There is a thing and I think we can call it a tradition done at Nigerian weddings that is illegal and if the government takes action, more than half of the population will be found guilty.
The Central Bank of Nigeria Act
2007 (As amended) stipulates that "spraying of, dancing or matching on the naira or any note issued by the bank during social occasions or otherwise howsoever shall constitute an abuse and defacing of the naira or such note and shall be punishable under the law by fines or imprisonment or both"
For those who are not familiar with the money-spraying tradition. It's an act of gifting. A cash gift but just one publicly in an entertaining matter.
At the beginning of 2023, there was a cash challenge in Nigeria. Naira notes were unavailable and Nigerians did get creative. Customized wedding currency notes were created.
These were spotted at a few weddings. This is how it works, guests or individuals interested in spraying had to make payment to a verified account and they were given customized wedding notes for spraying.
