You said some things that hit home with me. I started by praying 3, 4, 5, 6, even more times a day and getting out of bed during the night to pray on my knees for an hour or 2. Now... Maybe a 1/2 hour upon getting out of bed and getting in bed - that's all. I needed to hear that: a disciple is one who applies discipline to themselves daily, without the discipline of JESUS in ones life they cannot be HIS disciple.
