This happened to me too. I felt like I was forcing myself on my wife to get any sex. It felt disgusting. I am divorced now and don't worry about sex now. I seriously doubt that I will ever get married again. Not worth it.

Which means a lot of work and conditional sex, which makes you feel like a loser. 4) Accept the situation. Understand that sex is a thing of the past. I lost weight, trained a lot, got a promotion, had some great times with my kids, and got really good at construction and woodworking. After a few months, she started to pursue me. I denied her though. Then she finally saw it as an issue and wanted to work on it.

I'm currently reading Ester Perel's "Mating in Captivity" and it seems that this situation is almost inevitable. Most men are "romantic" so desire (lust) and intimacy (closeness) are intertwined. Most women are labeled as "realists" (Perel's term) and for them desire and intimacy are distinct and often opposed. Women use sex to get closeness/commitment. The longer a man and woman are together and the closer (more intimately) they live together, it increases a woman's intimacy and security in the relationship at the expense of her desire. Perel says the solution is to work to maintain a "separateness" and sense of mystery, etc. but as a guy who's been married for 25 yrs, I'm like "F- that". The juice ain't worth the squeeze. I'm too old for mind games.

A sexless marriage/relationships isn’t something I wish upon my worst enemy.

I experienced this in my marriage. After a very long period of counseling/discussions, I pulled the ripcord and filed for divorce. Since the ending of the marriage, I have experienced what Rich calls "genuine burning desire". Once you experience that, you will never be confused whether a w*man is into you or not. I wish I knew this material when I was in my youth. Young men, if the w*man you are with does not drag you into the bedroom regularly to get some for herself, she is not into you.

I blame him for allowing it to happen. As soon as he sensed things changed he should have confronted her and let her know if intimacy stops or drops below what we agreed upon (2 or 3 per week is considered healthy) then the relationship is over. In these cases she either loses respect for him or gets bored. Once that happens it is a matter of time before she cheats or leaves. When a man ignores his intuition or just doesn’t want to rock the boat, and it reaches this point it is over.

After those conversations, I just stopped trying, initiating, mentioning sex. We were still loving - holding hands, hugging, kissing - but sex was off the table. He then cheated on me. For years my self worth was damaged by him, years of low self esteem, years of feeling less of a woman, the marriage that was more than over, waiting in hospice, really ended. After 20 years of this treatment and her refusal or half hearted attempts to communicate, I had decided to just work on myself physically, mentally, and immerse in family and hobbies. that is exactly what happened to me, a sexless marriage, I was used to give my soon-to-be-ex-wife a baby, that was her goal, other than that the intimacy left completely because she wanted another baby and all the nagging and complaining really destroyed me sexually, good thing I got out before I ended up taking my life from been psychologically crazy and tired from all the emotional, verbal and psychological abuse. There is no reason to stay in a useless marriage, get out. The chances of the marriage changing and being satisfied are virtually zero. With no kids any more and nothing to lose I went on a cruise by myself. Never in my life have I had my sack drained like that. The very first night, success. My wife thought I was trying to get transactional sex once because I spent a weekend cleaning the house and mowing and many other things. I was in a 10 year marriage that ended up sexless for years. I fell into the "betatisation through 1000 concessions" trap and paid the price. He's absolutely right on all fronts but the only place I differ is, once you clear your backlog, you'll realise that no woman is special enough for you to commit again. Hormonal issues after pregnancy or because or pre menopause can really mess with a woman’s sex drive. I am not married to her and we don’t have kids together. I’ve always been a pretty generous/giving kind of lover who always makes the effort to do what she wants and bring her to orgasm, and I stay in good shape, but her hormones have really put a damper on our sex life and while I appreciate the rest of my relationship with her, I’m about to tell her that if she won’t do it with me, I’ll have to find someone else. I really am not scared of the response. Either she makes more effort, accepts that I find myself another willing participant, or refuses and ends the relationship. I’m 60, been married three times, intimacy part always fades, whether married, or in a long-term relationship, just human nature. My current wife had some severe mental issues induced by menopause, she lost all desire, so I have met someone else that I adore outside the marriage, a behavior way outside of anything I’ve ever done or considered, just the way it is to keep myself happy. Marriage ruins desire. (Im 41, never married, own a business, and work out) Women want a man that can walk away at any minute. That power of being able to walk away from a woman is what gets them wet. Especially if they know you would just end up with a prettier girl who is more submissive, feminine etc. I would never tolerate a decrease in my sex life. If you decide to tie the knot, it's a crapshoot on whether it will end up a sexless marriage or not. My own marriage has gone thru long periods where sex was pretty much non-existent (3 times a month). Then it went into phases where she was obsessed with it, especially when she turned 33. I never thought about cheating during the doldrums and I try to be the husband and father day in and day out. It's just how that aspect of our relationship will be at times. Just realize that even if you're getting it on a regular basis, it's sex with the same woman for years and years which turn into decades....

I was in Spain on holiday with my girlfriend on a tour. At the beginning of the tour we're asked to introduce ourselves to everyone. I introduce myself and my girlfriend and after the introductions are done this older guy rolls up to me and says I shouldn't describer her as "my girlfriend" that she's "my partner". I thought that was the most bizarre thing ever. Not exactly sure what triggered this guy and more over to roll up to a complete stranger and attempt to make the world fit his personal tastes. This is an extremely biased view of the situation. All these cliches "putting a dent in the universe", "closing a million dollar deal", etc. are just a bunch of egregious nonsense. By using these you're contradicting yourself: if she's supposed to have a GENUINE burning desire for you, why does it matter if you're about to "close a million dollar deal" or go to the pub to drink some beer? If it's genuine it shouldn't be conditional and depend on how much money you make or what kind of activities you do. It should be there because of who you ARE not what you DO. Otherwise, we're back to where we started: a wife sees her husband as a walking ATM or a convenient service provider, but as soon as his money dries up she's back to playing "no sex games". The exact same applies if she likes you for the activities you do, such as, for example, sports. Again, you can be a top athlete and get lots of sex from her, but what happens if you get an injury and you can't do sports anymore? At the same time, some guys are flat broke sleeping on their mother's couch, yet they have no problem getting laid. None of these extremes are good and I'm not advocating for being a bum, but it's crucial to understand that your gf/wife should desire you for who you ARE not what you DO. If you lay on your couch all day and she doesn't want you, but then you start doing a million different hobbies and earning more and all of a sudden you start getting it on the regular - rest assured, it has nothing to do with you. She's having s e x with your money and social status, not you. As soon as you lose these things - s e x will dry up again.

My divorce was finalized today. Together for 10 years. It's a truly evil predicament to find yourself in.
