Our final episode of Season 1 is a double-length feature of shelling on the south beaches in Marco Island, Florida. We got there before sunrise to take advantage of an early low tide and a wind event the night before and we were rewarded with shells everywhere. No need for a boat tour on this day. The beach had plenty to offer and we were able to make this episode a long one. We also are including footage we shot on this same beach a few days after hurricane Ian back in 2022. At the end of this video we review all the cool stuff we have planned for Season 2 so be sure to check that also. Thank you to everyone who has watched, subscribed, and written so many great and constructive comments on our videos up to this point. We truly appreciate it. We're constantly learning about shells and how to make our videos better and season 2 should see further improvements. Thanks again for watching! Hope you enjoy this longer episode. :)

Love that you put as many live creatures back in the water. Love the worm shells, the lace and apple mericks, lighting welcks, the true tulip, the turban, the alphabet cones, love the points and colors in a lot of the shells the spinny jewel box, the pear welck, and all the others are just all so beautiful. Thank you for letting us hear the oceans waves. It really calms me down and relaxes me. Thank you for you time and have a great day..

Wow, I absolutely loved this mega adventure that you guys took us on! What a true shelling paradise, and wowsers, I can understand why you’d want to get out there early! Fantastic. My favourites of the day were the albino fighting conks, and that big pear whelk, so cool. I would have liked to have seen a close up of one of the Pen Shells near that walk-way/pier, I think they’re wonderfull shells as well, though you definitely found the best of the bunch with those conks and cones. Thanks for sharing ❤️

Thanks Shannon! We always appreciate your words of support! Yes, having my wife join in on the narration was great. She's exceptionally camera/microphone shy and you can probably here some nervousness in her voice in the beginning, but she got more comfortable as we moved along and I think she's going to be great at it. I hope you're able to plan that trip soon! Please keep us updated. :)

Looking forward to the clean, restore, and protect episode! I've got a bunch of knobbed whelks that I'm waiting to clean and eventually display. Currently don't know when to choose between bleach or muriatic acid, and what to put on the shells to give them shine.

This is a great hobby for a couple to share! Great job at Marco, and some beautiful take homes! I really am taken with pear whelks (and that one was HUGE!), fighting conchs (and those albino ones were gorgeous!), and lace murex. Well, I really like them ALL. That worm shell was pretty incredible, too (and now I'm hungry for curly fries)! Love your videos! Nice to hear both of you this time, too!

We are going to South Marco the week of Thanksgiving. I have heard about this low tide spot before. How low was the tide when you were there and how long did you stay there? We would like to know how long we can stay there before the water gets too deep for us to get back. The lowest the tide will be when we are there is .5 feet.

You’re sure you didn’t get a rose murex?
@theshellnuts
@theshellnuts Год назад
Good question. I thought about that when I first saw it, but a Rose Murex typically is smaller and has a skinnier tail with little spines sticking out from the tail. We have a few of them in our collection and this looks different than those. It's either a Lace Murex that rested in some sand that had some unusual minerals in it that caused it to have that abnormal pink/rose tint, or it's just a variety of murex we're not familiar with and don't have in our books to identify. If somebody knows, please feel free to share! We always appreciate our knowledgeable viewers helping us learn. :)

I'm about to watch the video BUT..... I am patiently waiting for "Florida Keys Shelling-Part 2"
@theshellnuts
@theshellnuts Год назад
LOL. Yeah, we're excited about that Part 2 also. We just need to wait for the weather conditions in the Keys to be right. My little bay boat can't make it out to the reef in the Atlantic unless there is extremely light winds and it has to be on a weekend so my wife can join me. Hope you can be patient with us! :)

@lindsayhuff8813
@lindsayhuff8813 Год назад
Because it is a rose murex. Lol! Not a lace murex.
@theshellnuts
@theshellnuts Год назад
Well, ummm, we have several rose murexes at home and we're fairly familiar with them and a rose murex doesn't have "ruffles" and its narrow section is very slender with tiny needle-like spines sticking out, and it's also a very small murex. Feel free to Google 'rose murex' and check the images of it and hopefully you'll see what I'm talking about. This murex that my wife picked up has ruffles on that slender section and has a thicker shape overall and is larger than a standard rose murex. So unless there are completely different kinds of rose murexes, our best guess is that it's just a lace murex that has an unusual tint to it because of some unusual minerals it was laying in and maybe the sunrise is also causing the color to look different on camera, or maybe it's a variety of murex that we're not familiar with and don't have identified in our books. But thank you for your feedback Lindsay! We're still learning and appreciate everyone's input here and it's fun to try to identify some of the unusual finds and chat about them! :)
