An other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. I'm not huge on awards. But hearing Toro say that he waited 25 years for that Golden Globe really makes me hope he gets best picture. This man is a genius and a legend when it comes to allowing people to see his vision.

Del Toro said he was inspired by Creature from the Black Lagoon to make this film. He said he always wanted the creature to "get the girl in the end". He finally got to make that childhood fan fiction a reality.

I wept when I saw this film. Twice. Could I quibble about the illustrator using a term for sex seeming inappropriate for the period? Yes. Did I think the cruelty in the film added to it's gravitas? No. Did I think it was fabulous? Yes. It's a bit of a miracle.

It must be only me but I didn't like the movie that much, it was ok but not to the point of saying its amazing. I don't know, maybe is the fact that I don't understand Del Toro's mind.
