That sign "Hank you're the Greatest" was mine that I lugged to the Louis Botha airport in Durban. I still remember Bruce Welsh grabbing Hank's arm and pointing it out so he could focus his movie camera on the sign. Lifelong Shadows fan.

Hi Storm. You must have been to their concert at the Playhouse in Durban in 1961. Do you remember seeing them use Vox AC-30's on that occasion? Some people say that they used Gibson Amps. I am sure they used Vox amps at the Playhouse in 1961

I was lucky enough to be signed to a publishing company run by Bruce Welch in the early 80s. Bruce called me 'The other Cliff' which pleased me no end. During the cold and snowy winter of 1980, he asked me where I was going for Christmas. Being a vague 19 year old, I said that I might go to Manchester to be with my parents ,or perhaps Dundee with my pals, or maybe stay in London. Looking back he must have thought I was living rough. I did look like a punk! He very kindly invited me to have Christmas with his family . As it happened I went to Manchester, and on Christmas Day, where my Mum (a huge Cliff Richards fan, natch) answered the phone . It was Bruce Welch wishing me a happy Christmas! She was thrilled. RIP Mum. 40 years later, I will never forget Bruce's kindness.Fame and guitars aside, these are really good people.

At age 14 in 1966 I chose Apache as my solo song at the National Music Association competition in Santa Ana Ca. I was scared out of my wits onstage but still managed a AAA and a tiny but VERY important trophy! Thanks to Doug Torres my teacher and his wonderful Mom Mary who is alive at 100 and a Rosie the Rivetor I discovered 45 years later. Also thanks to my parents Bruce and Virginia for the lessons and support. Still have stage fright......

Can't believe it, i'm so thrilled to see them back again in 2020!! I heard of Bruce Welch's Heart issues... thinking, oh no, not him. It's sad that Jet Harris & Tony passed by, but for Jet I believe it was just his time or something. But to see Cliff, Hank, Brian AND Bruce back.... Bruce still plays rhythm like he's 20.... best and probably fastest rhythm guitar player I've ever seen. I'm really Happy the guys are still there alive and well. They are my heroes, their music saved my life during a very long severe depression.... I'll always embrace them and always be thankful for what they did. CHEERS!

I was only 15 in Baghdad when I heard the Shadows for the first time playing Apache. I was mesmerised by the sound of Hank Marvin's guitar. Soon after I bought my first guitar and after nearly 2 years I found a guitar teacher and started taking guitar lessons. We went to the Cliff Richard and the Shadows final tour concert in Sydney Australia in 2010.

I bet even The Queen listened to them on all-tube Stereo Radio in Her Majesty’s Rolls Royce,...in Secret! Shssh! All working class PLEBIAN Surfs! 🌊 🏄‍♀️..Surfs..get it? 🙃 ..they lifted the Surf Pop straight 1/8th BACKBEAT off the boats from USA,..IN LIVERPOOL and, tweaked it to Mersey Beat, reportedly. .. What think there will be a Pre-Hippies Mods comeback genre in 2020-23 pop era, perhaps, as DJ dance eat is computer quantized drum sequence, since, about 2007, points out Rick Beato. It is hard to predict fans desires to hear stuffs,...

Absolute Legends and each a uber talented musician. Hank's guitar sound was so unique and influential. Love how Bruce is the self proclaimed custodian of that '59 Strat . Does that thing sound KILLER unplugged all these years later. A priceless part of British musical history. How many lead singers would encourage their backing band to go out solo and do their thing because they were so talented - Cliff Richard a true Class Act. Timeless Music..........................
@cravinbob
@cravinbob 4 года назад
The first Strats were made with black ash and then alder both which have good tonal qualities. Ash was best but hard to paint due to the grain. I have built a few and using Custom Shop 54s pickups you can hear what Strats originally sounded like. Twang to thick and as good as buckers then add overdrive, and you have a guitar for life. Wood does make a difference in electric solid body.

Thank God that Hank Marvin is still with us. His Guitar tunes took us to heavens. Still those golden greates of shadows (almost 20 songs) are remaining as evergreen and everlasting melodies. I enjoyed shadows during 70s and 80s a lot. Still I use to play their instrumental music very often as they are pleasurable part of my life. Hats off to shadows. I pray God to give them long life and appoint them as musicians of his Heaven later when He call them.

Hitting the hit parade where it really hurts!(lol) I was there! Those were the days. Hank actually gave a concert at my school. Probably 1959. I played in bands for years. A few record contracts . Got nowhere! Hey we can't all succeed! I stopped playing guitar a couple of years ago, but I still sing. I have recorded two hundred songs of many genres, just for fun. The best thing: I have three wonderful daughters who all sing! I have never heard them sing together! Good to see Hank and Bruce.

Haha, I'm well over 80yrs and still playing the Shadows, apart from seeing them live in Britain, Australia & New Zealand, The greatest pleasure of my life would have been " Hank" inviting me down to his rehearsals for 3 hours, He has a sense of humor Cos when I gave him my Guitar pick & said "Hank, I play a bit of guitar too", he fell over laughing. A fun time was had by all,,,, (Gib RU-vid)
