The Shortest Disused Railway Tunnel on the Island? The Isle of Wight Railways
The Ryde to Newport Railway opened in 1875 and lasted right through until closure in 1966.
There were a few stations along this route and many have been kept alive on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway and Heritage Centre.
At the Western most point of the line on the appriach to Newport there is an 80 yard Tunnel.
Possibly the shortest on the Isle of Wight? Maybe.... Maybe not.
Join me as i follow a short section of this route and take a look inside the Newport Fairlee Road Railway Tunnel and what changes have occured since closure in 1966.
