Seeing scrolling endless corridors of SMT while somebody talks about being a crackhead or crack addiction is the best way to present this game and also it's an ultimate SMT experience. Great content.
One would think that your existential talk on law and chaos heroes and life in general is exclusive but no, this is why i love SMT games they drive your imagination so deep and make you think about important stuff long after you put the controller down.
My experience with SMT1: there's a bug where if your inventory is full and you are given a pass to enter Gotou's base (pretty sure that's where I was, just saved the female protagonist from getting burned at the stake); the pass won't be there and you have to start over. You won't be given another and there's no way to progress the game. Haven't gone back since
@@JasonGravesPoser it did but I may someday get motivated again to beat it. I did find the story interesting and am mad I didn't get to the point where Japan got nuked again.
The hardest part about this game is just navigation and knowing where to go. The second half of this game was actually piss easy I beat most of the bosses with no minions.
Thanks for the tip about how the overworld icon spins in certain directions! That apparently applies to later games in the series so I think it'll be helpful for determining what alignment I'm in when I get around to doing my SMT IV Neutral route
Oh the antique store itself is a glitch, since you're supposed to be able to buy firearms before the apocalypse, but it doesn't open up due to a glitch.
I see... Started a new save file to check back in with him, when I couldn't get him to do anything different I thought it was just cut content or something.
@@JasonGravesPoser look into the Orden patch. The glitch actually has to do with the translation. I'm surprised you didn't run into the Law Route glitch with the baptism and all.
On the fan translation of the original NES games: there is an SNES compilation cart of the first two NES games, called Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei, and there's a translation patch for it. Does that count as an SNES RPG for you? Either way, I thought you might want to hear of it if you don't know it already.
I recently went through this game as well. Absolutely agree with this. It was a slog to get through, but it was a good time regardless and I am happy I played it. Now I am going through P5R, and I will continue on to SMT2 when I feel like it again. Becouse man, I need a break.
Just discovered your channel, enjoying it! Anywho, it's funny. I played SMT1 for the first time a couple years ago, and I had an almost identical experience. (Although I played the slightly-better PSX port.) The actual minute-to-minute gameplay is mostly a chore, but goddammit there's just something so COMPELLING about SMT1 that forced me to like it. And the thing is, having now played the series up through SMT IV, I think SMT1 may still be my favorite out of the bunch. Despite *everything.* It's just so amazingly ahead-of-its-time for a 1992 RPG that I can forgive its 1992isms and appreciate all the stuff it did well.
It is worth noting that while the original megami tensei games by Atlus haven't been translated properly, there was a SNES remake of them that did yet a fan translation.
I've really, really wanted to like this game, but the way the screen scrolls in the dungeons makes it nauseating to look at above all else. I would love it if this and II had a faithful remake, but I can't trust Atlus to do a simple update that retains the original's character and atmosphere that I like it for.
Awesome video man! I watch tons of these types of channels, but you really manage to stand out in a crowded field. Also, does this mean you're gonna review every Japan only RPG too?
The plan is to eventually do everything that came out in America, with everything else being at my discretion. There's a list of planned games in the description, I'm open to adding more Japanese games to the list if they seem interesting enough.
@@JasonGravesPoser Awesome list man, for Japan only games I'd recommend Romancing Saga 3, Bahamut Lagoon,Tactics Ogre, the Front Mission games, and Seiken Densetsu 3. Just my 2 cents, but keep up the great work man!
Pretty sure some of those glitches are just in the English patch, for sure any text glitches are. Also that first Megami Tensei game isn't part of the series, just a game based on the same liscense by a different company.
I ounce got a glich were when i healed my magic on all my characters (cant remember how) but it healed me and rolled over my limit and double healed my SP. So if my SP was 240. It would say 480/240.... Sure it helped a lot but i was like wtf?
I tried this game on emulator once.. but after watching half of your video i feel charmed by its graphics and system . So i decided to play it. I stop watching your video to avoid spoilers. First 2 week i feel really excited. But suddenly.. i hate this f*** game!! Gosh!! So bored!! So heavy so tedious!! So many encounters, give me a break!! So slow menu!!! Many times i pass of healing my characters as it took so much and bired time!!! So many encounter god dammed!!! ... But i think i was too advanced to quit!.. my god!!! I finished it yesterday... because i wanted to left it behind... it feels like purgatory!!! I Hate it!!!!
I already played SMT 4. I wonder if the writers and designers reflect on their art. Gonna pray a little. Not fond of God slaying for "bonds" of friendship or whatever anime is thrown at me .
Consider playing SMT Nocture. One of the best in the series. There exists an HD remaster as well. Also consider Okami. It's phenomenal. One of the best Zelda style games ever.
