Hi and welcome to episode 36 of the Shed of Dreams ES 335 guitar build series. In this episode I get the headstock veneer ready for the inlays by routine the cavities for them. I always thought this process was going to be difficult but it proved to be a very challenging operation, happily there was a successful outcome.
I hope you enjoy the video, if so please consider subscribing using the link below.

Me either Jaden, I thought my first time out would give me more issues. I'm really, really happy with the results :)

As ever, it’s a joy to watch you work and your processes. Regarding the gaps, I always carry a mantra from many years as a graphic designer. Early in my career I was agonising over something when a colleague wandered over, glanced at what I was doing and said “a man on a galloping horse wouldn’t notice.” People will see always the stars of the show, not what they’re sat on 😬

Wise words indeed, I try not to stress the little details but it's a battle :)

Putting your audience ahead of the job..... Your too kind Pat. The anxiety you had was well and truly captured, I was nervous for most of the video

Thanks Jurgen, I've enjoyed this part of the build but I'm also glad it's just about done. A huge amount of work that could get ruined at any stage!!

the hell with lighting and camera angles for the common observer. seems they might have forgotten who this build is for! the only thing that mattered was getting the routing for the inlays right. splendid work by the way.

Thanks Rick, I like to get nice footage if I can but yes, the job needs to be right first. I'm really pleased at how the inlays are going.

@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams A lot of work but the finish will be worth it. 100 times better than sliding on a decal

Very well done, sir. My palms were sweating just watching. I should probably put some thought into my logo and… brand? Label? Was thinking Luftwaffle Guitars and a logo of a winged waffle. Lol

Could you get some of those mini led strips and fashion a ringlight under the router that may help.in filming and assist your view at the same time.😃👍🇫🇴☮️

Great inlay work. Think I'd have kept the ebony dust though (I have pots of different wood dust).

Me too, I will have plenty of dust by the time I've got them stuck in place.

in fast speed sounded like a dentists drill.. not my favorite sound.. lol.. From where we were sitting I think more light and a blower to remove cuttings would have made me happier.. still dont know how you managed that.. amazing..

A bit of tape on the bit acts like a fan and blows the dust away

That's a great shout, thing is I do that all the time. I think I was so focused on the job that I lost sight of the obvious!

What do you reckon the total price of building this guitar including wood, hardware, electronics? Also, any estimate of man hours? Thx
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams 2 года назад
I haven't really been keeping count of either cost or time but I think it'll be around the £400 mark for materials and parts. In terms of hours I'd think 200 - 250 but that's a very rough estimate. To be honest it's about the journey, that's why I don't count :)

I was wincing watching you take your logo back off. Could you have used the printed logo that you used to create the logo to be a routing template?
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams 2 года назад
Possibly but I think they would have been slightly different shapes. I do need to find a better glue to use, that was too dodgy!!

🤔 I am guessing a 335 build may not be the best choice for a first timer...😅😂🤣

Probably not a starter build, I think it's a legal requirement to build a tele first lol.
