About "The Shadow of the Legion"
The Lore behind Gul'dan and the corruption of the Orcs
Gul'dan was originally an orc shaman from the Shadowmoon clan on Draenor. His thirst for power made him susceptible to the demonic influence of Kil'jaeden, a lord of the Burning Legion. Kil'jaeden promised Gul'dan immense power in exchange for his servitude, leading him to embrace dark magic and corruption.
Under Kil'jaeden's guidance, Gul'dan became the first orc warlock, forsaking shamanistic traditions. He manipulated the orc clans, convincing them to drink the blood of the demon Mannoroth. This act bound the orcs to the Burning Legion, granting them immense strength but cursing them with bloodlust and a loss of free will. The once noble orcs were transformed into a brutal, war-mongering force, turning against their draenei neighbors and nearly destroying Draenor.
Gul'dan played a key role in forming the Horde, uniting the corrupted orc clans. He created the Shadow Council, a secretive group of warlocks that manipulated the Horde's Warchief, Blackhand the Destroyer. Driven by Gul'dan's plans, the Horde constructed the Dark Portal, allowing them to invade Azeroth.
Gul'dan's ambition eventually led to his downfall. During the Second War on Azeroth, he sought the Tomb of Sargeras, hoping to claim the power of the fallen titan. He betrayed the Horde, taking loyal followers to the tomb. This act of treachery angered Warchief Orgrim Doomhammer, who sent forces to kill Gul'dan. Inside the tomb, Gul'dan was torn apart by the demonic forces he sought to control, ending his life in a brutal and ironic twist.
Gul'dan's actions left a lasting impact, setting in motion events that reshaped the fate of Azeroth and Draenor, marking him as one of the most dangerous villains in Warcraft history.
