Really wished they kept some IO or at least side by side bus socket, so you could use their relay and IO modules. This looks to have everything come through he front via arduino shields.

I had a PLC in mind first when I first looked at it. This is not a controller, it's something else. Much more a gateway.

Great!! I love this idea. How do you get to add IO on this module?

Thank you for a very informative video. I have a question regarding CE-approval, - will the approval still be valid if a shield is added in the front or the wifi-board with antennas is added at the rear?

All approvals typically have constraints arround them and also consider use. If you make a board to add to the UNO header on the IOT2020 then it may no longer meet CE approval as originally published for the product and you may need to re-certify the new build if your planning on re-selling the complete product. If you're using it for yourself then no worries (Except that in many environments it would still be expected that you follow wiring codes and other legislations which are beyond the scope of my knowledge doe to regional differences etc). Even buying CE approved products to add to another CE approved product does not mean the end product is still CE approved. it again may need re-certifying. CE approval btw is a certification that can be self declared but check with local laws and guidelines. Other certifications may require submission to a LAB (UL for example). again, if the additions are for your own use and you follow common sense / local regs your good. Siemens are however designing add ons for the IOT2000 (2020 and 2040) that do retain certification when used. am currently sworn to secrecy but they will be appearing soon and you will like the option :). that's all I can say for now. except I will be one of the first in the world to show it being used......

Then again, it looks like Siemens have made some info public support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/109745791/delivery-release-for-the-io-shield-for-the-industrial-iot-gateway-simatic-iot2000?dti=0&pnid=24683&lc=en-US support.industry.siemens.com/cs/products?mfn=ps&pnid=24683&lc=en-US

Does anybody know the name or partnumber of power supply plug (with the screws) and the counterpart (mounted on the board)? Thanks in advance!

This is a Siemens version of the Intel Galileo Gen 2 board. Wondering why Simens choose the Galileo and not the Beaglebone.

That's a very good question, and one I dont have an answer to, Siemens, If you're reading this, perhaps you would like to answer ??. I have a meeting with them later this week, Ill try and remember to ask them

Hello Peter, thanks for your videos!! I''m trying to install InfluxDB on IoT2040, have you tried install it before? I want to use an No-Sql DB, but i need some help... can you guide me?
@TheBreadboardca
@TheBreadboardca 7 лет назад
I have never tried that, I have only tried SQLite3, but under Linux there is a noSQL version from what I understand, it may install, try searching for the Galileo II to see if you can find it, if there is one, the package should also install on the IOT2000

Hello, I bought the USB to TTL converter you suggest me to buy in an other video. I currently try to connect with the IOT and I get weird character when the IOT boot. The plug is correctly insert since the pin 1 (gnd) is on the right side. I noticed you have separate the pins from the connector. You have: Pin 1: Black (GND) Pin 4: Red (TXD) Pin 5: Green (RXD) I looked in the cable manual and here is the pin assigment: 6 Pin Header Pin Assignment Pin 1: Black (GND) Pin 2: Brown (CTS) Pin 3: Red (VCC) Pin 4: Orange (TXD) Pin 5: Yellow (RXD) Pin 6: Green (RTS) So that fits with the "SIMATIC IOT2020 - Create SD Card Boot Image and Configure Network" video. Do I have to change the connection of my connector? (I suppose I am OK) I have to select "Serial" in PuTTY, right? What is the default baudrate and what are the parameter you select in PuTTY? Thank you very much for your support. Have a good day!

I just happened to have the one I was using already, the one listed was the recommendation from Siemens and should work. My Serial Putty Settings are as follows 115200 Baud 8 Data 1 Stop No Parity Xon Xoff flow control. I do have one of those 6 pin versions on the way and will let you know if there is an issue The pinout of the connector is as follows (RTS and CTS are not used normally) IOT2020 FTDI Cable GND GND RTS CTS N/C VCC RX TX TX RX CTS RTS Note the crossover on the RX, TX and CTS, RTS lines, this of course is normal. I think the RS Part number is 429-307, description FTDI Chip, 3.3 V TTL USB to UART Cable, TTL-232R-3V3 The Datasheet for it can be found here :- docs-europe.electrocomponents.com/webdocs/139d/0900766b8139de64.pdf

Sorry for the late answer. I bought it on Amazon: www.amazon.com/GearMo-Header-TTL-232R-3V3-Windows-Support/dp/B004LBXO2A It works perfectly since I changed the baudrate. Thank you very much!

Industrial Case, 9-30 odd V operation, designed to operate 24x7, certified for Industrial use (CE, UL and others) ?

Peter what industriual standard. Its I thinks bull shit..
@TheBreadboardca
@TheBreadboardca 8 лет назад
Operates on a 9-36V DC supply DIN Rail mounting Standard Industrial style enclosure Motherboard designed for industrial 24/7 use 0 - 50 deg C operating range (Yes not the widest range but good enough for most installations ) What part makes you think it is not industrial capable ?, it is every bit as quality as other Siemens PLC controllers and devices and is built to the same standard as the IoT2040 ? which is sold directly by Siemens for industry use. The 2020 is an educational build, but still built to the same exacting standards
