I know I am late to party, but I figure I would say some interesting news regarding "Starry Expanse." In 2019, during the Mysterium convention, Rand said during his intro that the goals of company were to get Firmament out, make a remake of Myst, than work on Riven with the Starry Expanse team. Now, the big news is that the version of Myst just announced, is that remake. It is hard to find, but this version Myst is not exclusive to the Oculus Quest, permanently. The version is only a timed exclusive and then moving to the PC sometime in the future. With that in mind, the next big project will be Firmament and then Riven.
From my memory, Sven said something like "People are wondering if I'll do Myst and Exile. Me and ShadyParadox had an agreement that he would do Myst and Exile and I would cover Riven and Revelation. I know some of your don't like his style as much, but that's the way it is." When he did do Myst and Exile I thought, "Hey, didn't they have an agreement? But, I guess he figured it had been long enough and people wanted him to do them, so he eventually did." I then wondered if ShadyParadox would do Riven and Revelation. Even though I really enjoyed the way Sven did them, particularly Myst IV, I was interested in seeing how ShadyParadox would do it. I didn't watch Sven's Myst and Exile because I thought I'd seen enough. I didn't need to watch another entire series from a different person. (If Shady did Riven and Revelation -and I'm not saying he needs to- I would watch those, however. First, because it's been a while, but second, because Sven's format didn't warrant watching when I'd already seen someone else's let's play; yet Shady's are unique enough that that would be different.)
Sven Groot (aka Dilandau3000) hasn't made any new videos on RU-vid for almost a year. I have no idea why. But his most recent LP that was actually interesting was Obduction, which was done three years ago. I hope he does Firmament when it comes out. As a backer of that game, I might just do my own blind LP of it. I don't have a microphone or any kind of equipment to do that sort of thing at the moment, but I hope I will when it does come out. I've never done an LP that includes my voice, but since Firmament was the first game I've ever backed, I feel it's important to do some kind of LP of it, though at the moment my gaming channel has only three subscribers, two if you count me with this channel. More subs would be nice, even though I'm not very active on my gaming channel at all. All I've done are an LP of Portal, and a partial Portal 2 LP. And they don't include my voice at all.
I'm late, but thanks for covering this subject. Of course I'd like it if you gave us your take on Riven since you did a great job with Myst and Exile, but now I understand the difficulties you face with that. Whether or not you take on Riven, I'll be following your channel.
I'd love for Riven to happen, but I'm interested in hearing your other ideas. Can't wait to see what's next! Edit: I do think the double-run is a cool idea, and if it helps you to plan better, it sounds like a great option!
I understand this thought process 100%. The double run idea definitely seemed unique and makes a lotta sense! I definitely get you not wanting to be typecast too. Would you not only being a “Myst player” include Cyan period? Would you run through “Obduction” and/or “Firmament”? I’d honestly love to see your take on “Obduction”.
Haven't they been working on Starry Expanse for something like 12 years? Even with Cyan backing them it could still be many, many more years before a release, with no guarantees.
Is there hard evidence of that? Well, I guess it doesn't matter. As I explained, the original Riven is not the best breeding ground for creativity, so why settle?
@@shadyparadox I'm not sure about the evidence. I haven't done much digging myself. It was just surprising with how long it has been in development. Maybe with more backing and support from Cyan, things will move along more quickly. I'm also curious how they will handle the sequences involving actors. Will they do 3D models or use the original footage (if still available). Time will tell.
