Well 3 out of 4 dynasty ( including jin dymasty) in this era finally succumb to "i need to ask my fortune teller about my military strategy". Does wei also uses fortune teller like the 3 other dynasty?

"Hey you remember how our previous strategy relied on having only a couple of well defended postions to harrass the enemy from due to our manpower worries? What if, and follow me on this, we spread our troops across many, many fortified postions?" Thanks for the video.

I think what has created this grand disadvantage to Shu Han in terms of strategy,was not the more agressive aproach they had chosen,but rather that the Wei Forces in a perspective of the five fundamentals points was more prepared for the campaign because: 1.Sima Zhao not only had absolute power and control all over the political and military sections of the Wei dynasty but also huge base of supporters in the most important positions on the military frontiers and a internal political stability without any risk of opposition while Liu Shan was a ruler that even having a stable court and loyalt of the most part of army of Shu Han he didn't a strong dominance over the kingdom that could unite the groups in his reign. 2.Wei under the control of the Sima Clan after the third rebellion of Huainan and the killing of the emperor Cao Mao had a long time to focus in reorganize and strengthen the resources of the kingdom while Shu Han not only had suffered heavy losses with the last three failured northern campaigns but was they were also internally divided meaning that the possibilities of coordinated actions between the court and the army in the north would be very limited and not very trustworthy due to the political rivalries between them. 3.The main generals entrusted with the pratical execution of the campaign in the Wei side(Deng Ai,Zhong Hui,Zhuge Xu)were in unity and very clear about the movements and objectives each of them had fulfil in this campaign leading to a better focus and discipline in their marchs while on the Shu Side(Jiang Wei,Jiang Qing,Wang Han)was not given the reinforcements and man power necessary to prepare a coordinated defense and strategy against the full scale of Wei invasion,which in turn,had lead to several fronts of the northern army fighting in a dispersive manner without a firm chain of comunication and support that could have affected their performances during the invasion. 4.The Wei forces intended to the conquest of Shu Han to be fast as the wind where they will only have the purpose of destroying and fighting the key generals and conquering the key positions to reach the capital or force a surrender from the emperor quickly as possible,so they were not eager to waste valuable time and resources fighting and attacking all Shu Han positions in Hanzhong,While the lack of comunication and disorganized of the Shu Han defense was unable to adapt to this unexpected chance of strategy of the Wei's army leading to the tactic of choking and pursuing them in Hanzhong to be unable to be used or changed. 5.And last and more important all the Wei generals and Sima Zhao was totally ready to gamble everthing to this conquest meaning they will not bend to any obstacle in their because they know this the perfect opportunity to realize one of the most glorious deeds of the Wei's history:Destroying his long-time rival kingdom of Shu Han,so they would use every chance to win and make a name for themselves while in the of Shu Han aside from figures like Jiang Wei,Zhang Yi,Liao Hua e various other officers and generals of Shu han the majority of the Kingdom especially in the local elites of yi province was not so resolute to risk their lives and names for braveness and courage.

I've got some questions. 1. Was this defense used by future regimes centered on the land of Shu? Specifically Cheng-Han and Qiao Shu. I'm reading Huan Wen and Liu Yu's rises respectively. 2. How much power did Liu Shan truly hold? It seems the imperial power did hold a lot of weight in Shu, it's just that Liu Shan didn't exercise it as much. Is that really it? He held power but didn't use it much?
@SeriousTrivia
@SeriousTrivia Месяц назад
1. I don't know how much you know about the histories of these other Shu based regimes aside from the fact that they are Shu based. For example in the case of Cheng Han, their main enemy as the Eastern Jin Dynasty which occupied the lands of the South, so they were being attack from the Jing Province to the east. Therefore, your question is not exactly relevant. This is pretty much the same situation with Qiao Shu with the exception that Qiao Shu was an even shorter lived and barely well established Kingdom. 2. This really depends on your definition of Imperial Power. In a time period without mass communication devices that we are so familiar with today. Do you define Imperial Power as the Emperor always get what he wants or do you define it as the Emperor have a firm control over the chain of administrative command. In Liu Shan's case, he probably got everything he wanted as no one said no to him, but what he wanted probably wasn't the detailed day to day control of the entire Kingdom, so why would he need firm control of the entire chain of administration. If he trusted key officials (that included his head eunuch Huang Hao) to do their jobs, he doesn't want to concern himself with the details. Like not many Emperor actually micro-managed. With the level of constrain in terms of communications, the Emperor basically should just ensure that the control of the army is relatively in his hands or the hands of people he trust. This alone can secure his own position as Emperor. Everything else is extra on top. Would you care about what the salt tax is set at? Are you qualified to know things like how much to set the tariff? That is why you have officials. And only when the treasury run dry or there are major issues, do you need to start questioning the official. You the Emperor, not the slave that keeps the Kingdom running.

Do you think Jiang Wei’s strategy of want to lure enemies in so that he may destroy like 100k enemies in one fell swoop the main reason for Shu’s downfall in that year? I feel that his strategy could work but it is a strategy with very high risk and little to no tolerance of mistakes or accidents, and he was not Zhuge Liang. Thoughts? (If you know Chinese and use bilibili, then I recommend the video of one called “渤海小吏”, his video on the demise of Shu was very much Jiang Wei bashing, but he seems got some solid point. Basically his view was that Jiang Wei screwed up big time and was very much responsible for Shu’s demise even if Deng Ai pulled off something impossible was as important

From my pov as someone need more education in this stuff. Short answer and a bit spoiler Despite every setback, despite almost anything that happened to Hanzong. Jiang Wei actually technically succeded. He manage to stall Wei's army that they almost preparing to retreat. The problem is someone with Initial D come with some unexpected move and crush every hope left.

Its sad that Shu han repeat the same mistake as Han empire , powerful Eunuchs , and Excluding skilled comanders , jiang wei did his best (One of the most important reasons I've waited for this series is wanting to know his fate) ,and the work of liu bei life Destroyed by liu shan .

The main prelude factor to this failure is Jiang Wei 11 campaigns into Wei. Bruh just brought this to himself.

I personally don’t agree with that. You can’t lump all the attempts together. Jiang Wei’s northern expeditions enjoyed success especially around the middle but once the Wei side put more resources out west with assignments of generals like Chen Tai and Deng Ai. Things just turned poorly for Jiang Wei. You also don’t win wars by not fighting like if you argue that your troops will remain combat ready over the course of 30-40 years by not fighting and be ready to defend against every attack. That is never going to work.

well I don't believe in cartoon villains as much as i used to make him out to be but so far I see why Huang Hao rejected reinforcements due to previous big loss, but Xiahou Ba's info on the Top Generals Rising Stars should be the absolute authority on the situation, you said in the past that shu did not know anything about the few years of sima coups going on in Wei so did that mean Shu had a crappy Spy Network? or a very slow one? _ I would had stuck with the defensive plan though, the defenses that worked for years were laid out by Zhuge Liang and Wei Yan so it was there for a reason, I'd rather not do big invasions then lose land trying, Deng Ai and Zhong Hui were to fierce for the aging Jiang Wei aside from him and Zhang Yi who else were left other then the Ancient Liao Hua had the experience to launch huge offensives against equal or surpassing talents
