I played the original nick toons racing. For PC back in the day. It was decent. Diddy Kong racing and CTR, are definitely my favorite two clones. The better ones I think.

Cars 2 should've been there on paper it sounds like an obvious clone to score bucks from the kiddies but what it brings to the table, to differentiate itself makes it quite fun for a licensed kart racer for teens too! Its probably my most played third party game for the Wii (I never got PC or nextgen at the time)

I’ve yet to check out the Disney one but I’m quite fond of Nickelodeon’s kart racer 3 (the ps4 version and the original in arcades) along with My Sims racing, Sonic and All Star Racing & Transformer, and LittleBigPlanet Karting (my personal favorite with its gimmicks, mechanics, story, and online before it was shut down of course). Warped Kart racers seems interesting tho. I’ve only heard about it but I’ll definitely have to check it out at some point.

Sequel idea: actually good Mario Kart clones. You could go for the big ones like Crash Team Racing, Diddy Kong Racing, or Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing. Or you could pick some lesser talked about ones like some of the Pixar Cars games or Muppet RaceMania (my personal favorite)

my personal 2 favorite non-mario kart games are -Team Sonic Racing (i have transformed as well, but i can't play it as easily + i'm not a fan of missions, and you need to do those to unlock characters) & -Skylanders Superchargers (Racing), the main game (and Imaginators) have a racing side mode, while Racing is a Wii & 3DS is a stand alone racing mode (to bad Imaginators Switch removed the racing side mode...)

Are we just going to ignore that the angry birds ip once had a mario kart clone as well, I mean, I’m not sure if it can even be obtained anymore, but it certainly should not be ignored

One of my absolute favorite things in Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3 is the vehicle system. I LOVE being able to choose from all different kinds of combinations of vehicles, wheels and tailpipes. There’s literally MILLIONS of possible combinations for every character to ride, and I love it.

For nick it's weird every other nick game prior, the main complaint i hear is how much characters talked, so thought not talking was fine (since I kinda have that issue with multiverses+smash)

Cars 2 the game was my childhood and legitimately holds up today.

I’ve been with Speedstorm since Day 1 when it was Early Access, and honestly the micro-transactions were irrelevant. There’s barely any “paid” currency to begin with and by playing for a little bit every day, you’ll get enough free currencies to get every racer unlocked and leveled up.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3 is an absolute blast on PlayStation 4 and 5!

I wish people would kill that narrative that every kart racer that comes out is trying to compete with Mario Kart. It would be delusional for all these companies or small indie studios to think that their game is going to kill Mario Kart. All they're doing is trying to make a good or at the very least decent game. I love games like Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, Speed Punks, Smurfs Kart, Lego 2K Drive, Pac-Man World Rally, Mysims Racing, Joy Ride Turbo, Beach Buggy Racing 2, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed, KartRider: Drift, Disney Speedstorm, Chocobo GP, and Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway (the PS4 version. Not the dreaded Switch version). It's the same thing with the platform fighting genre. Anytime a new platform fighter comes out, Smash fans think they're trying to kill Smash Bros. These companies and small indie studios don't care about competing with Smash.

I dunno if Warped Kart Racers will ever come to other platforms, but one benefit of Apple Arcade is that the games have to work on all of Apple's platforms, including Mac and Apple TV. So if you have one of those, that is a way to get them on a more traditional platform.

I'm currently doing a gaming based webseries around the game Disney speedstorm. It's meant to be sort of a spinoff series to the dreamlight valley series also featured on my RU-vid channel.

This program had one missed opportunity that we could all point out: Although Sonic Robo Blast II Kart is rendered as one of a few notorious "Fangame within a Fangame" concepts that we have witnessed over the years, this Mario Kart clone built on the Doom Legacy engine does enough to distinguish from its Super Famicom counterpart that for it to be available for the never~endingly incredible price of Free makes me wonder how big this could've been if it were an official product, it is simply that ageless that it would've dominated phenomenally at Retail if it were released back in I998. Now, the base game for SRB II Kart doesn't offer too many characters and courses, and we are still waiting for Version 02 Revision 00 to come out to natively integrate AI Players without needing the Player Bot Mod (as it stands right now, if you don't have this, you can only play either Time Attack with a party of One or Local or Online Multiplayer with up to Four and Sixteen players, respectively); this is where Version 0I Revision 06's uplifts to Mod Integration come in, users can now install up to 0256 Package Files of their choice (including Custom Courses, Extra Characters, Gameplay Scripts and Mechanics, and even full~on Compilations that may combine many of the categories at once; the latter being essential toward conserving your Add~on Slot Space) and this will extensively enhance the Replay Factor by countless multiples worth, there's a reason why many will say that this is the best clone of the bunch and with it having as massive of a Custom Development base as Jazz Jackrabbit II and PGA Tour '08 (PC Version) witness at their peak will keep it going well after the official IPs' lifespan that I truly hope more people will discover and support it in the future eras that are to come.

The sonic racing games are really good though. As is speedstorm. Also speedstorm isn’t that pay to win and most of the characters are unlockable for free the micro transactions unlock them way faster

I have 2 more crappy mario kart clones to share: - El chavo kart, a mobile kart racer based on the mexican TV show, it's not overtly bad but doesn't have anything noteworthy going on - Kandidatos Kart where you play as brazilian politicians, it's really bad but only 1 dollar on steam so it's worth trying out just for the laugh of it Also if you thought the pc version of Garfield kart was good then the 3ds version is downright perfect, the physics are awful, offroad straight up doesn't work at all so you an drive straight through it with no consequences, and the collisions are so messed up there are some spots where you can fall through the floor just by driving over a spot the devs forgot to add collision to

Then there's SRB2K, a mod of a Doom 2 mod that's the best kart racer on the planet loool

Nascar had two kart racing games. (Kindve). Being nascar Unleashed in 2011 and Nascar Kart Racing. Unleashed had wreckfest/demo derby type of physics where you can t-bone into someone at mach 2 and drive off like it’s nothing with tracks being based off of real life tracks and the area around it (only had Miami, Daytona beach, Chicago, Martinsville, and Talladega) While nascar Kart racing was your actual Kart racing game but teamwork where if you were close to your paired up driver while racing you and the other person would get a “slingshot” boost and chain it up constantly by passing each other. In terms of track variations you had 12 different tracks with different settings. One being at a actual junkyard, a city construction zone, and real life race tracks that were “kartified”. One of the tracks in the game being Dover Motor Speedway where the mascot was named “Miles the Monster” shows up in the track similar to Mario kart 8 Bowsers Castle.

I think a worthy entry that actually fun and decent is Disney Pixar Cars 2 and cars 3 driven to win(it's just 2 but new tracks and in imo more fluid movement). Got the platinum on 3 recently and it was a blast.

If you play Asphalt 9 Legends then Disney Speedstorm is literally just that as both used the same engine but with the real cars replaced by Disney characters and vehicles. It's kinda lame though that the game only runs at 30fps on Switch when Asphalt 9 Legends actually run at 60fps on Switch and both are made by the same company so not sure why Gameloft was able to get Asphalt 9 Legends to run at smooth 60fps on Switch but not Speedstorm. Even the micro transactions and loot contents are in similar layout as Asphalt 9 Legends.

I actually own Garfield Kart Furious Racing, it’s my second most played game for some reason 😭 (I do have the legit Mario Kart btw) And my younger cousin used to ask me all the time when he came to my house if we could play it

Well dang, I bought Nick Racers 3 because it finally included voice acting and the courses looked fun and immediately felt like it played poorly. Turns out I'm not the only one. Maybe I should pick up Nick Racers 2 if it actually plays better but I'm not convinced that's even worth the low prices it sometimes goes for on the eShop. I'll give Disney and and FOX Kart a chance some time. They look pretty fun. That Hello Kitty game looks mind bogglingly slow. Just wow. Thank for the video. It was informative.

My question is.. can you make any cart racer without it being just assumed to be interpreted as a Mario cart clone? It’s kind of just an inherent problem with racing games in general. Is forza just a clone of Grand Torismo? COD vs Battlefield. There’s only so much one can do to stand out in certain genres

To answer your question, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3 doesn't run well either on PS4. They optimized the game too much for next gen hardware and its the fact that it runs on the Unreal Engine that the game feels sluggish on anything but PS5, Series X and PC. I'm already expecting Dreamworks All-Star Kart Racing to run the same as NKR3 on PS4, let's hope i'm wrong and they optimized the game on current gen hardware.

If I recall correctly, Hello Kitty Kruisers With Sanrio Friends received a 3DS port in late 2014 or so. It graphically looks the same, the mini-map is moved to the touch screen, and, probably because the developers forgot to optimize the game, it lags the original 3DS models so hard to the point that it makes the game barely playable. The Circle Pad is over-sensitive, the touch screen is under-responsive, and I can't even imagine how bad the game would look if the 3D is used. Instead of something wholesome, we get nightmare fuel.
