turning down the number of AI to 1, and just taking my time. Don't know if I'll ever do medium or hard AI, but I've been having a lot of fun in that game just watching the battles. But for the most part, RTS tends to move WAY to fast for me.
SoaSE is one of my favorite games of all time. But since then, Stardock has done nothing but make me despise them as a company. I am so torn right now about picking this up or not. I use to always wish that the game could have gotten moved onto a new engine, and that seems to be exactly what they've done.
It's good, really really good. They have really kept to core of SoSE the same and everything that they have added is for the better in my opinion. I don't really play any other stardock games so idk what they did to piss you off but this is such a good game and is worth giving it a chance, especially after all of the abominations of classic RTs sequels we've had lately.
When I played SSE1 I was manic about Mining asteroids and maxing Frigate production early on. Happy to find out SSE2 is not trying to reinvent the wheel, just modernizing graphics.
Oh there is definitely quite a lot of new features and changes, not just a graphics overhaul. But they really kept the core of the game the same which is fantastic.
I played the first one with a group of friends and accidentally crushed one because I didn’t believe a word they said when they claimed they were not hiding any more ships. Playing against civilizations AI made me super paranoid lol
I always start with a colony capital ship, 15 frigates, build civ research to colonize ten planets for eco/metals base combined with enough mil research for the first heavy cruiser, then trade, then culture, and it is all over but the mopping up.
1:25 but plz tell me you dove into the Mods too? Sins is one of those that was built to be pulled apart so mod teams went ham on it. Armada 3 and Birth of the Federarion for Star Trek fans and Sins of a Galactic Empire for Star Wars fans. They were my go to but there's Stargate and Battlestar Galactica and lots more. Like it got to the point the mod teams maxed out what the game engine could do so if the 2nd Sins has the same sort of modability, it's the Mods where it'll shine 😊 Imo for anyone that doesn't have Sins 1, keep an eye on it and if/when it pops up on sale, grab it. It has a workshop page and there's even more on ModDB
My only gripe so far has been that they need to randomise buildings on Y axis, at the moment everything is built at the same height and it just looks really wierd, SoSE1 had this, seems weird not to have it in the sequel.
I really like the original, the only thing that made it unplayable was the huge maps and end game performance. If they have fixed that then I would play it again.
I believe Sins 1 also didn't have a campaign, right? From what I understand Sins 2 engine also runs much smoother, keeping a good framerate even with a lot of ships on screen.
Scuttle... You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means. ;) (It's typically used for deliberately destroying your own ship, because it's decommissioned, to avoid capture, etc.)
I have to say after stellaris its hard to think anything can top that. I loved sins of solar empire that i played a lot but compared to stellaris its really tiny game. But this might be good for ppl who want a game that is simple in comparison. Might have to look up more of sins of solar empire 2 if i want some more simple game to play vs stellaris.
I don't know if I'd call Sins simpler. My biggest disappointment with Stellaris is the utter lack of tactics, it's all grand strategy. Sins focuses on the actual space combat. Counting the original Sins I have 3000+ hours in both.
