@@ruly8153 Guillermo and Greta have kind similar sensibilities and personalities, I remember a roundtable with both of them and it was obvious that they clicked. Greta seems to be very affectionate and sensitive, she adores Guillermo's craft, she was just expressing her love and admiratoon for him. Plus, she didn't say "thank you", she said "I love him", you can clearly see her mouthing three words.
That's J. Miles Dale. If I'm lucky enough, two years from now I will be coming back here to reply to myself when he produces a film of mine. See it, dream it, make it possible.
Even if I prefer Dunkirk, Three Billboards, and Phantom Thread, I can’t get mad at all here. The Shape of Water is a simply beautiful film that doesn’t come along too often. Congrats Del Toro.
I watched 4 of these: i liked both Three Billboards and Dunkirk a lot, but not as much as Shape Of Water. I actually prefered Darkest Hour even more, but your right, how can i be mad at this?
I like how he didn't waste this time thanking a bunch of people nobody knows, but instead said something meaningful and the people watching at home can relate
The shape of water is the most beautiful shot I've seen in this decade. It instantly transports you into that fantasy world. The score won't leave your mind. It was an experience. This type of movies don't come too often. Masterpiece...
I adore this brilliant man! His speeches capture how much he really wants to encourage the youth of all different ethnicities to follow their dreams, because if we all dismiss our dreams, what would the world be!? So much respect. “Kick it open and come in.” Congrats!
The Oscars were two months ago and I’m still so happy for every single one person involved with this masterpiece.. so but so well deserved. An ode to cinema, to life and to love.. a piece of pure art
Really could have joked around that a lot more than what they did. Could have even say citizen kane won or something. Such a wasted opportunity. Guillermo was great nonetheless by checking that he won indeed.
Oscar gets it right once in a while. For me me this was a very call over "The Post". The sheer audacity & uniqueness of this magical film earned the statue. Who can resist delToro?
People really forgot that filmmaking it’s about art and not about doing the same realistic drama that criticizes the society. One of the most deserving winners of the best picture category.
Ese abrazo entre Del Toro y Garcia Bernal es una gran imagen de cómo somos la mayoría del tiempo los mexicanos!! Nos sentimos orgullosos de que otro triunfe!! Bravo!!!!
This marks only the 2nd time ever that a fantasy film won this category, as well as only the 2nd time since 1943 that the Best Picture winner had a credited female screenwriter (both after LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING). It is also the first Best Picture winner since MILLION DOLLAR BABY to feature a female lead.
My personal wins Best picture- The shape of water Best actress- Sally Hawkins Best actor- Gary oldman Best director- Guillermo del Toro Best supporting actor- Sam Rockwell Best supporting actress- Allison Janney Best cinematography- Blade runner 2049 Best orignal screenplay- Get out Best score- the shape of water Best adapted screenplay- Call me by your name
1:59 I like how the envelope is emblazoned with the category name in large print & in very high contrast to the background. That helps avoid a repeat of the Moonlight-La La Land mixup that happened in 2017.
@@MrWbc0002 and I actually like the man as a visual director, give "the shape of water" an oscar for set design, visual effects or costuming, that would make sense.
I honestly thought Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri was gonna win. I mean, the clues were all there. It won big at the Golden Globes. It won big at BAFTA.
Drew Gars Best Picture is voted on priority basis, so even if a movie wasn't no. 1 on someone's list, but let's say it was no. 3 on most people's list, then it has a very high chance of winning. Probably that's what happened.
ii gogi That's likely if the voters for the Oscars were wildly different from the Golden Globes, BAFTA, SAG, various Critic's circles etc. Not that Three Billboards was all that great.
I just got to see this film...what an amazing experience! I don't know what it is about sea creatures, but ever since I saw The Creature from the Black Lagoon, I've had a serious fascination with them. This one didn't disappoint! Lovely, lovely film! Thank you!
Reading the coments, it's clear no matter what film would have won, a lot of people would disagree. Among all the films nominated, there's no movie that most of the people agree which is the best one, the people were divided.
Tbf I would have been absolutely fine if most of the nominees had won. I loved Dunkirk, Get Out, Phantom Thread, Three Billboards and Shape of Water all for different reasons, and each one had more than enough to justify BP. SoW was a masterpiece, and deserves so much love.
Agreed. I actually liked that movie even better than Shape of Water, but I'm glad it won. I love Guillermo del Toro and I'm happy to see a more unconventional movie take the prize.
Same thought here. Blade Runner 2049 was the movie of the year for me, such a shame it didn't get nominated or at the very least got back the budget it cost for. But at least it got a lot of praise after all that. Del Toro deserved this for me, since the movie was simple concept turned into an artistic revelation; never seen something this artistic win since Birdman.
@@dialecticalmonist3405it's art and not many will find it good, u may not like it. nevertheless it gets way more praise from critics than "tedious" and "dull" movies
The Shape of Water is a classic movie, the story, acting, music, visuals, cinematography all were top notch. Such a fresh and enchanting movie, truly creative. Guillermo Del Toro created a stunning movie. One of my all time favorites. So happy it won 4 Oscars including the Oscar for Best Picture in 2018. 👏👏👏
How disrespectful to cut with music the speech! Let the producer talk, damn it! It's his time! The Academy has a lot of time to presenters coming up with jokes the minutes they want but cut the winners speech! COME ON! Shame on you, Academy
While I would've preferred Phantom Thread (my 2nd favorite movie of 2017) or Three Billboards to win, I still very much think Shape of Water deserved the award. Tbh, I think Blade Runner 2049 (my favorite movie of 2017) should've won, but it wasn't even nominated.
I loved all of these movies, I also really liked Call me by your name But in my opinion for me (personally) Shape of Water is the best, because it left a huge and the strongest impact of me. I am a big fan of fantasy and other genres too, but this particular film is special because of how every element in the film blemds with each other, and sets up a very powerful and beautiful scene (accompanies with one of the best soundtrack ever). Its kinda like Amadeus in some way, magical. I still agree that Call me by your name, three billboards, blade runner and PT were amazing. But for me personally SoW made the biggest impact
Atleast Guillermo is sticking to reason he started making movies. Meanwhile some are going dog shit crazy with the Oscar Baits. I mean I am way more excited when Spielberg does something like "Ready Player One" than "The Post".
One of my favourite Best Picture Winners of the 21st Century. This also includes The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King, No Country for Old Men, 12 Years A Slave and Birdman. Best of all The Shape of Water is my favourite film of 2017.
The Shape of Water was the second fantasy film who won as Best Picture. Previously, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King on 2004. That film was winning 4 awards from 13 nominations, tying the records for Birdman (Or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), The King's Speech, No Country for Old Men, A Beautiful Mind, and Unforgiven.
1.) Lady Bird 2.) The Shape of Water 3.) Phantom Thread 4.) Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 5.) Call Me By Your Name 6.) Get Out 7.) The Post 8.) Darkest Hour Sorry. I haven’t seen Dunkirk.
