i met john lydon on a flight back from LA to London. He is a performer. That is why he is in the business. He is actually a nice bloke. No bullshit. Only person on a whole flight that offered me a hand getting my bag as i am disabled - he was a decent bloke, respectful and kind. He is very well spoken and likes a laugh. He had no reason to be nice or polite he was just a decent bloke. End of.
Sometimes in real life, the so called "nice guys" are really not the nicest. Sometimes the guys who play the meanest, and most intimidating people are really nice. Point is, don't judge a book by its cover. If you can find it, The Filth and The Fury (2000) is a Documentary film, has John Lydon, speaking from his heart, emotionally, explaining that he wish he could have stopped Sid from his ultimate self destruction and demise. Here you have a true friend speaking compassionately about the guilt he feels that he let Sid down. Very touching. There are also a wonderful shot of when the Sex Pistols hosted a Christmas Party for underprivileged children, and the smiles that they brought to these wonderful kids, by handing out presents and cake. Guess who else was smiling, but the bigger kids, The Sex Pistols. So yes, cover blown, the Sex Pistols, and John Lydon are nice guys. :)
@@leedsboy64 John Lydon actually talks a lot of sense. Yes, he's loud and brash, but he's also intelligent and he knows what he's talking about. Try listening to one of his interviews before you condemn him.
@@CB-xr1eg I have been a fan of his for over 40 years and i love most of his music and his live performances also his books None of this changes the fact that he is mostly arrogant and predictable these days
@@leedsboy64 But that's not what the op is talking about. he said that Lydon had been talking shit to Jones for 45 years. Which is a gross exaggeration as he was 50 when this was aired so he hadn't known Jones for 45 years. And as I said, Lydon is intelligent and talks a lot of sense. Also you said "these days"...the video was posted 15 years ago and the interview was a few years prior to that.
@@CB-xr1eg you make some fair points i have gradually changed my mind about JL over a number of years An interesting one was at the time of The Sex Pistols biopic shown on Disney recently Steve and Paul said they invited him to be involved but he declined I choose to believe there version of events I am aware he was caring for his sick wife at the time however he still found time to appear on morning tv to call them filthy liars
Pete Marr hahahah....you hit on the head! I mean just look at the "American " movie stars. Who are they now? Bale (English) as Batman ( yeah I know Ben is taking it over but indulge me) Cavill (Brit) as Superman, Garfield as Spider-Man ( Does he count cause he is Half American half Brit?) Fassbender (Irish) Magneto, McAvoy (Scot) as Prof X, Jackman (Aussie) Wolverine ,and the go to action star nowadays is Statham. Now don't get me wrong I have NOTHING against any of these actors but America is kinda running out of the Male movie star.
+Pete Marr Well they all live in LA. Just as Morrissey lives in LA, too. How many other Brits, when they make it, move to LA? Can you blame them for leaving that freezing island where you catch a cold every winter from the damp that just won't go away, the endless rain, and horrible food. You cannot find something spicy to eat ANYWHERE in the UK. It doesn't matter if its Indian, or whatever, you cannot get spicy food there. Buffalo Wings to them are chicken wings with catsup on them.
Honesty and outspokenness is what John Lydon is best known for. Hard to find in the world of news and entertainment. Really enjoy his interviews. Great wit and obviously highly intelligent. That's why a lot of people find him confronting. He doesn't hold back from calling a spade a spade. Respect.
One might think that John is evil and crass, but after seeing him break down and cry talking about Sid all these years later feeling responsible for Sid's death...he has the heart and soul of an artist...he is a good man.
He's no more evil than anybody else, the evil people are the bank owners, the peados, Epsiteins and Clintons alike. He's a normal kid from London who had issues with the world and used words to make society look at themselves and realise how brainwashed everyone was becoming
When I was 15, I stayed up way past my bedtime to watch Craig Ferguson because he usually had better guests than the earlier late night talk shows. And that's how I got into punk, in a way.
Mr. Lydon Is a good guy. I really admire how he loves and takes care of sick wife. Mr. Lydon is rock treasure. My son and I saw him in PIL during the Cruel World Festival. He was great!!!
I love when johhny says: We are tough lads us, you gotta go through it. And then craig says: I don´t kjnow if you have to go through it ... And then johnny says: There was no where else to go... That reminds me when I had a hard time in my childhood I was listening to Johnny´s words and the pistols really really helped me going through some tough times.. They are serious cool people...
That was well funny! Johnny Lydon is like an excited, little kid but in his fifties, bouncing up and down with his great wit and neat comments. I like the way he always pushes the limits, goes over the top and completely exagerates everything (like I've just done to get my point across!) without ever, EVER ...losing control of his hairstyle.
Love the Sex Pistols! Was very lucky to see them back in 2008 at Hammersmith. They were on top form and on fire! What a performance! I had the great pleasure of meeting John last year, I was a bit nervous approaching him, as they say that you shouldn't meet your heroes and my heart was racing LOL! But he was lovely. Dream come true for me as I always wanted to meet him. I wanted to say a lot more to him but was too starstruck! Plus I have the most insane crush on him so that made it a bit tricky LOL! It's such a shame that they've fallen out over the TV drama. There'll never be a band like them. Luckily John has PIL who I love equally as much as the Pistols. ❤❤❤❤
Not sure why so many are hating on Lydon, I put it down to jealousy, and remember BBC banned Johnny Rotten in 1978 for telling the truth about Jimmy Savile, which puts him a cut above the complete wankers who are slagging him off as if anyone value the opinion of an idiot in the first place.
im not sure on the hating. one thing that will puzzle until THE COMPLETE TRUTH IS OUT, ifpeople in show business were aware or had felt strange around Saville et al, HOW COULD OF ESTHER RANTZEN (no relative of mine) NOT OF KNOWN AT THE VERY LEAST A RUMOUR??? She was during my youth spinning 'an off the wall' type programme that would of had researchers etc - abit late to be on National TV crying - was she crying for the children or crying for herself to keep her name out of it. We pay a TV License each year - i would like to see the whole line up under scrutinity, except for those who have been on TV and welcomed the Polce in. End of.
So right,Johnny and Steve are lovely.I read Johnny´s book:John Lydon "Anger Is An Energy" and his book is amazing. He is so brutally honest but lovely&funny too :-))
Johnny always seems happier on the american shows you know. He always lets his guard down and has fun. The only other interview i saw of him where he was relaxed in the UK was friday night with jonathan ross.
Great old interview with John & Steve, here. Loved it!! Actually, I've Just bought "Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols" on CD, now. Online, on Amazon for $10.99, in fact.
I LOVE craig, i'm so glad he got to see these guys. craig's probably the only one who could really handle it. craig was in a punk band, after all, so he probably took it as an honor. xo
But he is fiercely intelligent and would no doubt be a professor of English somewhere given that he based his stage prescence on a performance by Laurence Olivier of Richard 111
That "genre all of their own" was actually originated by the MC5 in Detroit when Johnny Rotten was still pissin in nappies!Look up youtube vids of "Kick out the Jams". or "Ramblin Rose".I use to see the MC5 (Motor City 5) at The Grande Ballroom in the sixties!!!
Fat, 50 and anything is better than dead at 20 from a heroin overdose. I remember realizing that Sid Vicious had been dead for longer than he'd been alive in the first place; The Sex Pistols should do as many reunion shows as they damn well please, because it's great to be alive.
@MomoBlocko you're right, nobody would know him, but on the other hand i'm pretty sure he would still stand up for his ideals and his point of view. and he still won't be a liar. thats the good thing about him. and he would never work in a shop or somethin like that, i think he'd do the same thing what he did before the pistols, working with problem kids. and he loved it.
I'll alway prefer the "understated" style of Jones/Cook/Glenn to the "over the top" attitude of John/Sid.... but I DO salute John's ability/desire to "give it to you straight"... if you can take it or not, is a different matter.
I once heard a story about Sid Vicious. The Sex Pistols were recording their album in the same studio as Queen when they were making "News of the World." At the time, Queen was not as universally admired. And Freddie Mercury previously stated that his mission was to "bring ballet to the masses." Anyway, Sid guy went up to the band and said "How's that mission coming along?" Angrily, Freddie grabbed him by his shirt collar and tossed him out.
