The Shiny Pidgey Saga - Pokemon Silver 

Imagine that there is a hack were the game automatically shiny hunts for you, but that would be considered as cheating for sure.

that's just how shinies work in gen 2 I think

@@Ganobrator Yeah shinies are tied to specific dvs. Every stat has a dv of 10 except attack, which can vary.

Battery doesn't matter in Emerald. Are you doing Run Aways or Soft Resets?

For phasing I believe that might be held by SH_Lucious who went a stupid amount of phases for Bronzor (55%) in BDSP. Hard to think of worse phase hunts than that.

Yeah I think it is. They have identical stats too, same DV range. Gen 2's shiny pool for stats is incredibly small so it's very common for it to happen. Good catch btw, ty for watching :)

The only thing I've ever been able to determine (or strongly at least) is that the RNG is tied to the clock. Myself and a bunch of other shiny hunters phased a lot for a particular target. In some cases, people did a ridiculous and likely improbable amount of phases for something. I would agree there's something not quite right sometimes. According to this video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--x7xuYSb7Lk.html - by leaving the clock as "unset" for time specific hunts, in my case Vulpix during the day, it would likely be causing you to go over the same frames. I think, anyway. Essentially, we leave the clock as "set" and every time we need to change it to restart the hunt, we put in the password, set the time again, save and then reset to begin the hunt. It seems to be the way as I got Vulpix on the 2nd phase after doing this. As for your hunt, I don't know if this is applicable or not but that's what I have. I also got the same 1/8 Attack DV while doing this. I'm currently at 30,000 first phase for Magmar, so who knows if that hunt will be the same as this. Sadly, RNG information is very lacking in Gen 2. People just want Celebi and to never touch it again. Hopefully someone figures it out someday. Good luck on your hunt, hope this has helped somewhat.

Gold and Silver offer a lot of hunts you can do exclusively over Crystal as well as earlier targets. Full odds Magmar is available much earlier in Burned Tower in G/S but it's Mt Silver in Crystal.

Two reasons. First, it's significantly slower. There's only a few scenarios in which Sweet Scent is more optimal such as surfing encounters, places with low encounter rare like Underwater in Hoenn or Three Isle Port in FireRed and LeafGreen. Second, you can't repel trick and do sweet scent at the same time. Sweet Scent is base encounters so Vulpix would have reverted to being a 10% spawn in this particular case.
