MD is single handedly responsible for the 9 tanks in my house. There was 1 before I started watching this channel. One day, I'll head to the UK and I will bee-line straight to Maidenhead Aquatics (I hope yall ship to the US, if not get crackin) simply to spend my hard earned dollars on these lovely people.

Those owls remind me of totem poles. They actually look better with the epoxy coating. I've always wondered what your local water parameters are because all your plants are thriving. You always do a great job with your aquarium setups.

I'm SO GLAD someone on the internet has documented using epoxy to coat their aquarium decor!! I was researching a few weeks ago about coating the painted decor in my axolotl tank, and could barely find any information on it. I ended up winging it and painting on some food-safe epoxy, which has worked so well. Brilliant job!

I really like how this build turned out. The owls remind me of the heads from Easter Island in an interesting way. I feel like multi color shrimp were a wonderful edition to this build as well.

Did anyone think Easter Island? Maybe Owlster Isle is appropriate for this one. Thanks for the great videos and tips!

I got my first planted tank started yesterday. I'm literally on the way to the fish store right now to buy more plants. I'm going to get some of the API water clarifier because my water still just a little cloudy. All my readings are good. Hopefully I'll go back later today to get my first batch of fish and shrimp. Thank you so much m d for giving me the courage to start a planted tank. I've been watching aquascaping for three years and felt like it was out of my reach. But you showing me I could do low-tech tanks and showing that even you make mistakes and you can just redo it. Game changer!!! My birthday is March 11th, but my fiance bought me this tank is an early birthday present and said, just do it. Thank you so much MD for sharing. 🤗🙂😃☺️

Shrimpies are so cute! I love that you do theme tanks around them. In my honest opinion, they are the only pet you can keep in a small tank at a desk job and still enjoy them 😊

I really like the look of the shrimp tank. I think it's the first time I've seen you use decor that isnt wood and rocks. But the stone statue look is cool. All those gorgeous colorful shrimp! Love seeing your family at your studio. Your kids are adorable!

Great video. You and Fish Shop Matt NEED to do a weekly podcast. You could do it from a restaurant/pub and call the podcast "Fish & Chips." You could answer viewer emails and comments and talk about all the latest in the fish keeping world.

I’d be excited to see themed (small) tanks that Gracie and/or the other kids each design!! Wouldn’t quite be the same vibe as MDs tanks but maybe a bit of fun and possibly something to go on some of the lower shelves of the racks too!!

I love you did something like this. My Mrs "made me" do a tank with a sunken boat thing and some treasure chests - hardly an aquascape - but I went with it and did the best job I could and it turned out quite cool

MD - my first post - I've been watching your videos NON-STOP for a couple months now! I've gotten the fish-bug pretty hard because of you!! Thanks for that. LOL And well done on the new studio - you have made quite career of this!!! How envious many people must be that you are prosperous doing what you love! I know I am! LOL... I've created 2 solid small (5 and 10gallon) eco/aqua-scapes based on what I learned from you. They are doing GREAT. I have 4 more tanks and will be doing the same in those. One of them will be a shrimp tank. I bought some dragon-stone, as per one of your videos. It's really cool looking and can't wait to build that out! My actual question is about shrimp and is simple... well, the question is simple, but the answer might not be!! I see that you put all kinds of colorful shrimp together and I'm wondering how you choose which genus to mix, or if you even care. I've started research about how to choose, and would prefer not to end up with all brown/gray boring shrimp babies! I saw you had juveniles that seemed true to color. Any guidance would be deeply appreciated. Thank you and keep up the great work. Can't wait to see where you branch off to in the future.

I watch all these videos! The beta tank is probably my favorite, but I love the little owl setup. I've thought some like, psuedo- Aztec statues would be neat. Like a flooded ruins. I want that water treatment for the tap water that I use for myself haha

It is funny, when you first placed the owls in, I thought to myself, "no they should be the other way." Then you changed your mind and placed them the other way. I am a graphic designer and I feel they look better this way. Had the tank been on the right side of the rack, they would look better the other way. Looks good! MZ

That’s really cool! I‘m soon gonna remake the tank my parents have and I think using these Ikea owls (or similar decorative statues) is a pretty cool idea that I could incorporate in that. Altough I‘m probably gonna include some mosses or plants that grow on the statues to give it more of a „forgotten jungle temple“-vibe.

love those statues… I was really dreading them going in so dark once you put the resin on, but this tank turned out incredible

The owls look amazing! FYI, people who make hypertufa (cement, peatmoss or coir, and sand mix, usualy), or just cement garden pots, will soak the pots in water, changing it periodically, to leach out the harmful chemicals, before they plant their plants in them, or use them as birdbaths, as ponds etc. Just a thought, if you ever want to use a cement decoration again. Eliminating the use/expence of epoxy. Might be a good experiment for you some time, to see how well soaking them removes chemicals, and stops the ph level change? Anyhow, the owls made me think of Stonehenge! That might be an awesome build too! Or Easter island! Ohh..a new series! :)

I actually do resin as a hobby - never thought of coating aquarium decor. Have had a few pieces I love that lost their cheapass paint jobs in the water. I tried the "waterproof" (safe for aquarium use) plastic spray, but it falls off after a few months in the water. I enjoy some of the unrealistic but fun decor pieces and will def be using resin to coat them in the future.

Running on 3 and a half hours of sleep but you know I’m gonna watch this now.

Instead of resin for things like this, i use clear liquid pond sealer. Works great & no bubbles ❤️🇦🇺

As said below, "Easter Island" . That would be a good name for the scape.

It looked like some bubbles might have dried In the epoxy. Not sure if it just looked that way on camera but you can use your heat gun or a torch to pop the bubbles while the epoxy is still wet.
