Looked into this a bit more and at trial *it was alleged the purse was actually stolen by this kid.* If that's true, the 15 year sentence and second degree murder* plea make _a lot_ more sense. He could've stopped everything if he'd simply given it back. Instead he provided half-assed help to his aunt, while she tortured and killed an innocent person over the course of around 6 hours. *As a direct result of his theft, a completely innocent person was killed.

@@TheVioletBunny What's most important from the police perspective should be to collect enough information for a jury to convict. I know if I was a jury member, I'd be seriously pissed at the cops for having such crappy recordings; enough so it might skew my decision making. I, as a juror wouldn't tolerate this blatant act of sabotage. I would , as a juror, demand the sound be better, or CC'd, and if I couldn't hear a particular word, I'd make them continuously play it back until I actually could make it out myself. This would undoubtedly drive the court crazy, but sometimes it takes a hard lesson for someone to change what they're doing. Perhaps the judge might just insist the next case be recorded correctly. Because something has to be done about this, it can't continue regardless of what the cops want. People have to force the matter in order for it to get fixed, that's how things get done in a bureaucratic democracy.

He’s guilty of accessory but one thing people aren’t understanding is the mentality you develop when you’re raised around criminals. It’s imbued in you like a religion that you do not call the police, they’re the enemy. I could see myself witnessing a murder and being terrified to call anyone at all as a child. It took me a long time to understand how wrong this pattern of thought actually was because I had to reckon with the reality that everyone around me was a bad person or captive to the situation like me to some degree. That isn’t easy for a young adult, yet alone a child.

He would ask a question, but then immediately ask a second, before he gave the suspect time to respond. I kept wishing he would stop interrupting. I began to think there was no real strategy to the questioning; that he would often just ask a question just whenever something came to mind, without listening to the previous answer. Detective questioning the young man needs to stop interrupting. If not then this might get thrown out or not believed by the jury..

100 % , I thought everyone knows to let the suspect talk as much as possible, about anything. All can be used later. This cop should watch some Proper interrogations to learn something.

I was waiting for someone to say this!! It’s driving me INSANE! Let the man talk himself into a corner and then ask questions after he finishes!! I’ve never heard a detective talk with a suspect so much that you can barely tell who’s talking half the time.

And he interrupts with questions that aren’t even critical, and even he admits it at one point when he’s asking where he was sitting in the truck.

@@reganmcneil2074 I'm not sure if he usually questions people because he doesn't seem to follow the best course of just letting the suspect tell their story as you and Darkness suggest...

@@reganmcneil2074 I think he asked that to show another example of when he could have gotten away but chose not to*. If he's sitting in the front, they can say "he could have easily opened the door and left, but he didn't." If he's sitting in the back of the truck, it looks more like they took him against his will.

Wow, this was a non-stop interrogation, from the beginning to the end.
