Wow! Thank you for telling this story. My mother's family came from Denham, Cheapside Lane and had lived there for generations. From at least 1700 to early 1900's. My G grandfather would have been about 8-9yrs old when this happened. Probably played with the children. His father, my G G grandfather, was the Estate carpenter at Denham Court. Such a tragedy and it must have affected the community. When he grew up, my G grandfather joined the Police in London and would have been serving at the time of 'Jack The Ripper'. When my G grandfather was 17, still living in Denham, he went to London, around the time of the Princess Alice paddle boat disaster on The Thames and picked up a piece of the wreckage, which I still have. Between 600 & 700 people died in the sewage polluted water.
I enjoy how you present these various stories. It's interesting and apparent that you take great care. Thank you! Such a tragic story. Ending so many lives in such a brutal fashion is heartbreaking.
I feel bad for the sisters fiance. Imagine falling in love with someone excited to marry them in a few hours/days only to find they and their family had been horrifically slaughtered.
I only found your channel recently, and I must say I love this channel and the presentation, even though the stories are sad, it is always a delight to see you pop up. Thank you for creating such an informative channel.
I always wondered if the killer had committed other murders. With how he butchered the entire household, it seemed far to thought out. Plus the whole killing cats thing seems a bit serial killer like. However I believe back then people saw cats as pests so maybe that detail is irrelevant. Either way a terribly sad story.
No, cats on farms and elsewhere were definitely needed to protect from the actual pests, mice/rats and the like. Not exactly family members like today though there were definitely people keeping them as pets. Feral cats are a different matter. The reason is probably because back then the development of violent murderers and serial killers was not well understood.
Also, there was,and to an extent still is, a bit of a macho aspect to many men not liking cats. Liking cats is often seen as efeminate, even though there are plenty of men-andplanty of the men who worked farms and other manual labour jobs- who liked and were kind to cats.I´ve run into this kind of behaviour in certain young men all my life and find it troubling and even more so, troubling that there isn´t a stronges reaction against it.
He was imprisoned for 6 weeks for shooting the cats, which to me sounds like a more severe punishment than many people get nowadays for animal cruelty.
@@raquellofstedt9713 You're right, the loss of barn cats would be a considerable annoyance for local farmers and others whose property would be damaged by pests like mice.
I hadn't that long ago found Well I never and I absolutely love it! I love history and mistery especially when it is told so well in such a respectful way sometimes a bit of humor when fit and in a ever so soothing voice. so it checks all the boxes of what I enjoy! Thank you!! 💌
Sounds like not much has changed over 150 years - evil people still kill over the pettiest of things, and criminals released from jail reoffend in short order. Sad, what a tragic story. Thank you for the history lesson, always enjoy your videos. Cheers
wherever there are three people one has the potential to kill, one to be the victim and one to be a witness. It is extremely naïve to say that nothing has changed over 150 yrs. Nothing has changed in the entire history of the human race (and I am not talking about the stupid idea that we have only been here 6000 yrs. I am talking several hundred thousand yrs. Man started out as a beast that killed for food or self preservation but eventually turned killing in to an art form. Despite the huge time frame we have been inhabiting this Earth, we have not changed one iota in our basic nature.
150 years?? NO offense but you need a history lesson Luv. World history is incredibly violent. US history is violent. We were FAR more violent people back then as opposed to today, the difference is today the damage can be done to many more people at once/on a wider scale.
Sadly, a great deal has changed. When once there may have been a hundred phycopaths among us, there are now hundreds of thousands. Back then murder was a heinous crime, now it's common and easily tolerated by our justice system. Once pedophiles were dealt with by the locals and given a dirt nap. Now a male pedophile can claim he's now a woman and do his brief stint in a teenage female detention center. Ups down and down is up. Evil is good and good is evil. Humm, where have we read this before? Oh ya, the scriptures. .....
There have always been people like this. It's not just a modern phenomenon, unfortunately. The cat killing thing *screams* psycho-killer to me! My hope is that we continue get better at seeing them for what they are with enough certainty to take official action (ideally therapeutic if caught early enough, if it's even possible to help) to keep others safe.
Unfortunately the only therapeutic action would be to cull them to save others. There is no cure or stopping them. Just as we crave to eat or breath, they crave to kill.
The Australian first family massacre of Alligator Creek in 1911 Agnes Ching, wife of Charles Ching Maud Ching, 17, daughter of Charles Ching Teddy Ching, 10, son of Charles Ching Dolly Ching, 8, daughter of Charles Ching Hugh[a] Ching, 4, son of Charles Ching Winnie Ching, 20 months, daughter of Charles Ching By Charles Silva - in what was a real life horror movie and some were fed to Crocodiles IN a middle of nowhewre country town - not even that a village
psychopathy. Cruelty to animals is an early life child behaviorural 'tell.' Pulling wings and legs of insects, holding magnets in sunlight burning ants. Drowning kittens. All very odd. Anacardium is the first call sycotic remedy homoeopathic for those exact children. Now they call such a child as 'being on the spectrum'. Good luck with that.
I always love how it was so easy to get away with murder back then, no forensics and like this one no detectives in the area, and yet they still get caught. You'd think it'd be obvious to not wear the clothes of someone you just murdered, let alone wear it to the trial!
I watched a video earlier today where a man was captured on video in the act of stealing. He wore the same distinctive shirt the next day in court and was arrested.
He was probably arrogant to believe he would never be caught, having no witnesses to his evil crimes. If it was not for one witness turning him in,he may well have got away with it.
No doubt he threw the bloodstained clothes he had worn away, so had to wear the clothes he stole, many people only had the clothes they stood up in, no spares in a wardrobe.
To be fair, only about 50% of murders in the US get solved, even today. True crime shows and shows like CSI make out as if it’s almost impossible to get away with murder these days, but if you watch interviews with seasoned detectives, they paint a different story. The biggest reason most murder cases today get solved is because the murders are easy to solve, and usually the killer is somebody close to the victim,...but stranger killings are still very difficult to solve even today. Plus, if there’s no body, then nobody is even thinking about a murder. Israel Keyes is a perfect example of the kind of modern serial killer operating today, the kind that doesn’t leave bodies laying around, the kind that doesn’t want to draw attention to himself, and sadly, the victims of these killers often just ends up on a missing persons lists, and stay there forever.
These family annihilation murders, though extremely rare, were not unknown in Victorian times. I have read of cases in the U.S., Australia, and Germany.
This is such great content. Keeping it right on the line so It's educational but not boring, Entertaining but not embellished, and respectful, and not withholding important information because of the macabre nature of some of the stories. And of course the host is a great storyteller 😉 This channel will hit a million (and higher) in no time.
Yep, Simon whistler moves to scotland for the next 25 years, then travels back in time to create another youtube channel, and does a terrific job!😉 (Not my idea. Saw a similar joke on reddit, and it rang true... cant remember op's name.)
A tragic tale. The poor family. Slaughtered over a few shillings. I was wondering why they neglected to list the Grandmother's name and age on the headstone along with the rest of the family? She is mentioned in the text, but not below with the names and ages of the others. Odd...
The first family massacre I heared about was Hinterkaifeck in Germany. And I thought that it was such a rare crime. But this obviously happens more often and I am stunned. You presentation is flawless as always. Thanks for all the effort and research you put into this.
Denham looks like such a peaceful and idyllic place that it's hard to believe something so gruesome could happen there. The things mankind can do are truly unimaginable sometimes.
It is still a very quaint village despite how built up the area around it is. I have friends who live there . I myself only live a few miles away in Iver Heath.
Thank you for the, once again, well researched and excellently delivered account. I enjoy your videos so much. Not because they’re about sad cases in history, but rather cases I would never know about otherwise. And this story is so tragic. All those people murdered over a little bit of money. 😔
I absolutely love your style, sir. You look very dapper without being pretentious. I love the way you present these fascinating stories. Keep up the great work!
Aren't you a cutie patootie love the commentary, Los Angeles California says hello and will there be more I guess I have to subscribe and see. ✨✨👑✨✨🏆🏆🏆😎
This is a heartbreaking story, and you did an excellent job of laying out the details, including the effect on the community. In a small village where everyone knows everyone, this was particularly devastating. Thank you for telling about these victims with the compassion and respect they deserve. Blessings to you.
Applause! That was a wonderful production. Just the right amount of information. Even today if an inmate told the police that a fellow prisoner may kill someone all the police could do is warn them. Nice sketching's too. I subscribed.
I've been watching true crime and history videos on RU-vid for a few years now. Having depression, I lost interest entirely in both subjects until I found your channel. Thank you for what you do.
I to have M.D.D. Once had great interest in Crime and History, but lost interest entirely It's rare to find a channel nowadays that ignites those fires like he can
His videos are great but I don’t think RU-vid is the best place for true crime. Maybe it’s because I’m a podcast addict lol, but I’m often annoyed by RU-vid true crime simply because it’s impossible to get the full details of any murder case in a 20 minute video, and that’s where I feel RU-vid often falls short. Too many youtubers butcher crime cases simply by trying to fit the details into short videos. Personally I think Podcasts are the best platform for true crime just because they can devote an hour or more to a case, and you get a much better and fuller picture that way. That being said, I do like this channel, and the creator is enjoyable and easy to like
I'm very happy that the algorithm gods suggested this channel, I've seen surprised by the quality of the content! Subscribed, liked, binge watched! Love from West London
Love your vids. Is your accent mixed? I swear I keep hearing Scottish for a split second here and there, then suddenly you're English again, lol. I wonder if I sound like that myself with living in England and having had a Scottish dad.
Some people are really giving the gift of how to speak. You bring the stories to life, and help me to identify with the sorrow others must’ve felt at the time. Thank you.
Just wanted to say that I really enjoy your presentation! You are a great storyteller and it's nice and easy on the ears, despite the darkness of the tale.
I appreciate your efforts to compile all the photos and visuals! I also like how your not sensational like other channels. You don’t need loud music or over the top presentation to create fascinating videos. Thank you!
I always like how you present this cases and take the extra step to visit those important places today. Plus the amount of drip when you out it’s unmatched
After listening and learning about this tragic story it reminds me of one that my grandmother told me about many years ago which was called the Llangiby murders in Monmouthshire of the Watkins family in 1876 which was carried out by a 21 year old Spanish recently released convict who was caught and eventually hanged . There is no trace of the murder cottage anymore as it was pulled down a few years after the family had been murdered.
Thank you Paul for all your hard work and being such a wonderful story teller. ❤️ Alright then, have an awesome day, see you next time for "Well, I Never". 🤗
I have only recently come across your channel and am thoroughly enjoying these incredibly sad, yet intriguing stories. Your narration, personal and story presentation and the facts you bring forth make it impossible for me to stop watching until I have completely absorbed each story👌Many thanks to you for the work you do, I am quite addicted 😋
You do such a great job presenting the stories you find and this story is no exception. Such a sad story and you present it wonderful way giving us the facts while honoring the victims of the crime or deceased of an accident or tragedy you present.
Been busy doing housework this morning. Sit down for a lunchbreak and see Well I Never's uploaded... YAY! Might just extend my lunch a little bit... lol
My last name used to be Denham. I had it changed to distance myself from the abusive family it was shared with. A little haunting to know it's also the name of a deadly massacre.
So, I guess the studies that have linked animal cruelty in youth and later committing murder can go back into past centuries. Jones seems like a classic case for this. This tragedy is only made worse in that poor Francis only lived to 18. Emmanuel Marshall’s family line literally ended when his surviving son died. And his sister’s never began. How awful for her fiancé.
I like your English pronunciation. For me it’s the English spoken by an educated man from the countryside. Thank you for the insights in English small history. Greetings from Huns country ;-) (Germany) 555
I know real Scottish speaking persons. At the beginning … A new foreign language But here in Germany there are dialects 100 km near Frankfurt. I only understand 10 percent. Even I’m a native German speaker. Sometimes it sounds like an old English dialect
Love the passion that goes into these video's and seeing the presentation grow so well over time! the in the field scenes too! I enjoy learning about this kind of historical bits. Keep up the amazing work and thank you for it all!
This channel is quickly becoming one of my favorite ones on RU-vid. I’m probably about twenty mealtimes into watching W,IN every time I eat, consecutively! Though not all at once 😉 Also, can we just all appreciate that Erik Satie’s famous Gnossienne no. 1 is often used for many of the episodes on here? Brilliant work that has the production value of big-time networks. Please continue your art of chronicling terrible events throughout history!
Murdered an entire family?? And in such a cruel way,..He must’ve murdered before, how could anyone do this..they were just living their lives peacefully, doing their duties. And the lady who was about to get married!😭 it was a joyful time in their lives..and this one person takes it all away..I totally believe that some people are possessed. A person with a conscience could never.
Greetings from Australia - Could you please do one about the Australian first family massacre of Alligator Creek in 1911? Agnes Ching, wife of Charles Ching Maud Ching, 17, daughter of Charles Ching Teddy Ching, 10, son of Charles Ching Dolly Ching, 8, daughter of Charles Ching Hugh[a] Ching, 4, son of Charles Ching Winnie Ching, 20 months, daughter of Charles Ching By Charles Silva - in what was a real life horror movie and some were fed to Crocodiles
I wish I could say "Well, I never.." about this one... but, sadly, such crimes are not so uncommon. When society values life so litte we cannot expect that every individual will value life.
This story is so sad, I hope the victims have all found peace, brilliantly presented, your voice and demeanour is perfect, well done with this channel, looking forward to more of your videos.💚
This channel is so ridiculously amazing. I foresee that you’ll have well over a million subscribers soon. All the videos are well made, edited professionally, and perfectly presented with empathy to the victims of the tragedy and their families. Absolutely tragic story but again beautifully and empathetically done. Greeting from Texas, USA!
You have a very good speaking voice, and clear diction. No uhms or ahs, reminds me of how we were trained in year 6 by our teacher to not add in words or sounds when speaking. Definitely makes for easy to listen to.
Many thanks sir for your clear and succinct presentation. The stroll through the exact locations, the newspaper art and lack of padding are well appreciated. You have a gift to which I am willing and happy subscriber. Cheers from the U.S.A.
Watched and Enjoyed your Historical Videos. Now a Subscriber as of Today. I, have Solders (Drummer), Farm Labourers, and Blacksmiths in my Ancestry Well, I Never Your narration, including the news of the day is Most Intriguing
Going for a roadtrip through the south east this year, maybe i can visit the memorial! Really enjoyed the video, keep it up. Greeting From The Netherlands.
