A pro has good instincts on whether their opponent has a big hand, so Ivey knew to bet big and force him to pay it off. Plus you don't usually call a 2x pot bet with air.
Newbie here so sorry if this is a stupid question but does Someone mind explaining. To me Mader has tip Queen's, Ivey has trip 4's. If Mader calls he wins the pot no? Or is it that Phil is so intimidating that he makes guys fold who have the win which is the impressive part?
That's a really tough fold. I think Ivey knew what Mader had and Mader knew that Ivey knew, and that's why he was able to find it. I certainly wouldn't have been able to, and neither would most of the people in the comments calling it an easy fold
Took me a second there to figure out what happened, I thought he should win cause he has 3 queens forgetting that other guy has a full house. For some reason I thought they both had full houses
Hell no, while it’s not the most connected board ever, there’s a flush out there and he’s behind AQ too. This is a difficult fold for a nit maybe, but any professional is finding a fold
An Asian female player layed down Queens full of Aces to Aces full of Queens. He hit his set of Aces on the river she bet he raised her all in and she folded the 2nd nuts.
Disagree you could make an argument it makes folding easier. He was probably aware that he was playing like he had a Queen given … he had a queen … so that river is a tough one for Ivey to bluff into so his range becomes more value heavy
It's a good fold nowhere near the best fold ever tho. I think if the Q of clubs came on the river instead of Diamond and he folded it would of been better.
Does anybody remember when Phil Ivey bluffed and made someone fold 4 Kings when there was a Royal flush was on the board? If not then I must have slipped through a parallel Universe. I remember watching that video on YTube but now I can't find the video anywhere.
The flush is a treat, full house is a threat. You need the absolute nuts to call with pot sized bets. Phil calculated the proper admission fee for Mader to see the cards.
Intuition saved him nice lay down. I prefer this interaction to the guy who vents to an invisible honey and says they want to give me their money after losing his money to them. Very annoying
It is a crazy fold, but it made sense. If you don’t let your ego get in the way and if you really analyze the hand, you can talk yourself into folding that

Cant believe I am correctly attacking iveys play. There were no draws out there. His chec raise showed too much strength He can only have two pairs a set or a bluff. The turn if he checks the opponent can now put him on a bluff in the flop so Ivey should of then checked th turn. Now when the river is a queen. Ivey’s all in would have to get called because it would apear more like a bluff.
Pretty sure Phil knew exactly what he had… he knows the guys calling with top pair and probably made trips on 5th street, hence the huge all in bet lol or he’s really hoping the dude someone backed into a flush but it’s more trips than flush here

Tough fold but you gotta put Ivey on a set mine with all his post flop actions and the board pairing is obv worse news for em and it kinda makes it a harder fold with it being a Q but I actually think if a dif card paired the board or it was a brick he wouldn't have folded. Ivey def had him pegged with top pair so him betting like that when the river came showed a lot of strength. Iveys not gonna bluff him knowing he's got top set on the river. And Iveys range def isn't gonna have 47, Q4, Q7 he wouldn't have played that shit so def gotta lay that down. Anyone else idk, but you f around with Phil Ivey you gonna find out lol
Not the sickest. I seen a female poker player lay down a full house. The table was surprised she laid it down. The guy showed his hand and she was beat. She made an amazing lay down.
It's not a sick fold because he can be beat with AQ, flush or boat. The only thing he is beating are trips with a weaker kicker and two pair...which doesn't make sense for an All-In river bet. He's justs a good poker player, but it isn't that hard of a hand to fold.
I don’t get why you would fold here. Are you really putting Ivey on a river flush over your top set? What other hand do you think he has that beats you here? AQ? And flush? That’s it?
